A fun toyI got these for my kids so they would stop blowing on annoying whistles, and at least try to make some sort of music. A very durable toy; glad we bought 2.

funI bought this for my sons 2 birthday. I love the qaulity. He has played with it constantly. And I like the box that it came with. Very handy for storage and stuff. This isn't the usual cheapy set that you get for this price. I'm very pleased with this and James loves it, which is a very good bonus. There is a tamborine, a clapper, cymbols, a triangle, moroccas and something else. I'm not sure what it's called. I want to say rain stick but that isn't right. I read the other reviews and I must say that I haven't had the same problems. At least, not yet anyway. It's been under almost constant use since he got it. And the moroccas are really loud. My 6 month old has fallen in love with those and stole them. I inspected them very well to make sure they wouldn't come apart and so far I've had no problems with them. I've bought toys from this company before. At first glance, they may seem a bit high but it's well worth it because everything is good quality and it's built to last. All in all, this is a very good first set of instruments for a little kid.

Terrific fun, but not 100% durable. This item is collection of our boys' favorite toys. The cymbals are the most popular! Our 14 month old loved to bang the moroccas together. Of course, he is younger than the recommended age and the moroccas are not meant to be played with that way. One of them cracked and broke. Please be warned, there are tiny beans inside which could be swallowed. Also, the tambourine was easily ripped and is now reinforced with strong packing tape.

be ready for noiseMy daughter received this set when she was almost 2. She loves banging the instruments together to make as much noise as possible. The paper on the tamborine broke after the first day, she wanted it to be a drum! Overall it's a great way for her to make music.

The accordion is a fascinating instrument that is normally too large and ponderous for children to manipulate. Now there's an accordion that's sized-down and simplified for young children. At rest, this purple, plastic accordion measures a compact 7 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. The bellows can be extended for a total instrument length of approximately 14 inches. A plastic hand strap and thumb loop are nicely sized for small hands and provide for easy compression and expansion of the bellows. The key system is vastly simplified from the traditional accordion: there is a harmonic button, a bass button, and a breath button for the left hand and there are seven button keys for the right hand. Because the right hand buttons produce a different note depending on whether the accordion is being expanded or compressed, 14 distinct notes can be played. The instruction booklet includes a brief history of the accordion, directions for play, and several sample songs to ensure instant musical success. --Tami Horiuchi

good durable toyWe have now had it for over 2 years and between 4 kids and their many friends and cousins, it still lives! Whenever it is found it is played with. Yeah sure the keys get stuck occasionally, but if that happens you just wiggle the end a little bit and presto everything goes back. Worth the money!

Does not lastI had read other reviews regarding the keys getting stuck. I bought for Christmas anyway, and my four-year-old son loved it. The keys threatened to stick on many occasions, and the instrument finally broke on March 7. Six of the seven keys on one side only blow air. I'm not sure what to do because he wants another one.

Even when you miss a note...it's never sour or nerve jangling,
and I think that's what my grand kids love about the accordian.

SO MUCH FUNOur daughter loved this toy so much that we donated one to her nursery school. It is wonderful for teaching the alphabet as they pound on the drum and it even shows the letters as they pound on the drum plus the music and games are a great hit with our Toddler and the rest of her friends at school.

Great for all agesGreat educational tool, and lot's of fun, not only does my 2 year old love this, but my older kids (5, 7 & 8) also have fun with it and learn from it. In less than two weeks they have already learned to count to ten in Spanish. I highly recommend this!

Doesn't hold my daughter's interestMy daughter got this toy about a year ago (8 mos old). She kind of liked it then, but I hoped she would ger more enjoyment out of it as she grew. Now, she completely understands how it works and can turn it on, but she doesn't play with it very long. I would say she has never played with it for more than 5 minutes and usually for much less time. It is a good concept, but for it's selling price, there are a lot of other toys that entertain her longer.

Good toy thingy.Fun, easy to learn, and kind of useless. I say buy this if you're in a band and need a harmonica for a song. I learned how to play well in 2 hours. Kids will quickly get bored with this though. Buy if needed or if you desperately need a hobby.

My son LOVES this little piano!!!Wonderful toy!! Covers a broad age range, too! A definite must-have!!
If you get one baby toy, get this oneWe bought this toy piano for my son when he was three months old. He is now 10 months, and it is still his favorite toy. At three months, he loved gazing in the mirror and watching the lights flash with the music. Now he can turn it on and off by himself, and he laughs and bounces up and down with delight. He drags it by the handle wherever he goes. He plays with this toy more than all of his other toys combined. I definitely recommend it.
Great Musical FunOur daughter loves this toy beacuse she can create her own music or play musical games with this toys and she REALLY loves the different instrument sounds it makes. Right now the flute is her favorite. This is a great toy for those what to expose their children to the wonderful world of music!

MadelineI was disappointed with the quality of this item. The dancing Madeline would not consistantly spin and play music, she needed a good hard tap to get her going. I returned her for this reason. I also thought the outside decoration was cheap--it just seemed to be glued on. I did think the interior was nice as was the pull out drawer. I might have kept it if it worked properly.

Lovely gift for a little girlIt has been 3 weeks since my daughter received this for her 4th birthday. The other toys are played with on different days, but this is the only gift that is, without fail wound, opened, and closed each nite without fail. Wonderful twist on the old balerina style, much more meaningful to a madeline fan. She carefully places her little rings, bracelets and necklaces in there designated spot each nite (never could get her to put them away before!) Really charming, any Madeline fan would be pleased.

A beautiful little must-have for any Madeline fan! From the moment my 3 1/2 year old opened this and the little figure began to twirl around to her beloved "Madeline" song she was enchanted. It has a little drawer on the bottom (that is used for various treasures) and a ring compartment and several other dividers on the top for jewelry or hair clips and such. Unfortunately, the beloved box was left on the floor and accidentally stepped upon by big brother which totally broke off the top of the box. Dad was actually able to glue it back together and it almost looks and works like new! Pretty enough to perch on a bookshelf for display and use!

Baby Tap-a-Tune Piano
Made by Little Tikes
Age Group: 6 months - 2 years
Amazon base price: $13.99
Designed for very young children, this is a charming piano with four large, easy-to-depress square keys in green, blue, red, and orange. When the keys are played, the metal xylophone-style strips on top of the piano produce sweet chiming sounds. This little piano will enchant your child, teach basic colors, and demonstrate a few fundamentals of music. Surprisingly, the notes are delightful even when played all at once--a unique quality in a toy piano. --Sandy Hirsch

Star them out early ...My daughter loves this toy. I got it for her because she loves to pound on things ... the keys are so easy to hit & she loves that she can do it herself. Higly recommend this toy.

Great Starter PianoGood size for little learning hands. Sure there are others out there but it is exciting to see your little one use this piano independently.

Daycare Durable!Smarter Toddler Daycare in NYC has a great music program so they have a couple of these pianos and I have seen my daughter and her toddler classmates really rough them up. This is an incredibly durable starter piano and it is easy for little fingers to press.

First Act's Student Guitar is an excellent choice for children who are just beginning to play the guitar. It's a reduced 30 inches long, rather than a full-size model adults would use. Made with lightweight wood and steel strings, the guitar features a steel-reinforced neck and a high-gloss protective finish that wears well and looks good for the long haul. The low string action design of the fret board makes it easy for small fingers to strike chords without discomfort. A smaller, kid-friendly guitar makes the whole learning experience less stressful and more fun. It comes complete with strap button and pick guard. The strap and pick are not included. --S. J. Kurtz

Fun play guitarMy son LOVES his guitar. Because this guitar looks like a real guitar, my four year old thinks he knows how to play. However, it never stays in tune, and now after 1 1/2 years, it is cracked and needs replacement. This is great if your child isn't ready to really learn to play, since it will rarely stay in tune, but great fun for the music enthusiatist who only wants to play along with his/her favorite musician.

Very fun!I first found out about this guitar when my 11 year old neighbor got one. She brought it over to my house to show me. At first I never thought I would be interested in a guitar because I play the trumpet and I thought it would be hard to learn to play 2 instruments. Whenever I go over to her house I always ask if I could play it and now I can play a chromatic scale on it. This should not be considered a toy because it is a real instrument. Sadly it seems like the strings are not very strong and I'm always afraid of them snapping.

Great Little GuitarMy six-year-old expressed an interest in playing guitar with me. I was hesitant about the First Act Guitar due to it's low price and thought I would have to pay much more for a good student guitar. However, I purchased the First Act Acoustic and have been enjoying my time with my daughter ever since.
The guitar has a good sound and tone, is easy to tune and plays very well. I can use it to demonstrate chords and strumming so that my daughters (my five year old is now playing too) can hear what it will sound like on their guitar.
Playable, affordable and fun ... who could ask for more!

Learning Drum
Made by LeapFrog
Age Group: 6 months - 2 years
Amazon base price: $19.99
When it comes to musical instruments, the drum is arguably one of the easiest to play: just give it a smack. Fortunately, LeapFrog has created a drum that's sure to provide ongoing delight. It's an electronic instrument with four different settings. When set to "ABC," each pat of the drum displays a letter on the drum's top while a friendly voice says the letter out loud. The letters are sequential, so the drummer learns the alphabet. The "123" option works in a similar way. There are also options for musical notes and a traditional drum sound. An off control and two volume settings will be welcomed by parents who are sure to hear this drum being played with repeatedly. If the young drummer pauses for a while, the friendly voice plays a little song or asks to be played with again. --John Moe

Great in Theory, Not so Great in PlayMy daughter received this as soon as she could sit up, and she is now almost 2 and still has no interest in it. The only thing she seems mildly amused by is the little star shaped music changer. I'll be packing it away pretty soon here. Kids are different, so the next one may like it, and yours may love it. If you can test one before you buy it, I highly recommend you do so. For now, we're having more fun with the pots and pans.
Durable, but not much funMy child played with this toy very little compared to the other educational/activity type toys she has. She was bored with it very quickly. My daughter has a lot of the Leap Frog products, this one just doesn't compare to Leap Frog's other toys in the same age catagory. Keep shopping, there is something out there more fun for your little one.
It's okMy son likes it, but he hasn't learned anything from it. Oh, I take that back - he learned how to turn toys on and off - over and over and over and over again!! And how to turn the volume up!! He likes to pound it, but that's about it.
