Lincoln Logs Gold Mine Express
Made by K'NEX
Age Group: 5 - 11 years
    Amazon base price: $24.99
    List price: $39.99 (that's 38% off!)
The Gold Mine Express--packed with railroad accessories and three small action figures--will keep kids occupied for hours. They can place Engineer Bob in harm's way, then have Sheriff Sam save the day by capturing Bad Bart and saving the train from an explosion. With all of the Lincoln Logs and structures that come in the set, the story is likely to pan out in several ways. A faux explosives detonator, bank building, corral, and mountain tunnel are included, for role-playing details. There's even a lever on a piece of track that makes Bad Bart's horse buck him off, and a mountain rock that opens for Bart to stash his gold in. The included three-car train--the set's centerpiece--features an engine, car, and caboose. When playtime is over, everything goes back into the kit's red container--itself shaped like a train engine--which also transforms into a station stop on the railroad. The toy includes small parts; not for children under 3 years. --Diane Beall

All Aboard for the Lincoln Log Express!
My husband and I bought this as a Christmas present for our 4 year old son, who plays well by himself and has a good imagination. Today is January 17th and he and his 6 year old sister have played with this every day since Christmas. I showed both of them how to build the bridge that you can "blow up" and they love it. They have built the track different ways and love playing with the horses and building different buildings. I especially love it because this toy doesn't need any batteries, is very sturdy -- surprise, the pieces are still made of wood! -- and the track fits together easily. I recommend this toy highly as a great gift for boys or girls. We have already bought another one as a gift for our nephews.

A great, easy to use train set for young engineers!
My son and I play trains a lot. We have other little kids' sets and this one is by far the easiest for little hands to use. The trains stay on the track and they're easy to couple together. We love this set. As an added bonus, little wooden trains like Thomas fit on the inside rim of this track, so they can run on it too.

My three-year-old is thrilled with this.
My first impulse was to skip this one because we already have so many Thomas trains and tracks. But when my three and five-year-olds saw this, their excitement level was very high. We ended up buying it for the 3-year-old, and have no regrets. Firstly, it was on sale for [cheap], which was a great deal. He has played with it for days now, mostly with the train and track. In truth, they have fought over it a fair amount. And they both enjoyed the lincoln log structures too, but I had to build them. I like that aspect because they aren't finished exploring this toy.

    Mech Warrior Mad Cat
    Made by K'NEX
      Amazon base price: $29.99
Fans of the K'NEX building system can fast-forward to the battlefield of the 31st century with this 14-inch model of a Mad Cat robot fighter. Even better: after it has been built, and then either blown to smithereens or sat on by the family dog, it can be rebuilt into the Avatar war machine--or, of course, an infinite number of other creations. Detailed instructions (wordless and color coded) are included for the Mad Cat and Avatar. Approximately 350 pieces; recommended for ages 10 and over. --Richard Farr

      Durrrr
I'll start with the Mad Cat. It's very durable (I've thrown it against the wall a few times and nothing happened), moves easily and in the proper positions, and the general look and shape is very much like that in the game(s). As for the Avatar, it's also durable. Easier to handle the foam missile launcher since it's on a swiveling arm. Also very durable (again, throwing it against the wall), and looks very much alike to the real thing. The two problems would be the size of the Mad Cat's missile racks (they're really tiny) and the thickness of the Avatar's arm mounts. The Mad Cat's one of my all-time favourite 'Mechs, so it's fun to play with. What would be really REALLY cool is if they came out with a Nova Cat! But perhaps I'm just being too hopeful. ;)

      5 outta 5
this toy is the greatest. I bought it with my birthday from toys r us and it was awesome. It took me 2 hrs. to build (which is why i gave it 5 stars for educational value) and that is awesome how you put it together because i also collect bionicles and they are built basicly the same. It is very durable except you kinda have to pust the plastic paper thingys on pretty good but its no hassle. I,ve only gotten one but I hope I get cauldron born from my grandma for christmas.

      Althogh your pics are incorrect...
This toy is not appropriate for children who like to rip thier toys apart and then lose the peices and are never able to find them again, however this toy is suited perfectly for those who want to rip their toys apart, but are able to rebuild them. this is not good for collecters as the toys hardly bear any resemblence to their 'real' counterparts. I would also like it noted that the 'mech shown in the pictures exepting the last two is that of another 'mech entirely, the Avatar, and the picure is taken from the rear of the 'mech.

Finally something that will keep my ADHD son occupied!
It has been a constant battle to find something my 11 year old will play with by himself other than video games. We bought this yesterday, and he has already played with it for several hours! He likes building the ideas in the book and also making his own creations. The recommended age listed here is 6-10 years, but on the packing of the box the ages are 7-14 years. There are 3 skill levels - Friendly Challenge, Moderate Challenge, and Greater Challenge. The instruction book has 4 Friendly models, 9 Moderate models, and 17 Greater models. At 11 years old, the Friendly models are a little too easy for him, and the Greater models are a bit challenging without adult help (I'm sure he'll get better at it in no time though), but the Moderate models are perfect for him. He has an incredibly short attention span, but he has been content to work on this longer than he ever has with anything else, so I hope this will spill over into other areas of his life, especially school.

Kids and Parents both will love these!!!!!
My children are 9 and 7. We have had K'nex for 3 years now and my kids are still playing with them!!! Whenever my neices and nephews come over the first toys out are the K'nex. These toys are great for both boys and girls. They spark children's imagination and keep them busy for hours. I honestly was skeptical when I first bought them. I thought they would be like a puzzle, use them once and then toss them aside. Boy was I wrong. Whenever my boys go shopping with me they have to look at the new K'nex to see what they don't have. I highly recommend them. But please be wary when you have babies. The pieces are small and a baby can choke on them. Other than that they are a great family bonding toy. Parents, you can even play with them too. They are highly addictive.

        TERRIFIC TOY
THIS IS THE BEST TOY MY 8 & 10 YEAR OLDS GOT FOR CHRISTMAS. THEY HAVE PLAYED WITH IT FOR HOURS -TOGETHER! THE PIECES AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE EASY TO USE AND VERY ADAPTABLE. WE ALSO BOUGHT A MOTERIZED SET THAT CAN BE USED WITH THE LARGER SET TO MAKE MOTERIZED TOYS. THE BOX SERVES AS A STURDY PLACE TO STORE THE PIECES- A PLUS FOR ME SINCE PUTTING IT AWAY IS EASIER FOR THE KIDS.
        BUY THESE TOYS!

Most played with toy we own
My 7 year old son got this set for Christmas last year, and with all the toys we have for our 5 kids, this K'nex set gets the most use. He built with it every day for months, and still builds something new about every week with it. He has built about every model in the book and he is getting better at building his own ideas. We've gotten a lot of the models on video tape, and he loves to show his grandparents the new ones. I loved the sea turtle that "walked" across the floor, and he builds amusement park rides and puts little people in them. This thing keeps him busy for hours at a time, and he's getting another tub of them for his birthday. His little brother wants one for his birthday this year. The motor is very cool, and he figures out how to use it with the models that don't call for it. Since Christmas, he has only broken 2 pieces, so I thought that was pretty good. Highly recommended!

          I love K'NEX
I have had a KNEX set for 10 years or so. My daughter has always been envious of mine, and I don't let the kids play with it. She received money for christmas and bought this set. She has had a lot of fun putting together the models, however there are a couple of models in the book that there aren't quite enough pieces to build. If this were the only set in the house, it would be very disappointing to get as far as she did, then have to disassemble and start with another project.

          Lincoln Logs Grizzly Canyon
          Made by K'NEX
          Age Group: 36 months - 7 years
            Amazon base price: $16.99
The Grizzly Canyon Lookout is a 66-piece Lincoln Log playset that makes a little ranger station with a lookout tower. Set includes 57 logs, two windows, opening and closing door with frame, slanted roof, lookout tower with roof, flag, and friendly grizzly bear and ranger play figures. Parents can rest assured that Lincoln Log sets are every bit as much fun as they always were, and are still made with easy-fitting, durable real wood logs and plastic pieces. Grizzly Canyon Lookout can be combined with other Lincoln Log sets to create larger scenes. This is a toy that encourages imagination, tactile development, and shape recognition (and besides that, it's just plain fun). Be warned, however: small parts may present a choking hazard to children under 3 years. --Chris Livesay

            Create your own scene!
I strted using these when I was like 5 or so (now I'm 11). I liked them most to use the various pieces to recreate battles from the civil war and whatnot (I actually used the little ones for men- several different sets allow me to distinguish what side people were on). Now I'm a bit more creative, stacking 2 on top of each other to represent calvary or space ships, and creating huge fortesses to house my battles in. I have at least 3 large sets, and a total of over 600 peices; I never actually counted them. I think it is a great gift to any youngster, and imagination can keep it intesting for years to come.

Back from My Childhood - Now to My Son
My son received this Lincoln Log set along with others for Christmas Last year (age 6). I remembered the go ole days playing for hours, putting together these pieces. My son, is less thrilled in having to put them piece by piece togther. He liked the ideas of the models enclosed on packages, got frustrated when he was unable to complete the various styles. Once with a little help, placing the pieces as illustrations showed, he was very pleased with playing with the sets combined, making a little town. These Lincoln Log sets are a good way to help your childs confindence in their ability to create something of their own design. My son, rarely will pull out his Linclon Logs. When he does they are all emptied in one large pile on the floor and he builds what his imagination desires. In a years time, they have had more closet time than play time but, we like for our kids to play with the toys we did as children. ~

                great fun!
I bought this KNEX for my 7 year old son, and he was almost able to do this by himself! Every now and then, you have to really pay attention to the directions, but if you do, you'll get a great roller-coaster! The two motors make this one excitingly fast! There are two other rollercoasters to be built ( drawings available online) so the fun lasts quite a while...

Jack's best roller coaster toy ever!
Hi I'm only 5 years old, and I am a huge roller coaster fan! After trying to convince my parents to get me this for Christmas, my Grandpa finally came through for me ...thank goodness. He and my uncle and my dad all helped me to build it. It took us about one week a few minutes at a time. I love it because it has a really steep hill and a really little hill and makes a big turn. It is super fast! (...)

                  building imagination
My son has had this for a year and plays with it all the time. His imagination has really developed while playing with these. The creations he comes up with make him and us very proud. I think any kid boy or girl would benefit by playing with k'nex.

                  Had before
I remember I had this when I was about 12 and I am 18 now. I see the newer models out and think they're a waste because you could just buy this 400 piece set that has detailed instructions. I easily made many amusement park rides with this. Plus, it doesn't limit the kid's imagination. It's a great value.

                    best mechwarrior model I got
This mech is awesome, it can pack a punch, and take the abuse. If you want a 'quick buid' model, but if you want a model to keep you buisy get this one, the Shadow cat, and Mad cat. Also kudos to knex, for they have the idea to have instructions to build 2 mechs.

P.S. I don,t like the owens at all. Bad weapons decent speed and worse armor make it a quick kill (not a quick killer, a quick kill)

                    The Owens is better
The Cauldron Born is not as good looking as the Owens.

                    Review
It's really cool and the kids love, it although it's not that educational.

Christmas present that doesn't stay in the closet
My 4-year-old has enjoyed these so much. He has the Roving Rollers and the Building Buddies sets. He can look at the pictures in the "building book" and make many of them all by himself. He has created his own "mosquito" and "cartwheel man" with help from his big sister, who is almost seven, and loves these toys, too. This is the kind of toy that will not end up in the bottom of the closet!!!

Wow--A Toy the Kid Will Play With
Legos, Duplos, Ello.. they don't hold a candle to the Kid Knex in the series. Unbelieveable how much our 6 year old daughter plays with these and our 3 YO son too. These have a good feel for kids too. Bright. Easy to use. We have all in set now. BRING ON SOME MORE!

FABULOUS!! (3 1/2 year old loves it!!!)
Comes with great "directions" - a booklet simply depicting many ways to build creatures (by just showing pictures of completed creatures). Our son could easily replicates these creatures and is really into it! Considering the many toys he has, this is a unique one which he plays with again and again! :)
