Pretty Petals Scented Flower Maker
Made by Natural Science Ind Ltd
Age Group: 6 - 12 years
    Amazon base price: $11.99
It's a bit retro and takes a little patience, but the Pretty Petals Scented Flower Maker lets children create a sweet little bouquet of handmade plastic flowers. Dexterity and patience are the name of the game here. The creator is required to wrap wire around a mold, place it in the template, paint it, let it dry for about eight hours, and then peel. The scented stamens (which do smell like flowers) are then added and twisted. Don't expect the final creation to resemble exactly what's depicted on the box, but it should be a close-enough facsimile, and there's a certain pride in making one's own creation. Included in the kit are petal and leaf molds, colored flower-molding material, scented flower stamens, stem wraps, plastic-coated wire, a flowerpot, sand, and instructions. With its floral bouquets, this kit is designed for young girls and is a fun project for friends to do together. Parents will probably want to supervise (or at least be available to help) the youngest kids. --N.F. Mendoza

    Worth it
This craft kit was very fun.. I enjoyed it very much! The flowers were so easy to make and the results were great. I decorated my room with the ones I made... Pretty Petals Scented Flower Maker is definately worth buying!

    What about the perls ?
This would be my second box of pretty petals i bought for my daughter. She loves making them for family and friends.O.K I'll admit I enjoy making them also.Honestly the only part my 6 year old can do on her own is the painting part, but nevertheless she enjoys and takes the full credit for making them. The one and only problem that really upset her was the middles of the flowers, you know the scented things were not exactly what she expected. On the box they were PERLS and all she got was some plastic fake looking thing. ... . Small for me but a HUGE dissapointement for my 6 year old when she opened up her seconed box only to find the same cheep looking middles. poor her!!!

    absolutely beautiful
My daughter received this kit for her fifth birthday. Although it is recommended for 6 years and above she was able to twist the wire around the petal molds and around the stamen. She did need help with making sure she used enough paint and covered the wire and with wrapping the stem. She loved creating her own flowers and the waiting to let it dry only increased her excitement as she checked the petals to see how the color of the paint got brighter as it dried. This product yields results that match the packaging. It does require a child to have patience using the wire and doing the painting it isn't a project that can be rushed. NSi makes mamy other craft kits which we have tried and loved.

    Artist Easel with Tray Supplies
    Made by Alex
    Age Group: 4 - 9 years
    • 48" tall
    • Double-sided easel
    • One side is a chalkboard, the other a dry-erase board
    • Paint jars included
    Amazon base price: $99.99
With this well-designed, double-sided easel, preschoolers can enjoy the advantages of creative expression on an upright surface. The easel's frame is made from sturdy wood left in its natural state, with thick pressed board used as the bases for the art surfaces. One side of the easel has a 24-by-24-inch, green chalkboard, and the other side has a 24-by-24-inch, white dry-erase board. Two removable, washable trays are included to attach to the easel (one with molded spaces to hold paint jars and brushes). The easel requires simple assembly, but no tools are required and all bolts and plastic bolt covers are included. Some thoughtful design aspects include an adjustable height feature, a convenient, built-in paper towel holder, and two metal clips to attach paper for painting. Included in the set are some art supplies to get started: four large, no-spill paint jars, six small jars of poster paint, four paint brushes, a package of colored chalk, six dry-erase markers, a foam eraser. This set was a winner of the Dr. Toy Best Classic Toys Award, and it would be a winning addition to any playroom, family daycare home, or preschool. --Marcie Bovetz, mother and former children's librarian

Great item, but a very pricey
I expected the item to arrive with more supplies and some paper for first time use. My husband and I both agree that the item is well made, durable and the kids love it. The price was just too high, at [$$$] for the item plus shipping, because the item was heavy, this was a [$$$] purchase. Assembly was easy enough, except that the holes on the chalkboard were a little off and it took brute force the line the holes up for the bolt. All in all if I could have returned it without paying another [$$$] I probably would have and spent my [$$$] on art supplies alone. I hope this easel will last through all my children, that way maybe I'll feel justified in the price I paid.

    Very nice easel, but...
My sister purchased this item as a Christmas present for my 3 year old son. He was very excited while his dad was assembleing the easel, however he could not enjoy it right away because the 75 foot paper roll supposed to come with it was not included in the package. Another dissapointed fact was the blue poster color that my son accidentaly spotted the carpet did not come off easily and left parmanent stain on the carpet. We've tried every way to remove the stain (steam vac, detergent, etc.), but we could not get lid of it. I was very surprised the color was not water based considering it is a product for kids.

    Worth every penny!
I purchased this easel for my four year old son. Not only am I pleased that it was so simple to assemble (on Christmas eve!) but it has become a great source of entertainment. The frame is sturdy and will last a long time in a busy house. The marker board wipes off easily and has not discolored at all. The trays help little hands to organize and use the chalk, paints and markers. It did not come with a roll of paper, but the paint jars, brushes, dry erase markers, chalk and eraser were included. Tiny paints were included but are used up quickly. I am highly pleased that I spent the extra money to buy this model.

    Make-Your-Own Opoly
    Made by TDC Games Inc.
      Amazon base price: $19.99
      List price: $24.99 (that's 20% off!)
Monopoly's popularity is of epic proportions. This quintessential board game challenges wannabe capitalists of all ages to accumulate as much wealth as possible by buying, selling, and trading properties; collecting rents; and various other windfalls. Keeping players engrossed for hours, Monopoly requires clever strategizing and sometimes ruthless business maneuvers. Numerous versions of the thoroughly satisfying game have appeared over the years, but Make-Your-Own Opoly could be even better--because players create it themselves! The game includes everything needed to hand-customize the game board, cards, play money--even the box. Whether using a computer and printer or simply a pen and scissors, anyone can manufacture the perfect individualized "Smith-opoly," "Baldwin Middle School-opoly," or "Timbuktu-opoly." Contains CD-ROM, floppy disk, paper and label set, game board, six colored pawns, two dice, easy-to-follow publishing booklet, and game instructions. For two to six players. --Emilie Coulter

      Could of been better
I really liked this game, but it is a big hassle. Sure, it is cool to make your own opoly, but it took to much time. Plus once you put something on the board you can't change it. I wish they made it better, just easier. It would be really cool if you could just send what you wnated to the factory, don't you think? So, if you're wondering whether to buy this or not, it is a very fun thing, but if you are really busy you might not enjoy it as much.

      It's a lot of fun.
I like it because I was able to make it about my favorite spot where I like to go swimming, kayaking, waterskiing, kneeboarding,
tubing, and looking for moose and deer. It was lots of fun. Me and my family love to play it.You should get it!

      Disappointing Alternative
If you are a true Monopoly lover then, you may be very disappointed in "Make-Your-Own-Opoly". There are some major differences in the board from the original Parker Brother's game such as the jail and free parking and "go to jail" have been all changed to loose a turn and roll again and things of that nature. Also, there are no hotels or houses so you were not able to increase land value by developing properties. All in all I found it too far from the concept of the original (or parker brother produced variations) monopoly game to be able to enjoy it as a "Monopoly" alternative.
Other deterrents include that there are only a couple of plain sheets of paper sent with it for your money and property cards to be printed on. One would need to use their own printer paper if they wanted much money at all.

Design Your Own Soccer Ball Kit
      Made by Design Your Own
      Age Group: 5 - 12 years
        Amazon base price: $19.99
Design your own soccer ball with this simple kit. The kit includes a size five (regulation-size) all-weather soccer ball, a pump, a set of six paints (in red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white), a specially formulated paint medium to help the paints stick, and a couple of brushes. The process is simple: Pump up the ball and then paint the white sections in any color scheme. The instructions suggest using team or school colors and painting on names of friends or team members. Allow each part of the ball to dry for two to four hours before rotating the ball to paint the next part. Once the entire ball is painted, another 36 hours of drying time is required to ensure that the paint adheres well. Cool Look, But won't Last
This seems like a lot of fun, but at the same time most people nowadays are looking for the new cool-looking Adidas or Nike. Plus it probably won't last very long because of the material.

        Coming from a kid
Coming from a kid, I must say that this is a wonderful item to have. I got it for my birthday last year and I loved it. I played with all the time. I painted it my own way, and it tought me to be more creative. It looks still liked new, after a year of playing Traveling Soccer. I had my friends sign my soccer ball and now everyone wants to play with it! I love it and if your kid is sporty and has fun painting and stuff...getting this for your kid is a great idea. I loved getting this and so will you!

          Cute activity, Cheap quality
This is a fun activity to do with a child, but honestly, it is cheap quality and not that asthetically pleasing. It is a great fine motor promoting activity - i actually bought it for my 12 yr old and realized that that it really was more appropriate for my 3 yr old. Rachael loves her "pretty things" and it is fun. Glue sticks well too.

          fairly good.
the glass bottles hold up really well, and the glue works well also. the suncatcher is not vey durable at all, and the box is somewhere in the middle. it was a fun hour or so i spent with this kit, and i still have one of the bottles. i wouldn't recommend this to neat freaks (the little pieces go EVERYWHERE) but for anyone else it's pretty fun.

          Makes a great gift
I had this sent to my granddaughter for her 11th birthday. She lives in another state so I haven't seen the crystal mosaics personally but Taylor tells me she LOVES it!

            A nice gift...
The classic "Charm Bracelet' makes a cute and stylish comeback with High Intencity's charms. With dozens of styles (more then on Amazon.com) you can personalize it for whoever you want, and keep it as an heirloom. I've seen everything from rhinestoned letters, to astrological signs, to cute little symbols ranging from a soccer ball to a fortune cookie to a diary.

A cool feature about the charms is that they are easily detachable and can be rearranged to your desire, in fact, I use one of mine on a necklace chain from time to time.

For a unique gift for your friend or child, definately try out one of these, altho the charms are hard to come by in stores.

GREAT GIFT AND IDEA FOR ANY GIRL!
I bought this Charm Bracelet for my daughters birthday and she just loves it. You can buy the extra charms on Imaginarium.com such as dance or music. I'm going to add the extra sets for Christmas and other special occasions. What a great idea!

PRO'S AND CONS TO THE ROCK GARDEN WATERFALL
THE PRO'S TO THIS TOY IS THAT IT'S FUN AND NOT SOMETHING YOU'RE GOING TO FIND AT MOST STORES DOWNTOWN. IT'S UNUSUAL. THAT'S A REAL PLUS TO A TYPICAL CRAFT LOVING KID. MY 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAD A BLAST CREATING A FOUNTAIN SHE DEEMED TO BE UNIQUE. THE PROBLEM (OR CONS) ARE THAT THE PAINTS THAT CAME WITH THE PROJECT WERE DRY AND HARD AS ROCKS. WE COULD'NT GET THEM TO THE PROPER LIQUID CONSISTENCY NO MATTER WHAT WE DID. EVEN HAD WE BEEN ABLE, THERE'S NO WAY THE TINY AMOUNT OF PAINT THAT COMES WITH THIS KIT IS ADEQUATE FOR THE JOB. WE HAD TO BUY PAINTS, AND IT WAS NO EASY TASK FINDING SOME THAT WERE SUITABLE TO THE TASK.
OTHER CONS WERE THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH ROCKS IN THE KIT TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THE PICTURE ON THE BOX AND WHEN THE FOUNTAIN IS ALL PUT TOGEATHER, THERE'S MORE NOISE FROM THE PUMP THAN FROM THE WATER, WHICH DOES MORE TRICKLING THAN ACTUAL FLOWING...
THE IDEA IS AWESOME, BUT THE PRODUCT NEEDS A LITTLE WORK AND IMPROVEMENT. IF YOU DONT MIND BUYING PAINT AND A FEW EXTRAS, AND MAYBE EXPERIMENTING WITH THE PUMP, IT'S A FUN AND WORTHY PROJECT AND I THINK THAT MOST CRAFT LOVERS WILL ENJOY IT.

No reviews found for this product.
a disappointment unless you add your own rocks
I bought this for my niece at age 11. She was able to paint and assemble the kit by herself. She needed a tiny bit of help with one of the wires that connects the battery.

She enjoyed putting it together, but when we added the rocks, it looked very bare. There definitely were not enough rocks.

Luckily we have a collection of "finds" from the beach including beach class, stones, shells, etc, which we used to decorate it.

Unfortunately my sister, after a few months decided that she didn't want the water sitting in their living room where it was waiting to spill on their new leather furniture.

I'd have to say that if you like the idea, the kit alone isn't enough. I'd recommend a nature walk for pretty stones first.

No reviews found for this product.
Great fun but a few things you should know
This toy was great for me (an adult), but I'm not sure an 8 year old would have the patience for it.

A couple of tips: 1) Read the directions through before starting. 2) Don't confuse the white paint with the contact cement. 3) Save a little of the brown and black paint to reapply over the white paint if it gets too light.

A couple of flaws: 1) There aren't enough rocks to make the waterfall look like the pictures on the box. 2) The pump works fine, does not leak or anything, but the sound you hear when it is on is primarily the motor running, not gurgling water. (This is lessened when you take the cover off of the motor, so perhaps playing with the wire positioning, etc., would reduce the motor noise.)

However, I *LOVED* putting this together and am satisfied with the results.

              Bonz Velociraptor (Medium)
              Made by BC Bones
              Age Group: 8 - 12 years
                Amazon base price: $59.99
Armed with sharp teeth and powerful claws for dispatching its prey, the Velociraptor was a relatively small dinosaur that relied on its speed and dexterity to become a successful hunter. By assembling the 62 pieces in this wooden puzzle kit, you can create a scale replica of this prehistoric carnivore's skeleton. Made from Baltic birch, the interlocking pieces in this kit require no hardware or glue to assemble. An excellent exercise in shape recognition and spatial reasoning, assembling the puzzle requires patience and careful attention to detail and, possibly, the assistance of an adult. But the rewards are great as you transform a pile of scattered "bones" into an impressive model of a Velociraptor skeleton. Once the puzzle is assembled, you can leave it standing as a display piece, or disassemble it for future use. A wooden "rock hammer" and sandpaper have been included to aid in the assembly process, but you may pick up a few splinters putting this wooden puzzle together if you're not careful. An educational dinosaur booklet and scientific fact file have been included along with assembly instructions and an excavation site map. Measures 29 inches tall by 48 inches long. --Chris Burns

                Excellent Kit
The kit took a little bit to put together since the pieces fit very tightly. Makes for a nice piece of decoration in my office.

                Very cool
I bought a large Velociraptor and put it together with my daughter. While I have to admit the puzzle is more a 'guy' thing, it was fun to assemble and looks -very- cool in her bedroom.

I recommend thoroughly drying the pieces before assembly - they fit together with less effort that way.

All in all, this toy is very educational and matched amazon's review as being a good lesson in shape identification. But, being a big kid myself, I really like looking at the piece every day. It's as much art as it is a toy or puzzle.

                Glowing Night Sky Box
                Made by University Games
                Age Group: 6 - 12 years
                  Amazon base price: $19.99
Why have a bedroom when you can sleep in the whole universe? The Night Sky Box contains more than 700 colorful planets and glowing yellow stars, plus a solar system mobile--all of the raw materials to construct your own heavens. The majority of the stars are definitely low magnitude (about 0.38 inches across) but some stars and the planets measure 1 inch across. The earth and moon are 7.5 inches across and look spooky and cool when they glow. If you want to get scientific about it, constellation charts are included; but you may have more fun and less frustration making it up. (If anyone tries to get critical of your star placement, just say: "Listen, Earthling, this is exactly what the sky looks like from my home star in Andromeda.") --Richard Farr

Mediocre -- there are better ones
I got 3 of these solar system things at once for our five year old who's into it right now. They were roughly same price. This was the least impressive of the 3. The 2D shapes and chinsey mobile hanger make it a 2nd rate solution. I'd go for the 3D balls instead.

No reviews found for this product.
                  Glowing Planets abound!
I bought this kit in addition to the Glow-in-the-Dark Star Explosions and had a great time turning my grandchildren's room into the solar system.
These planets look great when they are glowing in the dark and are true to their actual size proportion and color. My grandson used an additional set for a school science project, taping the planets onto a black board in their actual order from the sun, so these are good for other ideas besides decorating a room.

                    Great Craft
This book is a great introduction for making candles. While it is targeted towards kids, I had a lot of fun with it. I've been doing crafts for quite a while now, but this was my first candle making effort. The beeswax sheets were easy to use and the candles turned out better than I had hoped. If you are looking for an easy way to get into candle making or just want to make a few for gifts, this is a great way to get started.

                    Not a good idea
I bought this for my 10 year old daughter who is quite creative. These candles looked terrible when she completed the project. What a waste of money.

While I didn't get one for myself, I did give one to a dear aunt and her family and one to a dear friend in CA and they both love them. I have made my own beeswax candles and should buy one for myself. My friend liked learning about the bees and my Aunt Beverly said that they burned nicely.
