Super Mario World

Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo sits at or near the top of most "best video games" lists for a reason. At the time of its release, it was a dramatic evolution of the side-scrolling Mario series of action-adventure games, incorporating every gameplay element that worked in the older titles while adding a seemingly endless supply of new tricks. This new feature-complete version of Super Mario World for the Game Boy Advance proves just how timeless designer Shigeru Miyamoto's 1991 classic really is.

In true Miyamoto fashion, the game starts with simple running and jumping and gradually gets more complex. Soon, you're swimming, flying, tossing fireballs, and riding one of several Yoshis--cute little dinosaurs--that appear throughout the game. The overall level design has yet to be exceeded in a 2-D platformer, with each colorful level packed with enough secrets to keep players busy for weeks. A lot of precision jumping is required, but the controls are so tight that directing Mario (or even Luigi, who wasn't playable in the original) becomes as natural as breathing within a few minutes of playing.

As if packing the entire original game onto the tiny cartridge wasn't enough, Nintendo also put two multiplayer versions of the original Mario Brothers in there, which are playable solo or with up to three other people using Game Link cables to connect all your Game Boy Advance systems. Both variants are a blast, but the single-player adventure is what kept us coming back for more. If you missed it 10 years ago when Super Mario World appeared on the Super Nintendo, don't make the same mistake twice. --T. Byrl Baker

    Pros:

    • The game is very replayable thanks to multiple level exits
    • Surgically precise controls
    • Outstanding level designs that never get old
    Cons:
    • Speech effects that were added for Mario and Luigi get old fast

    Everything Old Is New Again.
I am old enough to remember this game when it first came out, and when I heard it would be released on the GameBoy Advance I was very excited. Thankfully it is as much fun today as it was then and is still arguably the best 2-D platform game ever. Nintendo has refined Mario to a science and this game represents the pinnacle of the 2-D versions. With seven areas to explore and 96 goals to find you'll be running, jumping, and flying for hours.
For those of you who have not played the Super Nintendo version, in SMW Mario, Luigi, and the Princess decide to take a vaction from the troubles of the Mushroom Kingdom in Dinosaur Land. When they get there they learn from a friendly dinosaur, Yoshi, that Bowser has trapped his friends and taken over the island. On top of this the Princess has disappeared. So Mario and Luigi set off to find the Princess, save the Yoshi's, and stop Bowser.
Mario has many power-ups at his disposal including the usual mushrooms, fire flowers, and a new feather which gives Mario the ability to fly with a cape. This game was also the debut of Yoshi, Mario's dinosaur buddy, and this adds a new dimension to the gameplay. Since Yoshi can swallow enemies with his tongue some areas become much easier with his aid. Not included in the original but added for the GBA is the ability to play as Luigi. Luigi can jump higher and fly farther than his brother and is more suited for some levels. Its up to you to choose which plumber is best for you.
The gameplay is divided between the seven different areas of Dinosaur Land. Within each area are many individual side-scrolling levels to complete. You advance through the game by completing one level to get to another. There are also shortcuts to be found by discovering the hidden goals of many levels. The world map screen is where you choose the level you want to attempt, and all levels except for castles can be replayed infinitly. The castles are where you fight each areas guardian before moving on to the next area. The original Mario Bros. arcade game is also included. You can play solo or against a friend in battle mode. It's not much, but it does add a little extra something in terms of replay value.
Super Mario World is a classic that has stood the test of time. It's simple enough for anyone to enjoy but deep enough with it's replay value for seasoned vet's to appreciate. It's pure fun and thats what video games should be. A must own for the GameBoy Advance.

New challenges 100s of new details, not as good of graphics
Nintendo decided to skip Super Mario 3, and go for 96 level Super Mario World, in the second installment of Mario on Gameboy Advance. The game starts with a new intro of Mario, Luigi and Peach out in a hot air balloon, where Mario and Luigi go off flying with their caps, when they return, the Princess has disappeared! For those of you who have played Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo, nothing big has changed, but there are 100s of details which have improved, which most people would never notice, such as the ability to save anywhere (because this is portable), more sound effects like the voices of Mario and Luigi and also hold 999 lives! An amazing new feature is the colored Yoshi's! Once you find a colored Yoshi in the hidden Special World, you can find them everywhere at random. The graphics however are not as bold and bright as Super Mario World, instead they are light and dull. The sound really is not up to par with the original game either. There are new controls as well, such as the jump and run are still the A and B buttons, but now the spin jump is the R button. There are also new intros and finishes to the game. Like Super Mario Advance, there are several new challenges, such as there are now 350 dragon coins in the game, get them all, and see a little scene where Princess Peach turns them into Princess coins. For every 1 million points you earn a star is added to the start screen. Silly little challenges that will keep people working for years to come.

One of the best Mario games of all time
This is the original Super Mario World game from Super NES but now transformed into a Gameboy world. This game is awesome and one of the best in the Mario series (Super Mario Bros. 3 first and tied with Super Mario 64). It's a much better play if you have the Gameboy Player for Gamecube so you can play it on the big screen just like old times but either way, this game will have you playing for hours on end.
The best features about this game are the fact that you can be both Mario and Luigi, have Yoshi (in 5 different colours I might add) and the exclaimation mark stages, the first one (yellow) is the best. This game has so many stages and secrets. The Star World is awesome, especially the Special Stage World, I wish they still made games like this one.
Treading similar waters, this time Mario has a cape and can fly, a lot longer than in Super Mario Bros. 3 where you have the tail and can only fly for a limited time. In this game you can fly over the whole stage...if you want but what would be the point of that? The cape is one of the best items to ever grace the Mario series.
The whole walk through, through Dinosaur Land is awesome, you go through many areas like the Cave and a Forest. I also like the secret level where you can easily go get Yoshi and a couple of mushrooms/flowers or capes...whichever floats your boat. Another great secret is the one stage where you can get 45-50 lives, this should last you the rest of the game. Butter bridge is one of the harder levels, you'll need those lives and where the "cheat" level is located, you should be using them real soon.
In all, this is an amazing game, there isn't much more I have to say, just buy it and you'll understand. An excellent classic and Mario is the best hero ever (well, second to Link). Enjoy.

    Mario Kart Advance
    Made by Nintendo
Age Group: 6 years and up
      Amazon base price: $29.99
      List price: $34.99 (that's 14% off!)
      Used price: $11.75

Nintendo's winning streak of rehashing and enhancing classic Super Nintendo games for the tiny GBA screen continues with this surprisingly addictive arcade racer. For those new to the Mario Kart game series, Nintendo mascots (Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, etc.) race go-carts along fantastic tracks that feature various offensive and defensive power-ups (banana peels and mushroom boosts, to name two). Accumulate enough points and you'll win circuit trophies.

Each mascot has a ride that handles and accelerates differently, yet the controls for each racer feel very tight and precise. The highly detailed, cartoony locales of Mario Kart Super Circuit show visuals that are both very sharp and fluidly animated. Though not nearly as fast, Mario Kart Super Circuit looks better and can be more intense than the vaunted F-Zero launch title.

If you perform well enough and collect enough coins in a tournament, you can unlock a plethora of bonus tracks--some of which are from older console Mario Kart titles. The fun multiplayer options include head-to-head racing and a balloon battle mode, in which you blast other racers with power-ups in a huge arena until there's only one driver left. --Mark Brooks

      Pros:

      • Bright graphics that are both fast and fluid
      • Multiplayer battle mode is loads of fun
      • Many, many tracks!
      Cons:
      • May be too cute for some

Hands down, the best current game for the Game Boy Advance
Although this game is not being released in the US for another month, I bought the imported Japanese version a few days ago (it's called "Mario Kart Advance" overseas), and I have been absolutely enthralled by it ever since my purchase. The graphics are phenomenal and really show off the capabilities of the Game Boy Advance's 32 bit processor. The backgrounds are lush and vivid, and the individual cars are detailed nicely. The music and sound effects are great as well, and the gameplay is true to the classic Super Mario Kart. For those that have played both the Super NES version and the N64 version, I'd say that this game is a bit closer to the original SNES game (which I personally thought was a better game than the N64 sequel).

I'd also like to mention that this game blows away Konami's Krazy Racers. I own both games, and wish that I had saved my money and bought only Mario Kart. Mario Kart has so much more depth that it puts Krazy Racers to shame. Mario Kart is the best game I have played for the GB Advance so far (Castlevania COTM is a close second).

If you're looking for a great, challenging go-cart racing game, don't waste your time with the Konami clone: wait for a month and buy Mario Kart Super Circuit- you'll be glad you did!

      Super Circuit: Best for GBA!!!
Mario Kart Super Circuit is worth buying and a great addition to your Gameboy Advance game collection. You get all the favorite characters: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Peach, DK, Wario, and yes, Bowser. Peach and Toad have the best speed, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi have average speeds. Those are best choices. The slow ones or heavyweights are Bowser, Wario, and DK.

You also get new tracks like Cheep Cheep Island, Ribbon Road, Yoshi Desert, and Bowser's Castle 1-3. You can link up with other players and race together in a sudden death match! You get the rainbow boxes with all the weapons. Like lightning, shells, and banana peels. Don't forget the ULTRA POWERFUL STARS!!!! You go at top speed and when you hit a racer they crash or slide on the track leaving them like dust.

You have to get in 1, 2, 3, or 4 place to go to the next track. Get high points so at the end you become one of the top three!! If you do you get the bronze trophy if in third, silver if in second, and the BEST, GOLD if in first!!!! Think you got what it takes to be a chart toping racer? Then racers, start your ENGINES!!!!!!!

        AWSOME!!!!!!!!!
Ok, this game is one of the best reasons to buy an internet modem. You can make a clan while playing online. You get to invite or expel people to join this clan. With the usb heaset you can communicate with team mates or ur human teamates with the headset. It is a first and a third person view. By pressing the d pad you can change the wiews. You shoot with L1 and change to different weapons with L2. There are over 30 weapons!!! In the single player there are 12 missions. Which you try to stop terrorist. (i am not being very accurate on the stoy) I recommend this to everyone who wants a good action and internet game!!!!

PS2 Socom, challenging & entertaining, the way it should be
The Gameplay and graphics are excellent for a 1st/3rd person shooter. Although the controls take getting used to, its definately worth the high learning curve, but if you've ever played Metal Gear Solid 2, you know what i mean. A definate plus to this game is the fact the voice commands via the headset actually work (you have to speak caveman with simple preset terms). It definately brings in the excitement to the play when you're calling for backup or assigning attacks with your secondary team Bravo. Online play brings enjoyment with reach-out-and-frag-someone on the otherside of the country feel, but some lag issues will remain since this is sony's first real online system. This is a great game, i really like it, i gave it a 4/5 due to the high learning curve for the keys. But overall its worth the money.

        Great graphics, greater gameplay
I encountered this game at this year's E3 and, I must say, I was very impressed. PS2 owners have been anticipating both online game play and this game for awhile now and it's nice to see both finally surface.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs takes full advantage of online gameplay, featuring a 16 multiplayer mode, 3 game types in 12 online multiplayer maps that were created specifically for online play, persistent servers, and great clan support. The game is only available to broadband users for online play because of the rich gameplay, which should significantly cut the lag time so many other games have a problem with. Even better, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is free to play online.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is perhaps one of the most lifelike FPS to develop, with Sony using actual SEALs for consulting purposes. The missions, movements, tactics and SEALs themselves are true to life and unparalleled. The weapons, which you can carry two of at a time, are realistically accurate and react to real-life factors like fatigue, movement and weapon recoil.

But for the majority, the most anticipated feature of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is the headset that is bundled with the game ... It boasts voice recognition capabilities that will come in quite handy during the game, as it's hard to shoot down terrorists while typing on a keyboard. Shout to your teammates for help and they'll (hopefully) come to your aide, all with minimal lag time. During single-player mode, enemies will also react to your vocal commands.

Overall, this is an excellent FPS. From the previews and gameplay at E3, I have not one single complaint about the game. It's fun, exciting, and has great replay value. Dial-up users will be disappointed that the game is only available to broadband users for online play, but that feature will only help the game, making it much more enjoyable to play over the internet without huge delays.

So you are not short of wrestlers to choose from. There is also a highly detailed ring and arena to the area, all of the stadiums are so highly detailed that you might get confused between that and the real thing!
There is also loads of new and old match types to choose from.
There are Elimination Chamber, Table, TLC, Bra and Pantie, Hardcore, Ladder, Elimination Tag, Royal Rumble, First Blood, Lumber Jack, Special Referee, Slobber Knocker, Cage, Hell in a cell, Survivor, Six man Tag,Tornado Tag, Tag and a lot more I just cannot remember the rest lol. Keep in mind that you can have a triple threat ladder match and a tornado tag table match so this game will provide you with loads of things to do!

There is also a amazing season mode which is MUCH better than Wrestlemania XIX's Revenge mode because there are highly detailed story lines, 200 of them in fact and they are all written by the WWE writers, BEAT THAT WRESTLEMANIA XIX. Another part of the game i am sure you will enjoy is the Create a Wrestler feature, they have extended it greatly since SHUT YOUR MOUTH! and now you can make a wrestler almost exactly how you want it to look!

The graphics will blow you away they are so much better than WRESTLMANIA XIX'S and the same as WWWE RAW 2'S this is a good thing because i found SHUT YOUR MOUTH! slightly blocky and hard ot figure out whose who.

Another thing that is AMAZING is the entrances they will blow you away, but the only problem is, is that when you are creating a wrestler you cannot create a too good entrance.

The sound is pretty good but THQ promised us voice overs and we did not get that :( there is also no commentry! I know commentry does get annoying but it would be nice to have JR and King behind the commentry desk! But the music is O.k.

Gameplay is pretty good its simular to SHUT YOUR MOUTH! but it is easy to pick up.

        Pokemon Crystal
        Made by Nintendo
Age Group: 6 years and up
          Amazon base price: $5.29
          List price: $29.99 (that's 82% off!)
          Used price: $17.47
Buy one from zShops for: $19.99
Pokémon Crystal is to Pokémon Gold and Silver what Pokémon Yellow is to Pokémon Red and Blue. It features several minor upgrades from its predecessors, but in essence it's still the same game. The classic Pokémon formula of adventuring, collecting, and battling is at a series best with Crystal. This is one of the best and most addictive role-playing games for the Game Boy Color.

The most notable feature is the selectable female trainer who has her own set of animations and backgrounds. This is a great option for female Pokémon fans who were previously stuck playing the game as a male character. There are also subtle improvements to the cell phone system, HM moves, and prebattle animations. Rival trainers' phone calls are now more plentiful and pragmatic. HM moves, which are required throughout the game, are available at the push of a button--you'll no longer have to navigate menus to use these moves. Lastly, seeing a Pokémon's new animation makes encountering new creatures more fun than before.

If you haven't played Gold or Silver yet, Crystal is definitely the way to go. If you've played those previous games, Crystal has only enough new features to justify a purchase from Pokémon fanatics. This game is compatible with the link cable, Game Boy printer, and Pokémon Pikachu 2. It's playable on Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance only, and can be played on a television using Pokémon Stadium 2 and a Transfer Pak. --Raymond M. Padilla

          Pros:

          • New female trainer
          • Prebattle animations are cute
          • Lots of subtle improvements
          Cons:
          • Too similar to Gold and Silver
          • Mobile phone features not in the U.S. version

The Real Deal For Pokemon Crystal
1.The Best thing about this game is the new battle tower in olivine city You can go in pick the other trainers levels of Pokemon and battle them (This is helpful for raising pkmn) if you win you can get rewards like carobs and protein :) 2. in the runes of Alph you have to read the massages on the wall like a book to figure out puzzles. this makes this side quest harder. 3. You will have an easer time catching one of the hardest to find Pokemon Suicune after you battle the wise trio. in tin tower 4. in gold and silver the dragons den is just a hiding place for the dragons fang in crystal you have to pass many quizzes to get the last badge in johto 5. Buena a radio DJ in the radio tower of johto gives out a password every day and you go to her tell the password to her and she gives you points that you can redeem for prizes like nuggets and iron and other great things here is a full list ultra ball is 2 points full restor is 2 points nugget and rare candy are 3 points protein, iron carbos calucim and hp up are a whopping 5 points each. 6 in the day care center next to goldenrod city a man will give you an egg but IT IS NOT TOGEPI it could be Pichu or maybe igglybuff it is a mystery?????? 7. the images in crystal have been enhanced like the ice path to blackthorn city it looks like it is pure ice the ground is covered in snow and the "rocks" the things that block the sides of the path look like ice crystals it makes you feel cold while going through it. and a new thing in battle and in the pokedex the Pokemon move around i call this Pokemation for example Sentret waves its arms and bounces and Pikachu waves winks and raises one foot before battle. 8 in gold and silver the cell phone is just for rematches but in crystal you can get real good info and things like evolution stones potions and other great stuff 9 some Pokemon learn new attacks like Yanma it learns wing attack and Snesel learns metal claw and dug trio learns Tri attack 10. and the newest and the best thing for pokegirls every where you can chose to be a boy or girl. 11. there is a guy that will teach one of your pokemon ice beam thunderbolt or flamethrower to your pokemon for a price of 4000 coins whitch is not bad if you have pokemon stadiunm 2 and a transfer pack. 12. one bad thing is to catch hoho you have to catch all the ledgendary dogs and defeat the eliet four talk about demanding. one more thing YOU CAN'T CATCH THE TIME TRAVILING POKEMON CELEBI this fact is proven by nintendo and nintendo power magazine it is just another roumor like the mew code in red blue and yellow it is not real I'm real sorry i had to spill the beans on the sad truth.

Pokemon Crystal: Best video game I ever played
Here's what's new from the gold and silver versions: 1. u can choose 2 be either a boy or a girl this doesnt change the story it just changes the color of your pokegear and your graphic 2. there is a new battle tower west of ollivine city u can win prizes like iron carbos calcium and protien 3. suicune is now easier 2 find and catch 4. there r different cell phone numbers 2 register and u can get items like elemental stones from certain trainers 5. there is a rooftop square on the goldenrod radio tower that holds bargain sales every so often 6. different items 7. new rival mysticman eusine also wants to catch suicune 8. u can enter the dragon shrine and the dragons den isnt just a hiding place 4 the dragon fang 9. different pokemon found in different places 10. traders have/want different pokemon 11. ruins of alph is harder 12. u can catch ho-oh after catching every legendary dog and beating the elite 4 and lance 13. new DJ Buena listen 2 her station between 6 PM and midnight then go 2 the radio tower tell her the password and win points u can trade in points 4 free stuff like ultra balls hp up and rare candy
I'm sorry 2 have 2 break the bad news but u cant catch Celibi. Otherwise, this is the best video game I have ever played!

Excellante!!!! A Masterpiece For Every RPG Gamer!!
Pokemon Crystal is the best pokemon game ever so far, so here's the real deal:

          1. Pokemon animate now, like Pikachu blinks and waves his arm. 2. There is a Battle Tower now west of Olivine City which has tons of trainers ready to battle you. If you win, you may even get Protein, Carbos, etc. 3. Suicine is a major player in the game. (I think the box says so...) A Suicine fanatic, Eusine, wants to capture it, and you are his rival. 4. You can capture Ho-oh in this game, one one condition: You must beat the elite four and capture all the ledgendary dogs. 5. You can choose to be a girl. If you are, you graphic will look different, and your pokegear looks different too. 6. Trainers give different responses when they call you via cell phone. 7. Unown puzzles in the Ruins of Alph are more interesting. 8. A new radio show, hosted by Buena, gives you a password every night. Tell the password to Buena in the Radio Tower in Goldenrod to redeem points to get free prizes. 9. Pokemon are found in new places and learn new moves. 10. The Ice path looks much cooler than in G/S. The walls look like ice.

But........ YOU CANNOT GET CELEBI and there are no Cell phone capabilities for the US version. (It is only in the Japanese one.)Please keep this message in mind because dumb people love to spread rumors and "catching Celebi in Crystal" is one of them, just a bunch of foey!

But my point is, buy Pokemon Crystal. It rocks and every Pokemaniac should get it!!!...

          Pokemon Ruby
          Made by Nintendo
Age Group: 5 years and up
            Amazon base price: $29.99
            List price: $34.99 (that's 14% off!)
            Used price: $24.35
Buy one from zShops for: $28.99
Pokémon Ruby's updated graphics with weather effects, amazing sound, more than 200 Pokémon with over 100 new species--as well as its faithful adherence to the existing series of Pokémon games--makes for a welcome evolution in the series.

First, the game has a lot in common with Pokémon games Silver, Gold, and Crystal. For example, players can choose to be a boy or a girl trainer, an internal clock sets events at certain times, and you’re the game's handy-dandy Pokédex helps players keep track of the many stats. You're main goal is still to beat all the Gym Trainers and become the Pokémon Master. If you've played the old games, you will be right at home. But not all is the same.

The most obvious change is in the battles themselves. Now that two Pokémon can fight on your side at the same time, you can tag-team them against an enemy by taking advantage of the strengths of your Pokémons while covering their weaknesses. For example, you can now have a water Pokémon watch your fire Pokémon's back. You can also attack more than one Pokémon at a time.

A whole new element to the game focuses on how berries are used in battle. And if you collect enough berries, you can take them to a Berry Blender and make a PokéBlock, which is a little super-charged candy that raises your Pokémon's "Condition" attributes. You can then groom your Pokémon for regional contests and compete for ribbons like "Best of Show," which will unlock additional contests. There's even strategy in how to best use your berries: pick too many and the berry tree will disappear; plant berries, though, and a tree will grow. You can also build a Secret Base in special areas of the game, which you can decorate just like you can your room.

And let us not forget that Pokémon Ruby has a kickin' multiplayer system, too. You can trade Pokémon, and link up to four players for incredible battles. The only downside is that you can't link up with the old Game Boy Color games. --Bryan Karsh

            Pros:

            • You can control two Pokémon in battle
            • Much needed graphic and sound facelift
            • Nice multiplayer feature (requires link cable and extra game cartridge)
            Cons:
            • Can't trade Pokémon with Game Boy Color

            Pokemon 3 - The Truth
In late 1998, Nintendo finally ported its wildly popular Pokemon Game Boy RPGs to America. Though they received little hype at first, the games seemingly became a cultural phenomenon overnight. Two years later sequels were released. Two years after that more sequels was released. Read on to see how they measure up.

            Graphics: 5/5
The overworld graphics outside battle are very well done for this type of game, and the graphics in battle are greatly improved over the first games.

            Play Control: 4.5/5
Very simplistic control, like in most RPGs. It's very easy to learn these controls. Being able to set an item to the select button is a huge convenience.

            Challenge: 3.5/5
It's not very tough to beat all the games trainers, if you train your monsters well. However, hunting down all 251 (approx.) of the Pokemon is the real challenge, as you'll need someone with another version of the game to get them all. This game is compatible with Ruby and Sapphire only, which is inexcusable. That alone costs the game one star.

            Theme/Fun: 3.75/5
Train monsters. Battle them. Trade 'em with friends, and battle your friends. Who would have thought this would be such a successful gaming formula? Frequent battles are sometimes tedious, but if you're an RPG regular you'll more than be prepared for the number of battles you'll face. If you're NOT an RPG regular, the Pokemon series is a good place to start. These games are easy to learn and very fun, too. Unfortunately, the game fails to correct many problems the old games had, so I can't give this category a perfect score.

            Music/Sound: 3.5/5
Very basic music and sound, but a few of the tunes will stick in your mind after you're done playing.

            Storyline: 3.5/5
You leave home on a quest to capture and train monsters, so that you may become the best monster trainer in the world. It's a simple story, but it works.

            Originality: 3.75/5
This is the game's strength. Never before the first Pokemon games had the world seen a game of this type. There would be a number of imitators, but not one would ever match the extremely high quality of this game.

            Overall: 4.25/5
This game's not perfect, but it's still nothing short of excellent. Note that Ruby and Sapphire are the same game, just with different monsters. Whether at home or on the road, Pokemon RPGs are the ultimate time killer for gamers of all ages.

one of the best pokemon games to date.
Yes this game is the old same old same old. Additionally, many of the best features of gold and silver are missing, however the game still stands tall above the rest!

Recommended for anyone who can read! Seriously it is that good.

get's easier further in the game
Okay, first of all I bought a copy of this in late March at Wal-mart. Many of my friends had either Ruby or Sapphire already and I was ready to rejoin the Pokemon games (just the games not the cards and shows) I popped the game into my clear colored GBA and began my adventure throughout the game (luckily I had the game guide with me while I was playing.I decided to pick the water pokemon Mudkip as my starter because soon it evoles into a massive water-ground pokemon that knows Earthquake AKA Swampert. I received all the nessecery equipment before I went on my trek and I had a great time playing. I gave my character the name Jimmy. If you think that sounds absurb then wait til' I tell you that I named myself Barfbag in Silver. I was sort of bummed that I couldn't name my rival and that you only battle your rival about 3 times. Luckily, there's another person that fires up power to the game. His name is Wally and is a timid and sickly boy whom your Dad (the Petalburg City gym leader) asks you to help him catch his first pokemon (Ralts). Wally soon becomes very important to your quest. As I went on I captured pokemon such as Shroomish and Taillow who are now in their late 40's and 50's. I now have 96 pokemon and many of them are evolved because of the wonderful EXP Share which helps them receive experiecnce points without having to put them in battle. The gym leaders aren't as tough as their puzzles surronding the gym, although it took me many times to beat Tate and Lisa. I soon found myself confronting the Elite Four. Team Magma who replaces the worn out Team Rocket and very slick and commanding even though I knock the crud out of them they are still an excellent addition to the game. There's also a little side show entertainment values such as two on two battles and pokemon contests. I don't really want to say moch about thise simply because there isn't much to say. I found Groudon the featured legendary pokemon was difficult to catch but I got him after my 29 ultra ball. I soon went to the Elite Four and I struggled greatly with them but now I've beaten them 26 times! My favorite of the Elite Four is Sidney who sports a mohawk along with a toothy grin and he's veery sly even though he's easy for me. I disliked the champion Steven because he seems very mean and nasty when you talk to him. After the Elite Four I went on to catch more pokemon, battle the Elite Four over 20 times in order to raise my pokemon to highter levels. Then I did stuff like played the slots at the game corner and try to beat the Battle Tower and complete my Pokedex. That's all I have left to say about the game but I am still enjoying it for a great amount. I is truly a game that's worth the wait. Before I go, I'll show you all the pokemon in my party. SWAPERT: level 68 GROUDON: level 81 METAGROSS:level 64 0r maybe 65 GIRAFARIG level 63 RAYQUAZA level 74 and KECLEON level 56.

              Pokemon Sapphire
First of all....The fact that Nintendo made the option to pick a girl or boy at the beginning rocks...and overall it is a fantastic game. The things that bugged me, however, were:
              1. It did not have the time/day feature
              2. The fact that you couldn't trade with older versions was slightly annoying
              3. It takes slightly less time to complete compared to Gold/Silver because of having only one world
              4. The rival in this game is less challenging
              5. The Elite Four/Champ is extremely easy to defeat;I have beaten them 70 times using only a Blaziken and a Kyogre. Any 1 or 2 pokemon that knows Ice Beam and/or Hydro Pump would work if you can't get Kyogre.
              Things that I liked:
1.The legendary pokemon (Kyogre/Groudon and Rayquaza) are extremely strong
2.The trainer cards (even though mine wouldn't change color after winning all 5 categories in the master rank beauty contests)
3.Trainer Eyes that displayed information on the trainers you have fought
4.The new box system for storing pokemon

Note: I am 14 years old, and have been addicted to pokemon since I was 7.

              Twisted Metal: Black

While the Twisted Metal line of vehicular combat games has had uneven episodes, the developers at Incog have thankfully brought the series back in black, and it has never been better. Twisted Metal: Black pushes the envelope in terms of graphics, gameplay, and content. It's a tremendous game, but parents should keep in mind that it carries a Mature rating from ESRB and its content may be unsuitable for younger players. Gamers old enough to handle it will be treated to a must-have game for the PlayStation2.

Twisted Metal: Black is one of the best-looking games on the market. The character design, animations, particle effects, and lighting effects are all topnotch, yet the game still runs at a speedy frame rate--even in multiplayer modes. The game isn't all about looks though, as gameplay is very deep and contains several modes. You'll want to play single-player story mode several times just to see how the game ends for its numerous compelling characters. Each character has a story line that's simple yet captivating. More importantly, each of the characters' vehicles has meaningful differences, so players are bound to find a rig that fits their playing styles.

With its slick gameplay, interesting characters, wide variety of modes, and breathtaking graphics, Twisted Metal: Black is the best vehicular combat game yet, and, so far, the best PlayStation2 game of the year. --Raymond M. Padilla

                Pros:

                • Incredible graphics
                • Deep gameplay
                • Strong replay value
                Cons:
                • Controls can be tricky at first
                • Boss fights can be frustrating

                Dark as night...
I played the Twisted Metal Series all the way up to three. At which point I immediately took the game back to the store and never touched the series again until 989 stopped producing it. In a word this game is breathtaking. Viusally incredible, the levels are huge, interactive, and fun as heck. So the question is why did I rate the game a 3 star? Simple, it wasn't as fun as the first two. I am grateful for the increased AI for the computer opponents. This has to be the most difficult game I have played yet on the PS2. Also, the characters were evened out alot in the sharing of balance of power. It's no longer a game of taking spectre, finding a spot no one can touch you at and then firing off specials till you win. But you have to use strategy and the levels to win. Even in deathmatch mode. No, what i didn't like was the replay value. i got bored of playing it after I had beaten it with the different characters. Playing with my friends, was boring even on the different stages. Sorry just couldn't keep my attention after the initial crush. Hopefully it will claim my attention again if they make it an online experience like the back of the instruction booklet/journal claims.

SCREW THE M RATING GET THIS GAME IF U HAVE PS2
This game is one of the best PS2 games PS2 has alot of game but most of em suck this game is great graphics (graphics are bad but are the best for ps2 since ps2 has bad graphics) This game is great for multiplayer ITS Rated M for one reason the Movies are creepy this game has NO blood so this game aint all bad get this game if you love racing with fighting.

                This game rocks
Notice I said "rocks" and not "is gonna rock" ... where people get off reviewing a game they haven't played yet is a bit beyond me. Twisted Metal Black banishes the horrid controls of the latter installments into the video game netherworld and brings back the glorious carnage of the earlier games. The three controller configurations should please pretty much everyone...I prefer using the directional pad over the analog stick so "Control Freak" works for me. Tight turns, sudden stops, and driving in reverse present no problem whatsoever. An excellent balance is struck where the different vehicles and weapons are concerned. Spectre and Axel seem to be a little more bothersome than the others, but no one character constantly dominates. The weapons, both character-specific and pick-up, are all useful and replenish themselves fairly quickly (a good thing, since your machine gun can get overheated). Some require a bit of practice to use, but most players won't have much difficulty getting the hang of them. The "special" manuevers aren't hard to pull off and, mercifully, you can no longer get away with repeatedly freezing a foe and hitting them with everything you've got while they can't do anything. The same goes for your enemies; the computer scrupulously keeps track of their energy gauges and does not allow them to cheat. TMB boasts a good selection of interactive arenas in which to do battle. Usually, in video games, "interactive" means that there's maybe one or two objects in the entire stage that can be destroyed or altered in some way. Not so here! If something looks like you could wreck it by driving a car into it in real life, you can probably do it here, too, especially in the huge Suburbs stage, where just about EVERYTHING you see is fair game for destruction (look for the ferris wheel). You might get so carried away causing property damage and running over pedestrians, you lose track of what your adversaries are up to...

The framerate is smooth as silk; I have yet to experience any sort of slowdown. Anyone here ever played WipeOut 3 for PlayStation? If so, then you know how smooth IT is. Well, after playing TMB for a while, I decided to do a little WipeOut 3 (a game I never get tired of) and, by comparison, it seemed so choppy I thought my TV was being shaken like a can of paint in a hardware store. It's that smooth. Much has been made of the dark atmosphere of this game, and rightly so. Bright colors are rare, stories are warped, and the developers spared us another Rob Zombie soundtrack and created a supremely fitting original score. The music in this game sounds like something you'd hear in a modern Hollywood action movie (a GOOD one). TMB is one of the few games outisde of the role-playing and survival horror genres where the mood really grabs you. The only other games I can think of that can compete with it in terms of dark atmosphere are Deception III and the two Legacy of Kain games (Blood Omen and Soul Reaver). My gripes with the game are minimal; Mr. Slam doesn't return, Minion is a real pain, and the detonators are gone (remember blowing up the Eifel Tower in TM2?). Aside from that, I see dearth of reason to give TMB anything less than a five-star rating. This is truly a must-own game, in every sense of that overused term.

                Sony PSOne Console
                Made by Sony Computer Entertainment

If the original PlayStation was the video game console equivalent of the '60s-era Volkswagen Beetle--economic, reliable, loads of fun--the PS One could be considered the new Beetle--a hip restyling of those same qualities.

Make no mistake: the PS One has all of the same functionality as the original PlayStation workhorse, will work with all of the same peripherals and accessories, and will play the existing PlayStation game library, as well as audio CDs (also note that, like the original PlayStation, it's not compatible with the more advanced PlayStation 2). The difference here is that this new model is quite a bit smaller than its older brother, and quite a bit cuter, too.

The system is made up of a 32-bit, 34-MHz RISC processor with 16 Mbits of main memory, 8 Mbits of graphics memory, 24-channel stereo sound, double-speed CD-ROM drive, and one Dual Shock analog controller. That's not a lot of power, compared to a next-generation system like the Sega Dreamcast; but, when you factor in its very low price and the enormous library of games that are available (more than 1,000 that are spread across every genre imaginable), one can see easily why it's as good a deal as ever. If rumors of exciting future accessories for the PS One (a four-inch LCD screen attachment, to name one) are true, this little machine could become a great option for the on-the-go gamer. --Porter Hall

                  "Whenever, wherever, forever"
The most popular video game system since the original 8-bit Nintendo, Sony's new re-styled PSOne game console is a sight to behold as it's even smaller the minute Sega Dreamcast, and with the LCD screen (which is sold seperately) this is just as great a portable system as the GameBoy Advance. Not to mention the PSOne is the perfect system to introduce new gamers to (even though there are loads of Mature rated games, there are plenty of kid friendly games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon). Featuring a library of over 1,000 games (all are affordable), most of which can be found at any game retailer, spanning any and every genre. Even though any PSOne game's graphics can't compare to any of the 128 bit juggernauts, the gameplay of many of the games (like the Final Fantasy and Tony Hawk series) is still fresh. Below is a list of essential games for the PSOne that are still as enjoyable today as they were a few years ago:

                  Metal Gear Solid
                  Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
                  Final Fantasy VII
                  Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
                  Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
                  Twisted Metal 2
                  Tekken 3
                  Gran Turismo
                  Silent Hill
                  Resident Evil 2
                  Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

                  PS1 is great!!
This is probebly the best and simpist gaming system I have ever used!! Other systems like ps2 and Xbox can sometimes get too complecated. Ps1 has lots of great games, plays cd's, and has an anti shocking system which is great. The graphics are awsome!!

THE GREATEST GAME THAT EVER LIVED!
This game's instruction manual is a map of the game's world. Naughty dog out did them selves with the details. The details are amazing because ther so yery detailed with all the colores and landscapes and with 17 areas and vehicles, characters and creatures and even a secrt movie. Yup from geyser rock to the dark eco silo jak and daxter is the greatest game everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

                    Funny and Entertaining
There really isn't that much to tell about Jak and Daxter for the PS2. The whole thing is pretty straight forward. The two are off on a Lurker inhabited island where they shouldn't be and this is where Daxter undergoes his transformation and the adventure begins.

The two must travel to find a sage who may be able to change Daxter back to normal. During their journey, the pair must collect tons of Precursor Orbs that are primarily used to be traded to other people for Power Cells, which are essential to their travels. Punching, spinning and jumping are the skills that will help you defeat your enemies. "Eco" is also a main part of the game. Some Eco will increase your movement and fighting abilities, strength or health. The downside is that the Eco effects are temporary, so you must be quick and decisive depending on how much you absorb.

The overall graphics are very nice and you will appreciate them in different environments such as, snow, lava, jungles, beaches and more.

The game play itself is relatively easy and you won't ever have to worry about "Game Over" from dying. You're also able to save at any point you choose. The enemies are not that hard, but the bosses are where the real fun and challenges are. The comedy and the dialogue are very well done by all the characters. To sum it up, I would recommend this only to gamers who are in the mood for a relaxing and fun game; nothing too aggravating or complex. What's refreshing about this title is it's overall simplicity. It won't take you too long to beat either if you go at it. Look elsewhere if you want deep and twisting plots and difficult game play. To the rest of you, give this one a try and have fun.

Easily one of the best games ever made
Jak and Daxter... is an amazingly sweet game! Being brought to you by Naughty Dog, the creators of the Crash Bandicoot series(that doesn't even COMPARE to Jak and Daxter), you know it will be an amazing game. The graphics will amaze you and the voice acting is perfect! There are no loading times either! It is very fun and entertaining and some parts are actually funny. It's fun to go around collecting all the power cells and riding around on the A-Grav Zoomer is fun! Just riding that is better than buying Grand Turismo 3(which sucked by the way)! There are nearly infinite possibilities on creating strings of amazing combos with many different moves and attacks! All the strings are incredibly smooth while looking somewhat choppy in other games. Jak himself is 4 times more polygons than an entire screen in Crash! While you're waiting for Final Fantasy X, pick this game up! It's so good you might want to take a break from X to play it! Though doubtful. Buy this game it is a must have for any gamer!
