Rok Works Start Set
Made by Rokenbok
Age Group: 6 - 10 years
    Amazon base price: $79.99
    List price: $99.99 (that's 20% off!)
The Rok Works Start Set combines puzzle solving, model building, remote-control vehicle operation, and gameplay into a complete and completely unique experience. The first step is to build your construction site with the snap-together modular pieces provided. This is an absorbing, fun activity in itself, since the pieces allow for such open-ended, creative design: be as straightforward or Rube Goldbergesque as you like. Then it's time to rev up your construction machine and guide it around the site with the handy, video-game style controller. You can navigate under bridges, pick up loads of colored balls, and drop them off at the conveyor belt that will take them up to the network of tunnels (which you’ve built yourself) that will in turn carry them wherever you like. Unlike most radio-controlled vehicles which, once you get past the novelty factor, there isn't all that much for them to do, here there's plenty of action and adventure, limited only by kids’ imaginations. --David Stoesz

    Best Purchase I made
I bought this item for my 8y son last christmas, he is still playing with it faithfully and has even saved up his money to expand on the product. He loves it. This year santa is expanding on his set. If you have a child who seems to get bored with toys easy, then this is the toy for you, you'll never regret getting it.

    A parent's dream!!!
As a person with a background in engineering, I feel somewhat qualified to write a review on this product. This toy is engaging, creative, non-destructive and non-violent. On top of that, it's one of the few that you may actually find yourself addicted too as well! What more could a parent ask for?

A cross between Legos, model trains and remote control vehicles it is an intoxicating mix of motion and construction that most children find hard to put down.

It begins with the purchase of the The Works or Monorail Start Set. After spending a little time (about an hour) to put the set together according to the plans, you'll spend much more time scooping up the little balls with your remote control trucks and placing them into the conveyor, where they are lifted through a series of chutes into dispensers to repeat the process.

But that's not the best part. As your set begins to grow, your children can do many more things - all of which seem to engage the child more. The RC Elevator, Down-A-Vator, Construction World, and other vehicles and sets add immensely to the enjoyment.

I give the product a slightly reduced durability rating as my 6 year old managed to break one of the tabs attached to one of the chutes during normal construction, but to Rokenbok's credit they have a lifetime no questions asked replacement guarantee for any piece.

All in all as your set grows expect to spend $500+ on it depending on how big or tall you wish to go, but it is durable enough for most children and will last their entire childhood if played with correctly.

    Remote Control Power Sweeper
    Made by Rokenbok
      Amazon base price: $64.99
This is one of Rokenbok's cooler wireless-controlled trucks. Equipped with a foam roller up front, it can suck up Rokenbok balls, depositing them in its rear compartment for later dumping. (Powered control requires a command deck and one control pad, sold separately.) The Power Sweeper includes a driver and 20 balls. The Rokenbok construction system, of which this set is a part, incorporates a vast array of snap-together construction modules, as well as radio-controlled vehicles and other snazzy motorized widgets. With a central control module, it's possible to remotely command up to eight different machines using either one or multiple handsets. Cleverly designed radio controls steer and move a very responsive vehicle and are quickly interchangeable between vehicles. Detailed building plans are included, though they are not as easy to follow as you might hope. The constructed sets are probably too fragile for use around younger siblings but are endlessly expandable. --Richard Farr

      The best Rokenbok Vehicle
This is by far the most popular Rokenbok vehicle in our family. It picks up the most balls (and does it well). Then you can dump the balls in a dump truck style or run the sweeper backwards to unload part of the balls. Lots of options for playtime fun.

      Happy six year old boy
I bought this for my son's sixth birthday. He loves it and it works very well. His 8 year old sister likes it a lot, too.
Just be sure that you purchase the required remote to go with it!

        Rokenbok System Bridges & Roadways
        Made by Rokenbok
          Amazon base price: $49.99
Three different featured bridges--plus others you design--can be constructed from this collection of decks, girders, ramps, and footings. The decks are compatible with Lego and Mega-Bloks. The whole package fits right into the larger Rokenbok construction universe, which incorporates a vast array of snap-together construction modules, as well as radio-controlled vehicles and other snazzy motorized widgets. With a central control module, it's possible to remotely command up to eight different machines using either one or multiple handsets. Cleverly designed radio controls steer and move a very responsive vehicle using only one thumb for control and are quickly interchangeable between vehicles. Detailed building plans are included, though they are not as easy to follow as you might hope. A toy for future engineers...
This is a great abstract toy, that involves visualization and planning. I think it's fun, durable AND mentally stimulating. It takes deep thinking to be an architect, or a structural engineer. I know, because I am one.

Fun, but not the best Rokenbok component
I bought this for my kids (...) It came with a broken chute and was missing two black pieces. I exchanged it for another set, and the next one also had a broken chute piece. The little yellow plastic tab that attaches to the building grids just doesn't seem durable enough. The regular building pieces are extremely sturdy.

We love Rokenbok, and have not had any problems with any of the other sets, but this particular set seems jinxed and I cannot recommend it.

            Fun, after I fixed it....
It took me several days to get this one working -- no matter what I used to power it, it just couldn't seem to lift itself.

After disassembling it a few times, I noticed that the housing wasn't holding the motor securely and this was apparently allowing the worm gear on the motor to slip off the gear next to it. To fix it, you just need to lay something on the motor before you put the housing back on -- I used a piece of tissue folded many times over. This will keep the motor firmly in place when it's trying to lift the elevator.

Ever since, it's worked flawlessly and my kids really enjoy it.

            Lift Struggles
When I saw that the average rating was 4.5 stars I thought I'm the only one having problems with this thing. But when I read the other reviews everyone said they had problems with this. Our family loves Rokenbok and all the available options but I think this is one accessory to stay away from. It just doesn't work well and goes through batteries.

            Rokenbok System Control Pad
            Made by Rokenbok
              Amazon base price: $29.99
Each Rokenbok command deck (included in Rokenbok starter sets) will support up to four of these Control Pads. To avoid squabbles, one pad is needed for each player--but any one pad can control up to eight vehicles. These cleverly designed handsets steer and move a very responsive vehicle using only one thumb for control and are quickly interchangeable between vehicles. The Rokenbok construction system, of which the Control Pad is a key part, incorporates a vast array of snap-together construction modules, as well as radio-controlled vehicles and other snazzy motorized widgets. You can create a loading zone in which one truck dumps plastic balls into a hopper; a freight elevator raises them into a chute, and you can then dump the balls into a second truck by reversing it with a switch. Detailed building plans are included, though they are not as easy to follow as you might hope. The constructed sets are probably too fragile for use around younger siblings but are endlessly expandable. --Richard Farr

              Rokenbok Controller
My Son and Daughter love playing with Rokenbok. We made sure we got an extra controller so both could play simultaneously.

              Need one for each operator
When you order a Rokenbok vehicle, you might need to order a control pad too. You can plug up to 4 of these into the command deck, but each controller can switch between controlling 8 different Rokenbok vehicles.
However, if you're buying one of these to replace a broken one, wait! These have a lifetime warrenty, so contact Rokenbok and they'll fix you right up!

Rokenbok System Remote Control Emergency Speeder
              Made by Rokenbok

Seven inches long and wireless-controlled, it includes two men, two barricades, and four orange cones. (Powered control requires command deck and control pad, sold separately.) The Rokenbok construction system, of which this set is a part, incorporates a vast array of snap-together construction modules, as well as radio-controlled vehicles and other snazzy motorized widgets. A speedy little bugger
I have just recently found Rokenbok in a store and absolutely love these things. I'm 26 but bought everything primarily for my nephew (at least that is what I am telling everyone). This vehicle is nice and fast but I prefer the sweeper and loader because they actually pick up the balls. The nice thing about the speedster is when you have an accident, it can race over to the scene. We even use it to push another vehicle that may be stuck. I would recommend getting some other vehicles first that can actually do more, but get this one eventually because it is fun to drive around.

                Every Kid Should Have One
It's cool-looking, and I like the siren, and it has cool-looking guys. It even comes with cones and fences for obstacle courses. I love playing with it!

Rokenbok System Remote Control Skip Track
                Made by Rokenbok
                  Amazon base price: $59.99
Please back away from the vehicle--the Rokenbok RC Skip Track is preparing to unload! This 6-inch white plastic marvel comes with a driver and 10 red and blue grooved balls for cargo. It requires a Rokenbok RC unit, which must be purchased separately; once you have the control, it's easy to maneuver the Skip Track around the playroom floor, lift its payload high or low, and release cargo with precision. The tough black rubber treads provide excellent traction on smooth surfaces, the driver is posable and looks great inside his protective cage, and the vehicle itself is a cool addition to your Rokenbok construction set. --Rob Lightner

Maybe the most frustrating member of my son's "fleet"
My parents just bought my son (six, almost seven) an array of Rokenbok stuff, including this skip track loader.

Like the other vehicles, this one is extremely agile, and the radio controller works phenomenally. The track/treads let this loader go all over the ramps and decks, where some of the wheeled vehicles fear to tread (also nice that the balls don't easily get stuck underneath, requiring a "hand" to get going again).

However, actually loading any balls in the front bucket is quite difficult. It took me about half an hour f practice to be able to get even one or two balls to stay in, and my son has yet to get the hang of it. Mildly frustrating for him, but not to the point where he doesn't want to play with the set. On the bright side, the vehicles are all pretty durable, and the tank-style treads give this loader quite an advantage in any "Robot Wars"-style battles that may happen between players and their vehicles. [Yes, I know that's probably not in the spirit of cooperation and peaceful creation of a construction set, but it *is* fun!]

Even though mastering the loader is a bit hard, I still recommend it (at least if you want to be able to tip over the other trucks!).

                  The World's Greatest Toy?
These little robots if you will are possibly the best toy I have ever seen in my life. The toys provide hours of fun and excitement. It would be a very big mistake to miss out on these toys. They make excellent Christmas and birthday gifts. So please do your kids a favor and by them their first Rokenbok Start Set today. Even you grown-ups and parents will love these little high tech machines.

                    Lots of fun
Added this and the sweeper to our Rokenbok collection and it was a hit. Everyone wanted to "be" the forklift. Already had the warehouse from the crane set so this made a cool mini-warehouse. Very easy to control and the action of the lift is really neat. Also apparently the big red circle with the slash through it on the box that indicates no base station & controller, the "Plus Any Start Set" on the bottom, or the list of what's included in the box are not clear enough for adults not visually impaired, so FYI there isn't a controller or base station included with the forklift. Oh, and no batteries either :)

                    rc forklift
I got the rcforklift for Christmas I love it. I like how it can take the containers off the racks. I also have the Rok works starter set and the monarail. When you put them together it makes it funer becuse you can dump the balls that you pickup from the dozer and put them in the containers. some times the forklift will stop and you have to shake it other than that i give it five stars.

                    Radio Control Elevator
                    Made by Rokenbok
                      Amazon base price: $79.99
Using Rokenbok's multiplayer Command Deck wireless remote system (sold separately), this industrial elevator can lift bulldozers, forklifts, or even monorail cars right on the track. Part of Rokenbok's interactive, remote-control toy system, this 61-piece set lets you construct a 14-inch-high elevator that snaps into any Rokenbok environment. Just clip the radio control key into the platform, and you can raise and lower vehicles with your control pad. You can drive any Radio Control vehicle onto the 5-inch-wide-by-13.5-inch-long deck, or snap in a foot-long piece of track to accommodate monorail vehicles. And, in case you need a hand, a 2.5-inch-tall posable plastic elevator operator stands at the ready. --Paul Hughes
