As the game begins, you're starting your first year at Hogwarts. Explore the school and its grounds, gather items for potions, cast spells, and take on a range of adversaries in turn-based wizard challenges. Solve action-oriented puzzles with Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, and a host of unforgettable characters from the J.K. Rowling book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone--the book that started it all.
Colorful graphics render Harry's enchanted world in spirited detail, making the journey from Privet Drive to Diagon Alley and the Gringotts, then onto Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest, all the more fun. You can also trade and collect famous wizard cards to unlock rewards and increase Harry's skills. You can trade cards with a friend using a Game Link cable. And as you garner experience points for Harry, you can upgrade spells and improve Harry's strength so he can take on new opponents.

A Mix of Basketball, Football & hockey on a Broom!Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is also unique because it is the first Harry Potter game with a Multiplayer option. This is one of the funnest parts about this game. You can battle a freind and crush him. Imagine you playign the Multiplayer Madden 2004, NBA LIVE, and NHL Hockey all rolled into one, in the Air...Pretty Cool, huh?
This game is unlike any sports games ever made, and that's why it will never be topped. Any sports fan, no matter if you like Harry potter or not, will love this game, it's just like a mix of basketball, football and hockey on a broomstick.
Overview:
Fun-13/10, the multiplayer really gives it an excellent edge.
Gameplay- 11/10 Nice gameplay, and cool to do awesome moves.
Graphics- 10/10 just like watching the Harry Potter Movies
Difficulty-11/10 Starts of Boring when you're playing the Hogwarts teams, but get's progressively harder.
Overall- 45/40, AMAZING game.
Amazing game, amazingly fun..Buy this great game, there is no sports game comparable to this game...it is very fun, not to metion difficult. BUY THIS GAME!!!

Good enough, but a little disappointing...Before I get negative, I'll mention the high points of this gaming experience. First, the graphics are very nice. Harry's environments are detailed, the character models look authentic, and the spells Harry performs treat your eyes. Second, the game controls well. It pretty much plays like the 3D Zelda titles from the N64 and Gamecube; you assign spells and items to various buttons and use them, jump automatically when you reach a ledge, have an "action" button that lets you talk to people or grab things and all that other stuff. Movement using the analog stick is very fluid, as well; Harry will move in whatever direction you command without any trouble. Also, the game has many enjoyable mini-games, like Gnome-Throwing and Quidditch. In addition, when you obtain Harry's broom, you can fly all over the Hogwarts campus, something that I really enjoyed doing.
Now for the problems with this game. The first problem is that the load times are long and frequent. I thought when we left the 32-bit era, long load times would be a thing of the past. Unfortunately not, although this isn't the only game on the Xbox to suffer from this problem. Second, are the sound effects, voice, and music. To be fair, the audio in Chamber Of Secrets is good, so why am I complaining? EA didn't recruit any of the actors from the film to do voices in the game, and they didn't even get the John Williams score from the movie. The impersonators are good and the music is nice but I don't understand why they didn't go for authenticity on the audio front. This is very bewildering knowing that EA is one of largest and most profitable gaming companies around. Also knowing that EA got the original actors and score for "Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" (PS2, Gamecube, Xbox) also from them, I'm wondering what was their excuse was with Mr. Potter. In my mind, there's no excuse for the omission.
Next, the camera has some problems. At certain times in the game, you have to sneak around without being detected, like in "Metal Gear Solid 2." During these times, you have to put your back to the wall. The camera zooms in too close to Harry, not allowing you to see the various guards you need to get through the area. Furthermore, the game doesn't have a first person looking feature that so many other 3D adventure titles have, so it's difficult to see where the guards are. Be prepared to be caught and have many house points taken before you successfully pass.
An additional problem has to do with the game's money currency. You have to collect Every Flavor Beans to buy things from Fred and George Weasley's shop, but whenever you're hit by an enemy like a flying book, you loose the beans you are holding (oh, by the way, I don't remember flying books attacking Hogwarts students in the books or movies). It's just like losing all your rings when you get hit in a Sonic The Hedgehog game, and in this case, that's not a good thing. Just like Sonic, you only have a limited time to pick up the beans you lost, although here, it's even shorter. So if you can't get them in time, you're out by a couple beans. This made me really mad, particularly when I had enough to buy a useful item only to lose them on the way back to Gryffindor Tower, not to mention how far I had to travel and/or how hard it was to find these things in the first place. My last problem, though, is that the game gives no indication of what to do in some sections, and thus, quickly translates into frustration.
Overall, Harry is a decent game, but various problems drag the experience down a little. It's not a bad game, and it's better than most of the licensed junk out there. At least rent this game, though; you may like it a little more than I did.
good but room for improvementPros:
-good graphics
-fun game
-you can play flying and gnome mini-games
-at the end of the day you can roam the Hogwarts halls as you wish
-lots of things to accomplish
Cons:
-way to short
-kinda easy
-bad quidditch impression
-you cant save it when your in the middle of something, you have to go to a certain spot and save it

H.P. is worth a tryThe ghosts are also really annoying, as are the prefects you have to sneak past all the time (Hey, Harry owns an Invisibility Cloak, remember?!?! What happened to that?)
On the plus side, it is very pretty and detailed, and the voices are good. The addition of short scenes here and there will help those who are unfamiliar with the storyline (although it got a bit boring since I've read the book four times!). Flying is really fun, as is just exploring Hogwarts on your own, and the spells are neat too.
It would've been a better game if E.A. had taken a leaf out of Naughty Dog's book and made Harry easier to control (I guess that gets tricky with all those spells and items he can carry) and given him his Invisibility Cloak!!! Lousy prefects! All in all, this game is quite worth a try, but you may need to check out one of the online walkthroughs for some hints if you get stuck.
Dare to Return to Hogwarts???NOTE: This may give part of the game away!!!
Brittle Floors: When you think your on a brittle floor, cast Lumos. This will make the brittle spots of the floor glow. This is not a cheat code. In fact, thats how you get past them. Also, before you climb a ladder look up on the ceiling. The brittle floor will be gray while the strong floor is yellowish.
NOTICE: Nothing will glow if nothing is brittle.
AddictiveIt is quite a challenging game to play, and involve using your head in all aspect. It isn't easy to win but it's fun trying trying to beat again and again. So, it ends up being one of the addictive games out there.
This is so far one of the best game products from Harry Potter's product's line.

And am I glad I did. The game is not overly simplified, but does take you through training very slowly so even beginning gamers can get the hang of it. I have a problem where 3D first-person or third-person games generally make me nauseous after playing a little while. This game provides a good perspective that doesn't have this effect, which is great.
The graphics are pretty good, but could be a little better. Given that this is for the Xbox, some use of pixel shaders or bump mapping would've been nice. Also, the victory moves after making a goal aren't very plentiful and you'll quickly tire of seeing them.
Great Buy
Innovative gameplay, beautiful graphics.I was worried how the gameplay would work; it seemed impossible to program a fair computer Seeker, and since the difference between Chasers and Beaters were so big (Beaters don't even touch the ball) I was baffled as to how they'd keep a game with such separate elements cohesive and fair.
The game revolves primarily around the chasers, with the gameplay having the feel of a 3 on 3 hockey game. With features like "combos" you can even do what would be the equivalent of a slapshot. The shooting and passing are pretty intuitive.
What's very interesting is that you're rewarded for the complexity of your gameplay. "Combos" (kind of a long chain of assists), normal goals, and other touches you add to your style of play affect the "snitch" bar, which is how much boost your seeker gets. The way it works is, once two halves of the snitch bar meet, the game goes into "seeker" mode, which is a race between the two seekers to get the snitch. This race is affected by aforementioned boost, and some kind of snitch "slipstream" which makes you go faster. So, just like in "real" Quidditch, a deficit of 140 points can change with the catch of the snitch, but because of the way the game is designed, it's harder to catch the snitch if the other team has scored better or has more goals than you to begin with.
I was disappointed that you can't play as Ireland, which is one of the major teams in the book. Why this is, I have no idea. You can play as the one of the four houses at Hogwarts to win the house cup, and then win tickets to "attend" the World Cup, where you choose a World Cup team and play as them. The World cup mode is pretty exhausting, however, as it's 18 games long. What is also pretty cool is that your points are cumulative, so if you completely demolish one team (I beat Australia 400 to 0) it affects your rankings, and conversely, if you only lose by a little (say, 160 to 130), you don't go down in ranking as badly if you had been completely shut out.
There are some hangups with the game: the celebratory cut scenes and seeker catches have the same animations for each team, so after awhile you'll get tired of them. So far, I haven't found a way to change players, which is silly, but this oddly doesn't matter as much in the long run, as it changes them automatically based on ball proximity.
The graphics are great, the stadiums incredible, and you'll find yourself wishing you could watch a couple rounds of Quidditch on ESPN.
Also, I'd like to note that on this Amazon page, a lot of people gave favorable reviews then gave no stars. If you're interested in buying it I'd recommend it, but if the fact that it has a low ranking is bothering you, go through the reviews and see for yourself that the ranking should be higher.

Yes, It's Fun the First Time...To be frank, I cannot see for the life of me why, if you have a better gaming platform, you get a better game. I played my friend's version for Playstation 2 and there is SO much more to do. Hogwarts seems to be based off the movie version, as it is huge and has things you would actually see. In the PSX version, you are in corridors that do not follow Hogwarts standard (maze-like) The worst part, in my opinion, is the Gryffindor Common Room. One would just love to have a look around, right? Hah. In this game you have very little to do.
I guess I'm more or less a stickler for roleplaying, and was hoping the game had a more realistic tone to it. Repeating what An Amazon.com Customer said, 'Prof. Lockhart looks like someone hit him with a can opener. Dobby looks like a rat. Colin Creevey is tiny, and Ginny Weasley looks like a pig.' It's all too true. I would love to have moving staircases, secret passages only avaliable with certain spells and more prefects roaming the hallways at dark...it adds a sense of adventure to the entire thing. Oh, by the way, even though Harry FINALLY TALKS, his mouth never moves (or if it does, the inside of his mouth is the same color as his face)
Jump from platform to platform to platform to platform . . .It's not a BAD game; it has it's moments. But it shows that even the irrepressible Harry Potter can't escape the Curse of the Movie-Spinoff Video Game.
Great game, but rather shortMy favorite parts:
Fighting Aragog
Looking for Wizard Cards
Fighting the Basilisk (which, in contrast to Quirrel of SS, was overly easy)
Dueling
My advice to the makers:
Make the next game a little longer, a tad bit more challenging, but not overly so, and make the Duelling a side game for two players so that you can challenge one another. That would be wicked!

Master your wizardry skills as you work through your first year at Hogwarts. Each term offers new and exciting challenges, such as piloting a broomstick through the Forbidden Forest, learning to cast spells and mix potions, scoring house points for Gryffindor, and more. You'll have to work hard to succeed--there are 29 different objectives to complete, as well as obstacles and enemies to avoid.
Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Rubeus Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore, and 16 other unforgettable characters from the book join Harry in chasing down Hagrid's runaway pets, taking flight to compete at Quidditch, navigating the maze of Gringotts, and completing other adventurous scenarios. Along with the school and its grounds, you'll explore Diagon Alley, Privet Drive, the Forbidden Forest, and more.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone offers colorful 2-D graphics that render the action-driven puzzles and minigames in spirited detail. And as Harry, you'll experience the daring and fun of life at Hogwarts, as well as the awesome responsibility of finally finding the Sorcerer's Stone and challenging He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named.

but the grafics are ok.. and the music is normal...
all in all i give this item a 4 star cause it's ends really fast!
but i would advise it!
A good experience for Potter fans1. Music and Effects- got a bit annoying after awhile, and some of the sounds-Malfoy's laugh, Gnomes biting you-will cause you to mute your gameboy. Harry's British accent when he says the spells is nice tho.
2. Graphics- standard 2D, but the backrounds look like photographs which are nice, and the graphics are better than Gameboy Colour's version Harry's running is fluid, for the most part.
3. Playability- fun, but can be very frustrating some of the puzzles will lead you to shut off your gameboy in frustration, which isnt good because of the limited save points. but once you master the puzzles, the game can be quite fun and engaging.
4. Controls- these were actually quite nice- easy to figure out and straight-forward.
5. Replay value-once you've mastered the puzzles, casting spells and re-doing them can be entertaining, and for a Potter fan the sheer joy of exploring Hogwarts is great.
This game will definitley appeal to Harry fans, and perhaps to some puzzle fans, but I'd recommend renting it if you aren't sure. I adored the game, but if I didn't like Harry Potter so much i dont know if I'd be quite so enthusiastic
Should be an OKThe game is based on the hit book series by JK rowling. In the GBA game, you must survive the first year at Hogwarts. This game is made Electronic Arts game. You play the Role of Harry potter exploring Hogwarts in his first year as a student wizard. You must enter classes with Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasly and master 29 skills that are used in the book. You must also overcome challenges that come each term, such as looking for Hagrid's lost pets or finding the sorcerers stone itself.
It should be a hit among kids and will sell out very quickly. EA sure knows how to make a lot of money. There is also a GBC counterpart to this GBA game, which should also sell well.
It really takes a ton of perserverence, fighting all the impossible battles with powerful creatures that are constantly a step stronger than you. So if you've bought all the better games in the world (quite a few, in my opinion), you're so strong a Harry Potter fan you'd (...) someone who dislikes it, or you're a complete fool and/or (...),buy this game.
