50-Piece Fun Foam Letters Mat Set
Made by D&S Marketing
Age Group: 24 months - 6 years
  • Good base for future reading skills
  • 50-piece floor puzzle
  • Toddlers may need some guidance from adults when assembling
  • Comes with a clear vinyl storage case
Amazon base price: $29.99
One of the first steps in learning to read is being able to recognize and label symbols. While your baby may not be naming the entire alphabet by the time he's 1 year old, this interlocking set certainly offers a firm foundation for future reading. Each 12-by-12-inch piece contains an easy-to-grasp, pullout letter of the alphabet; there are 50 pieces in all. Parents may need to help young toddlers with assembling the floor mat, since it requires more detailed puzzle-fitting skills. But children as young as 1 year old can learn to fit the letters into the slots by themselves. This also makes a comfortable tumbling mat or a nicely cushioned play area. The set comes in a clear vinyl storage case with a zip closure. --Hannah Reynolds

All For Fun
I love this mat! I got this for my 9 month old daughter and she immediately took to it. She loved the vibrant colors and the fact that she can pull out the letters, within a couple of days she found out that she could pull the whole mat appart (a lot of work for the parent...but all comepletely worth it). Friends have pulled it appart and have used it as a hop-scotch board and built things out of it. The foam is a little flimsy though, so I would recomend watching children when they are teething and figuring out the capabilities of their teeth. But over all I love this and have recomended it to many people.

If you have hardwood floors, buy this
We have hardwood floors, which are nice, but when you have a baby who wants to be on the floor, it's hard on everyone. So, we went out and bought this. It's much better than the floor, but it's not carpeting. They're pretty durable - my son has taken all of the letters and the numbers out and put them back and they don't seem to be very worn yet! (He's 18 months and we've had it for at least 12 months.) For a long time, that was one of the things he enjoyed doing the most, taking the letters out, walking around with them, and chewing on them. He would also put them back in later, but not as often as he would take them out. I didn't really worry much about the small pieces - the small circles for the inside of the eight, six, zero, b's, etc - since we're with him when he plays with this. But if you are, you can simply take them out and put them away for later. Of course, that means that your child will be able to pull out the letters and numbers more easily, but that's part of the fun. (Little ones have a hard time getting much of a gripe on the letters and numbers when they're pushed flush with the blocks.) Also, I think that it's nice to have the alphabet out and some numbers. My one complaint is that the one we got, when it's put together has six vertical stripes through all the letters, but then the numbers don't continue it. I guess I wish ours was more random, which some are.

Missing pieces, manufacturer website doesn't exist
Love the ABC mat concept and the vivid colors! The mat's letter "I" was missing. Tried to pull up D&S Products International's website, ... and it just came up a general directory page called Retroglo Directory Page. I searched for Fun Foam Letters Mat and it came up amazon.com and ToysRus. Said that the product is no longer stocked or has been discontinued. Did a Google Search and found no D&S Products International or RetroGlo--only sourceguides came up when I even plugged in the address of D&S. ... I read other products reviews of this mat and others are missing borders and letters as I am.

    mom_of 16month_old
I purchesed this toy from an educational store looking for something to travel with and something without batteries. We bought it 2 months ago when my son was 14 months old and he liked it right away. It only took him several hours to figure out how to stack them. He plays with them every day and his color preferences are showing up while he plays with the pegs (he picks out all the orange ones first). He works both hands on his own when trying to stack the pegs. I think it has helped him in learning how to hold crayons. The only dislikes I have with this toy is the foam mat and the thin plastic wall in the center of the pegs. My son is still at that age were he bites everything and sometimes I think that if he worked at it enough he could chew a corner of the mat. We had one of the center hole walls break the other day and found the piece on the floor. So I would inspect them every so often. Also, try to teach your kids to hold the pegs down low as to not poke themselves in the eye when trying to stack the pegs with out the mat. It happened to our son--nothing severe just alot of crying. Overall it's a great toy and worth the money. I would definately purchase it as a gift for other children as well. Our son gets very excited when I ask him if he wants to play with his pegs. :)

    Fun but a little flimsy
My 21-month-old loves stacking things and sticking things into other things. So this toy was perfect for him, except that the base should be made of something a little more sturdy. It's rather flimsy rubberized material. He can't play with it in his crib or on my bed. He has to place it on a table or something else with a hard surface. Other than that, he seems to really like it.

    Great toy for the kids
I bought this because my son used to play this in OT sessions. He loved it and it really helps him to concentrate, use both hands (motor skills).

I will recommend this to everyone (1+year kids)

    LOVE IT!!!
My daughter loved this toy, and sat in it everyday, until she was 8 months old. The only reason I am finally packing it away, is because she won't sit still anymore. I will buy this as a gift for now on, since it is my favorite toy! This is also the best traveling toy, it just foldes up into a little carry bag.

    GREAT PLAY MAT FOR BABIES!
My baby is 3 months old and loves tummy time on this mat!So many shapes and colors to look at ,It also has a mirror on the red and black infant side! You can put toys infront of the baby and not have to worry about them getting out of reach because the sides keep other toys in the circle :-) Just one bad thing that the Price is high made me think twice because of cost but, very happy we purchased it and all in all nice play mat!

    The Horrible Playmat
I've never seen my child so unhappy and unsafe in this horrible playmat!

    Transportation 9-piece Peg Puzzle
    Made by Melissa & Doug
    Age Group: 24 months - 5 years
      Amazon base price: $9.99
Preschoolers are fascinated by all kinds of vehicles. This wooden peg puzzle shows nine different vehicles, including a police car, a fire truck, and an ambulance. Each removable puzzle piece has a laminated picture and an attached red peg to help little hands lift the pieces out of the frame. The same pictures that are on the pieces are illustrated on the board, making it easy for little ones to match pieces when reassembling the puzzle. The puzzle frame is made of natural wood with rounded edges and measures 8.5 inches high by 12 inches wide. The puzzle pieces may also be used as templates for tracing the shapes of the vehicles. --Marcie Bovetz

      My 18-mth-old son loves it!
He plays with it all the time, has learned to say the names, and can put the pieces in place. He loves to bring the puzzle to me and have me say the names. Very sturdy. I love that the pictures underneath match the pieces. Great puzzle!

      Teethers beware splinters.
My kid mostly played with the cars as though they were cars. He did some shape matching for a few minutes, but would get bored with that pretty quickly. My biggest problem was pulling the splinter out of his lip after he gnawed on one of the puzzle pieces.

I'm having the same splinter problem with the wooden ABC blocks. Funny -- I don't remember that being a problem when I was a kid.

      love wooden puzzles
my son got this as a gift, he loves vehicles and learnt all the different vehicle names on this puzzle. the pictures are detailed and colorful. the only thing is he mastered it so quickly, there are only a certain amount of times you can do this puzzle before it becomes basic. (this may be true of any puzzle) i try to keep it out of sight and bring it out every now and then to keep the interest.

        Love Melissa & Doug puzzles!!
I have not been dissappointed with ANY of Melissa & Doug puzzle...we have 7 now. This is the first for our youngest and I look forward to playing with the fuzzy farm pieces with him. A durable, safe edged puzzle that is colorful but not scary for little ones. My hat is off to Melissa & Doug once again.

        cute puzzle to learn with
Our son received this as a gift for Easter this past year. He isn't much on puzzles but this one really caught on. He likes the fuzzy animals I think the best, but he has become quite good at putting them in their proper places. It's also been a good tool to teach him the animals and to *nicely* pet the animals. His favorite is the little duck as it ends up in is crib quite often. Very cute puzzle with the extra added bonus of the peices being soft. Puzzle and pieces are made of wood (except the fuzzy coats) so it holds up well and the price is reasonable.

        Excellent First Puzzle
I got this for my daughter just before her first birthday, and she loved it--I think probably because the fuzzy pieces are as much like toys as anything else. They are among the first farm animals that children learn the names of, and she enjoyed repeating their names and making their sounds. The other puzzles she got were just puzzles, but it was as though this one had a personality that made it a toy as well. I don't think it's a good puzzle for an older toddler, but at one year most children's "shape-fitting" skills are pretty limited. I think a puzzle with a few, simple pieces that can double as toys is a great first puzzle for the 12-month old set.

        Nursery Center
        Made by JC Toys
        Age Group: 4 - 6 years

For toddlers with a baby brother or sister on the way, this nursery playset will give them valuable practice in the duties required when caring for a newborn. Kids can put their favorite baby doll (up to 16 inches long) down for naps in the padded crib or change her diaper on the foldout changing table. An adjacent bathing area with a real working showerhead, play soap, and soap dish lets kids give baby a bath. The tub pops out to be replaced by a kitchen sink, which toddlers can use to pretend to make bottles or prepare food. An included swing helps soothe baby doll when she’s cranky and converts into a high chair when it’s feeding time. Each of the six nursery stations has an accompanying electronic sound that plays at the touch of a button. The whole playset packs up easily and can be wheeled into another room for continued play. Other accessories include two hangers for doll clothes. --Cristina Vaamonde

          Not worth the $$$
My (almost) 3 year-old daughter receieved this from Santa for Christmas. I read the reviews on the different nurseries and although I was hesitant, this one looked like it had the most "activities" for a child. Well it does have plenty to keep my daughter busy- she loves giving her dolls baths and putting them to bed - but the high chair falls apart if she even gets near it. She is not a rough child, the toy is just extremely flimsy. I am going to buy her a different high chair for her birthday and throw this one in the trash. We might change it to a swing to see if that helps. I had read similar complaints and ignored them - if you are reading this, I would heed the warnings! For [the price], it's just not worth it!!

Hours of fun & pretend play
My girls, 2 & 3 years old, love this Nursery Center. It keeps them busy for hours. It is great for pretend play, however, it is not very sturdy.

Lots of fun, but too loud and somewhat flimsy
My daughter just got this for Christmas and she loves it! I agree the swing is flimsy and falls apart too easily, but it is easy to put back together and not as bad as the Little Tykes one. The changing table is just the right size for her dolls and she has some pretty big ones and she loves the little bed. I love that it can be folded up quite compactly if needed. My only problem, it did not come with the purple bathtub, I have contacted the company, we'll see what happens with that. And it is WAY TOO LOUD!!! Like most of her toys, we will be taping up the speaker.

All in all, this is a fun toy, but is not appropriate for very rough children, including most under the age of 2 or 3 or the more rough kids that are older. We love it anyway.

          Tiny Love: Toys (Primary)
          Made by Tiny Love
            Amazon base price: $9.99
These stimulating toys are designed to be attached to other Tiny Love products, such as the Tiny Love Gymini 3D Activity Gym and the Tiny Love Gymini Deluxe. The set of three keys will be a sure hit with babies--easy for small hands to handle and made with plenty of chewy rubber. The rattling bear flying on a rubbery yellow cloud makes an excellent teething toy. The cloth bird with flapping yellow wings makes a satisfying squeak when squeezed. The plastic link on the toys allows them to be attached just about anywhere, but especially to cribs and playsets. --Gail Hudson

            Not So Great Toy
My father bought this toy for my son as an Easter gift when he was 8 months old, and the only thing he liked was the teethable car keys. I think this toy was actually ment for a much younger baby, and not an 8 month old.
I now have a 7 week old baby who might find the toys to be more fun, since I put them away when my first ds was 12 months old. Although, since I have gotten them back out, my now 19½ month old still wants the keys, even though I think he's too old for them, and he still has his plastic keys that aren't really made for teething.

I'll probably write another review on this toy when I see if my youngest son likes the toys or not.

            playtime wont last long
Like I wrote in my title, playtime wont last long! My daughter still cant really use the squeeze toy and shes much older than when she first got these toys which were her first! The other toys didnt really keep her interest at all. I used these toys when she was really really young just to get her eyes to follow objects. After that these toys basically stayed at the bottom of the toy box.

A nice addition to your activity gym
These colorful toys are sure an eye-catcher for my 4 month old! He loves to shake the keys around and we found a hidden surprse in the birdie the other day......it sqeeks! Not only can you hang these on your activity mat/gym but you can take them off for your baby to shake and play with for months even after he outgrows the gym!

              Mom of 4
I bought this for my then 9 month old son. We have four children, the last which came 8 years after we thought we were "finished". With that in mind, we didn't want to invest a lot of money in "kid" furniture because it wasn't going to get handed down to anyone, but we did want some thing that was going to be sturdy and safe for a little one. This storage center is perfect. It has the durability of Little Tikes that we have trusted for 14 years now and it has a nice furniture look to it so that our sons room isn't made entirely of plastic. He can pull himself up on it safely and easily access the drawers where his books and toys are kept. Keep in mind he is still only a week shy of 11 months. I think it is a great product. I think the prior negative review must have been a fluke. It obviously is suppose to come with the assembly hardware and hopefully their problem got resolved. Little Tikes has always been a great company for our family and my only complaint is the discontinuation of items that we thought were fantastic!!!

              Excellent piece of furniture....
I order this for my one year old and it is perfect. It took a very little time to put together and was a very sturdy storage shelf. I don't have to worry about it tipping over. The storage bins are very sturdy not flimsy like some. Overall it is pricey but I feel well worth the money.

              GREAT PRODUCT FROM LITTLE TYKES!!!
We have been faithful buyers of everything Little Tykes since our first child was born, over 8 years ago. I was SO excited to see that they had come out with wood furniture and thought we would give it a try! We are THRILLED with the quality of this product! It went together easily and it looks great!! My husband is putting the matching toy box together as I type this, and I am sure it will be equally as nice!! I hope that Little Tykes continues to expand their line of wod furniture...I will continue to buy it!!

                cute,small and poorly designed
My almost two year old received this as a gift for Christmas. There were no instructions for assembly in the box and the back wheels do not just snap on like the front ones. I exchanged it for another one and had the same problem- no instructions and back wheels wouldn't stay on. I didn't think to hammer them on because I didn't want to crack the plastic wheels but maybe that will work. It is the perfect size for a child who is 18months or older but if you want a toy that will have a little more longevity keep shopping.

No reviews found for this product.
Not for ages 4 to 7
I ordered 2 of these strollers. They are listed as having a manufacturers age of 4 and up. When I received them they were VERY SMALL and it was CLEARLY MARKED on the box for ages 2 and up. They were too small for the 4 and 5 year olds I bought them for. This stroller would be great for A 2 YEAR OLD. Very disappointing.

                  FUN TOY
Thanks to this toy now my baby's nickname has
become "Croki!" Imagine that!!! she loves it
and is always carrying it around. The voice & tone are fine
and cathcy for a lil' kid. I wouldn't expect your child to really play & understand it until at least 1 year old. One thing, though that's annoying, the numbers on the hands are VERY HARD to press, even for an adult. They should fix this because
a child is not able to do it on their own. Overall, it's worth
                  the buy.

Don't Be Mistaken by other reviews
I love this toy. It was very clear and understandable. It didn't need english instructions because a small child could figure it out. It didn't have all the letters but most small children can't pronounce those letters anyway and unless spanish is the primary language they won't need them. Basic words are fine. I also saw a review that said it was dialect biased, and it's not. Most people think that because a lot of spanish speaking people are so used to their particular dialect that they think it is the way everyone one speaks it. It's not. It uses the proper spanish dialect. I very much recommend this toy for early beginners.

Buttons can be hard for little fingers
As an American of Cuban descent, it is important for me to teach my son son Spanish. I got this toy to help him mainly with the alpahbet. He didn't really start appreciating it until almost 22 months, but he seems to like it now. However, some of the buttons, particularly the ones on the right side of his shirt, can be hard to press. I even struggle with a couple of them.

That being said, the Spanish spoken is excellent and, as stated earlier, not biased towards one dialect. The voice of Croki is quite sweet, not at all annoying like some toys. The games are cute and I think he will like them more as he growns older, particularly the one where they are asked to find a mystery letter of a certain color. I just wish they could have incorporated in a couple more colors (black, brown, white, and yellow) so that it could do more for teaching colors. But, overall, I would recommend this toy.
