Classic Pit Tin
Made by Winning Moves
    Amazon base price: $15.99
It's hard to believe that market trading has survived almost unchanged 100 years after the boisterously fun game of Pit was introduced by Parker Brothers. Yet the Classic Pit Tin still captures the flavor of making deals faster and faster, louder and louder, until the ring of the bell announces the first successful cornering of the market. The cards are sturdy, the artwork is lovely, the rules are simple, and the game is wild. Put it in an attractive tin and you've got a winner. --Rob Lightner

    Everybody loves it!!!!
After I discovered Pit from a friend, I went online and ordered my own. It has been the best party game ever!!! I bring it over to a friend's house or take it on a trip, and everybody wants to play. All my friends are now addicted to it. It also is a good way to see the futures market at work.

    Fast paced, adictive game
The rules are straightforward and easy to learn, the pace can pick up very quickly making this game loads of fun- also the more people the better!

    A Great Time for All
This is a very fun game. It can get quite loud when you play. The object is to collect every card of one kind by blind trading. Everyone is trading at one time so it can be loud. O.K. it WILL be loud. Now every time people come over, they want to play Pit. I wish I got a comission for all the people who went out and bought it after they played at our house. I'm giving some as gifts for Christmas because they are hard to find in the stores.

      Very addictive!
Tetris DX is a very fun game! You will be addicted to it in no time! There are many different things you can do to change the game settings. For example, you can change the music. You can also change the level you are on yourself, although I wouldn't recommend doing it until after you have become a very good player. There also many game modes you can play in, like 40 Lines, on which you have to get 40 lines without your blocks hitting the top, Marathon, on which you just keep going and going and going until your blocks hit the top, or Ultra, where you see how good you can do, except you only have 3 minutes to do so. The computer also keeps track of your best records and displays them when you are choosing your level. Tetris DX is an absolutely terrific game! I would recommend it to anybody! You'll have a lot of fun playing it. Thank you for reading my review. I hope it helped.

      Great Tetris Game!
I have both this game AND Tetris Worlds for Game Boy Advance, And I love them both as much as the other. Tetris worlds my not have a Battery Back-up, but it more than makes up for that with the extremely fun game variations and the classic tetris Music.
Tetris DX DOES Have a battery, but it's just basic tetris. I'm able to score at least 400,000 points regularly, so every time I top out I have to put up with that annoying rocket launch sequence, wheras with Tetris Worlds, when you top out, you can start the next game right away without having to put up with annoying rocket sequences. the bottom line: went I want to play Classic Tetris, I play Tetris DX. when I want Enhanced graphics and effects and Nostalgic Music, I play Tetris Worlds

        Learning Tool
I'm 14 and got this game when I was younger. I was struggling a little with math until I got this game. It helped me realize color and number patterns in such a fun way that I didn't even notice it! Since then I've been playing it at least once a week. I tutor young children and for those with math problems, I use the Uno game as a fun and educational tool. Parents have come to me and congratulated me with the successfullness of it. Its the ultimate game in a compact size. The cards last for a pretty long time. I've had one deck for the past 3 years and its still in tip top shape! So for anyone who plans to buy it, it's definately the RIGHT CHOICE!!!!

        GREAT GAME LOADS OF FUN
I love this game. It is a great family game though it might cause
a few arguments or break-ups(aaaaah! just kidding). Don't let this happen. It's just a game like any other game. You're just having fun. That's the No. 1 reason for playing any game with children or adults to have fun. Hey, How would like to be given 4 draw 4 cards????? get the picture???? Another good point, NEVER GIVE UP SO EASY,ITS NEVER OVER TILL IT'S OVER,comebacks
can happen. MY father-in-law was shut out, while I just needed 1 point to win(499 points to 0 4 or 5 of us were playing)and he came back and beat us with 500 points. Play this fantastic card game and see what I mean. Buy it and I hope you'll enjoy it too.

        Yahtzee Deluxe Edition
        Made by Milton Bradley
          Amazon base price: $15.99
Yahtzee has been called America's favorite dice game and, with tattered boxes closeted in homes across the nation, that claim is not hard to believe. Put five dice in a shaker, mix in strategy, add luck, stir--then let the fun begin! So how do you improve on something this good? By sprucing it up. Yahtzee Deluxe is aglitter with sparking dice, a velvet-lined playing tray, a sturdy cushioned shaker that has the feel of soft leather, and detailed score cards that make totaling points easier than ever. The detailed instruction booklet even includes a section on the history of dice. The plush playing surface is set inside a light plastic frame that seems a trifle small, but this is a minor complaint. As a handsome replacement for an old, faded game, or a brand-new source of family fun, Yahtzee Deluxe offers the same excitement that has been entertaining players since it was first released in 1956. --George Laney

          The best Yahtzee ever!
This is a great value and we have enjoyed many hours entertainment from this simple FUN game.

          YAHTZEE IS AN ENDURABLE CLASSIC!
Yahtzee is one of my two all-time FAVORITE games. Everyone knows the educational value for children, the fun and conversation it inspires...but there's so much more to Yahtzee. Although luck has something to do with Yahtzee, skill and cunning also play an important part. Also, Yahtzee can be as competitive as you'd LIKE it to be (ante up!). It also is a game that will inspire very warm and wonderful memories. I will always remember my two late uncles' weekly Yahtzee nights. They were very close brothers but, in adulthood, the constraints of family and responsibilities did not allow them to spend much time together alone...until they established their weekly Yahtzee night! They would play for hours on end to the sounds of the dice shaking and spilling, the mild cussing, the laughter and smiles! I carry it with me wherever I go and, inevitably, a routine visit becomes a Yahtzee PARTY! New friends, laughter and fun...how can you beat a combination like that (unless it's a five-of-a-kind YAHTZEE)!!!!!

An ingenious blend of strategy and luck
Perhaps the most brilliant (and educational) aspect of Yahtzee is that players learn about probability without even knowing it. Yahtzee is played with five dice that players roll (up to three times, picking up any of the five for a re-roll) in an attempt to fill out different categories on their score cards. 3 and 4-of-a-kind, short and long straights, and so on. The more you play the more you gain an intuitive feel for which are easy and which are difficult to make. You learn about the disparities between the points a particular category pays and its difficulty to obtain with the dice. You learn to plan for different outcomes and to change your plans on the fly, in response to the dice rolls.

But the beauty of Yahtzee is that all of this calculating takes a back seat to the fun of rolling the dice, filling out the scorecard and finding yourself absorbed by the drama that unfolds with each game. It's a brilliant balance that, magically, never gets old. Perhaps it's the simiplicity, perhaps it's the nearly infinite variety of games - whatever, it marks Yahtzee as one of a handful of classic games.

The deluxe edition adds a touch of class to the proceedings, providing handsome gold sparkle dice, a felt lined dice cup (which makes shaking the dice just a notch more special), and a small felt-lined stadium to roll the dice into. The latter, while gratifying in its own way, is perhaps slightly less thrilling than rolling the dice into the top part of the cardboard box and hearing them clatter against the sides.

Yahtzee can be played by a wide variety of ages. It can be played competitively against others, or simply against yourself for a high-score.

          Mille Bornes Collector's Edition

            Amazon base price: $11.99
            List price: $14.99 (that's 20% off!)
First published in 1962, Mille Bornes (pronounced "meel born," French for "milestones") is an auto racing card game whose object, for each team of two players, is to be the first to complete a series of 1,000-mile trips. Each player has a hand of six cards and picks more in turn from a central pile. There are Distance, Hazard, Remedy, and Safety cards, each with various subgroupings, which determine the course of play. This Collector's Edition reproduces the artwork of the original game. The set includes a car-shaped plastic card tray, score sheets, instructions, and deck of 110 playing cards with language in English and French. Bon voyage! --Richard Farr

More fun than Nascar. . .
I've been playing Mille Bornes since the 60's and now have a delightful granddaughter with which to share it! Mille Bornes is at once fun, educational, analytical, strategic. Fun for the grownups as well as the kids. Though the box says ages 8 and up - I've introduced the game to some bright 6 year olds and they love it!

So get out your competitive spirit. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

Great Game, but don't buy this edition
This is still an excellent game; lots of fun for all ages. However, the "Collector's Edition" is not worth the price--flimsy plastic tray--skimpy, badly printed score sheets. If this is all that's available, I'd say go for it, but I'd recommend looking for another version.

            Learning plus !
Especially helpful in early children's French language skills plus applied math; eg. addition/subtraction. Adult fun too - you can play this game & socialize without a "must win" complex.

              Kismet...a game for the ages!
My family has enjoyed this game for many years. Like the other reviews, we made copies of the sheets and continue to play. We've written high scores and even low scores on the box since the early '70's. Our box has a price of $2.29!. This is a great game and for those that think the cup is noisy....my Dad put felt on the bottom and sides of the cup and it doesn't make a sound! Buy and enjoy!!!

A fun, challenging variation of our favorite dice game
Kismet is definitely a welcome addition to the shake and score dice game family. It is actually a "newer" version of Yacht with some changes. I'll always love Yahtzee, and Yacht is a lot of fun, but Kismet has new intricacies and challenges that draws one in and shakes up your playing strategy. It isn't so much the similarities that makes it fun, but its differences and changes in how you play.

Kismet offers many of the same scoring sections and rules of Yacht, (including the pip totals for Full Houses and minus the "Little Straight"), with the addition of 3 of A Kind (from Yahtzee), Flush, Full House (same color) and 2 Pair (same color). The upper, or Basic section also has a bonus for obtaining a high score; the higher the score, the higher the bonus so a more aggressive approach is required when deciding where to put your best rolls. The game's Poker background is much more obvious with the additional scoring combinations. The dice are tri-colored: ones and sixes are black, threes and fours are red and twos and fives are red. Fans of dice games also know that the sum of these opposite numbers of the same color total seven. These colors offer new challenges in scoring in categories requiring an identical color. Another marked difference is in the lower, or Kismet section; both Full House sections, 4 of a Kind and Kismet (5 of a Kind) award a bonus when gaining the respective score in those sections. Perhaps the most daunting (and probably the most cutthroat) difference in Kismet is revealed when scoring a second Kismet. When playing against other opponents, all other players must score a zero in the Basic or Kismet section near the top of either section AND lose their turns while the player who scored the second Kismet rolls again. This can continue as long as that same player continues additional Kismets! My only problems are with the dice cup; it is much too narrow to shake the dice properly, it's a bit flimsy and is definitely not as pictured on the box. The game also does not make provisions for purchasing additional score pads; these are essential for constant play alone or with groups. Kismet is a fun must have for any lover of dice games, and for fans of the Yacht game family looking for an additional challenge.

Shake, Rattle and Roll the Dice for Fun!
I have enjoyed this game for many years, and then it disappeared. Even writing to the company produced no results. So we copied the score sheets and continued having fun. I lost one of my die, and the fun ended! Thankfully, my daughter found the game on Amazon.Com and sent it to me for Mother's Day, and the fun resumed immediately. I strongly urge children and adults alike to partake of the allure and try KISMET...it's a much more challenging game than Yahtzee.

Lara Croft is back... and repackaged. The sequel to the top-selling action adventure game Tomb Raider has now been rereleased as part of Sony's discount Greatest Hits program--which means that you can now get one of the most popular games for the PlayStation at a reduced price. Tomb Raider II offers a stunning game environment decorated with 3-D graphics that are improved from the original game in the series.

While fans of the original game will immediately feel comfortable with the controls and gameplay of this sequel, Tomb Raider II may initially intimidate players not familiar with the series. The controls do seem a little awkward at first, but you can safely learn the ropes by exploring the numerous training exercises accessible in Lara's house.

Once you get trained, you're ready to jump, roll, run, and shoot through multiple levels of action. There are some notable improvements for this sequel, including bigger and better levels than the original. In addition, there are more enemies to contend with. This title is a must-have with the new price. --Mike Byer

              Pros:

              • Sequel to the top-selling Tomb Raider
              • Stars Lara Croft, Internet superstar
              • Lower price as part of Sony's Greatest Hits line
              Cons:
              • Controls may intimidate newer gamers

The Rare Case Where A Sequal Stomps an Original
From the Great Wall of China to the canals of Venice, Tomb Raider II is the rare case in which a sequel is better than an original. In fact, I find this game to be my favorite of the series. In it the legendary Lara Croft sets out to find the Dagger of Xion. In her quest she navigates the globe, and even takes a couple of trips to strange and magical new worlds.

Tomb Raider II offers significant improvements over the original, and its game play exceeds the other games that follow in the series. The game has drastically overhauled weapons and artificial intelligence. Though the puzzles are not as hard as later versions, they still are quite difficult. Lara has new moves, many new weapons, and more dangerous foes. What more could a Tomb Raider fan - or even the casual gamer - ask for?

I highly recommend this game, whether you are an avid Tomb Raider fan or somebody new to the series. I don't believe you will be disappointed - in fact, you will probably find many hours of action filled entertainment. And if you do enjoy it, I strongly recommend other games in this series.

Best in an outstanding adventure series
In retrospect, with 4 games behind her, Tomb Raider II captures most of Lara's finest moments. The cerebral, compelling Egyptian storyline of TR1 is sorely missed, but is replaced with a spectacular variance in exotic locales - Tibet, beneath the ocean, Italian villas, and much more. Each level is a lavish challenge. Although the control is somewhat frustrating at first, you'll find that it becomes empowering and intuitive the more you play. The plotline is compelling and a wonderful adventure, and the variance in the number of foes and puzzles you must overcome will keep you interested throughout the months it takes to beat this colossal game. The problems? Well, the main one is the difficulty level. Since Eidos included the "save anywhere" feature in this game, they felt a sick and twisted need to make the game extremely difficult at the most awkward moments. You'll find yourself tearing your hair out or destroying random objects as you fail to guide Miss Lara through the gauntlet for the 100th time. But, when you succeed, the satisfaction of victory is sincere and overwhelming. An outstanding adventure game, for all fans of Indiana Jones, 1930s serials, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the best "exotic" action flicks. Buy this!

              The best "Tomb Raider" game!
Even though the first "Tomb Raider" was good, the second one is even better! I absolutely love "Tomb Raider 2"! Everything is much better then the first one. There's improved graphics, better locales, more weapons and enemies and awesome vechicles.
It was a blast to play! In fact, it's the only "Tomb Raider"(along with the original) game I fully enjoyed playing, and it's the only one I beat in the series.

Your beautiful Lara Croft, who travels around the globe, including China, Venice, a sunken ship, the Tibetian mountains and a Dragon lair, to retreive and find out about an ancient prized possesion called the Dagger of Xion.

Lara looks way better then the first one. She's better "developed" and her new moves are great. I also found there's more human enemies then in the first one, making Lara feel like an gunman then an archaelogist. But that's ok, since I really liked the locales. Out of all the breaktaking locations here in this game, I liked Venice the best, there you could drive boats, trapple gondolas, and kill many assassins. Along with the boats, you can ride a snowmobile!

I liked the characters and enemies in this game. You can encounter monks, yetis, sharks, as well as the ultimate foe, a gigantic, fire-breathing dragon, which appears at the end of the game. What a climax! I also liked the very last level, "Home Sweet Home" where you battle foes at Lara's mansion. There's also the usual challenging puzzles to solve, things to find.

Even though it's an old game, "Tomb Raider 2" is action-packed entertainment and the best entry in the series. You'll enjoy it to the last minute! I know I did!

The word mancala means "to transfer" in Arabic, and different versions of this deceptively simple strategy game are played all around the world. Each of the 12 pits contains 4 "seeds" or stones. The player chooses one pit from which to "sow" the seeds. All the stones from that pit are placed one by one into the successive pits, counterclockwise around the board. The game ends when all of the pits on one side of the board are empty; the winner is the player with the most stones. This set features a oak-finish wood board with artificial gemstone playing pieces. --S.J. Kurtz

Mancala is not only from Africa
My Step-son has this Mancala set and he brought it over from his Mom's house to teach me how to play one day and I wasn't sure exactly how to play but after playing it several time I got to remember that Mancala is also played in the Philippines but it's called Sungka there. The rules are pretty much the same but this game is awesome and teaches you counting and thinking skills even at my age it's good to brush up on those skills. I recommend this game and I'll probably buy my own so I can play with my husband bcuz he's a pro at this game bcuz he played when he was a child in the Philippines.

Mancala is a game of Marbles, take marbles out and try to be the one with the mast marbles on your side and you will win.Mancala is a game for children, teenagers, and adults, spend hours playing it with family and friends.

                Great for learning strategy
This is a marvelous games for young minds to learn strategy and counting with. The game is deceptively simple which makes it appropriate for fairly young kids (5+) to be able to play. However, in order to do well at this game, kids need to think ahead -- not only to set up their future moves but also to think about how to prevent their opponent from getting some easy scores.

The board size of this version is pretty much perfect. It's large enouch that the stones can't get lost yet it's ability to fold in half makes it possible to bring along as a travel game; because it folds, the game pieces can be easily stored inside. (Note: like any game with game pieces, the stones/pits can be lost. The great thing with this game is that they can be easily replaced with beach pebbles if necessary.)

This game can be entertaining for hours. And, because there is some strategy, it is also fun for adults to play. We highly recommend this game.

Everyone recognizes Monopoly as the "classic" board game. Everyone loves it. Monopoly is a hit with all ages, young and old. It is educational for the young ones, teaching money budgeting tactics and some real-world buying and selling scenarios. The idea of real estate conquest sometimes goes to a player's head, so games can be rather competitive. However, Monopoly will always be fun for all players, and is worth the initial invest for hours of fun in the future. With this edition, Parker Brothers adds some nice new creature comforts like an organizational deed carousel, redesigned money, gold-finished tokens and a new train playing piece. These new features are defenitely worth the extra 7 dollars.

TOP OF THE LIST for the Retro NES Packages!
Ah! The original LEGEND OF ZELDA for your GBA or SP! Now that's my idea of a great retro package! Here is the original game in all of it's 1987 glory - the simple graphics, the simple music, and the not so simple to beat original RPG. The only downside here is a couple of backgrounds had to be squished a little, and it seems like some of the sound effects are not on here (very minimal!). But most people won't notice at all! They will just be glad to see LINK in his 16 color 2 dimensional original glory! This cart along with SUPER MARIO BROS are the two games to own in the RETRO series from Nintendo. The rest seem to be NES versions of arcade classics - which begs to ask WHY!?!?!? Link is still going strong in 4 SWORDS, and he deserves the look back almost 20 years ago when he first took over our televisions! Welcome back old friend!

A gaming mastepiece makes a triumphant return
The original Legend Of Zelda has long been revered as a video gaming masterpiece, even by the gamers of this modern age. Accordingly, it really comes as no surprise that Nintendo wants to keep the classic's popularity level fairly high. In the late spring of 2004, Nintendo rereleased a series of classic Nintendo games as a part of its NES Classics collection. How does the original Legend Of Zelda hold up? Read on for my review.

                  PROS:
-THIS GAME IS A DEAD-ON ACCURATE PORT OF THE NES CLASSIC. Nintendo has been promising for years that they would rerelease the game on a modern console, and at long last, they have delivered on that promise.
-EVEN BY TODAY'S STANDARDS, THIS IS A FUN AND CHALLENGING GAME. This is a game that will really make you think on more than a few moments. The puzzles aren't as compelling as anything later in the series, but they add to the fun nonetheless.
-IT'S SO SIMPLE, YET SO COMPLEX AT THE SAME TIME. I loathe games of the modern age due to their high complexity level. The games of today force gamers to spend as much time reading instruction manuals as they do playing the games! This game is simple to learn, but it so compelling that it will keep your attention for an indefinite period of time.

                  CONS:
-TWENTY DOLLARS (the launch price) FOR THIS GAME IS HIGHWAY ROBBERY! If you were paying twenty dollars for a Game Boy Advance ANTHOLOGY of classic NES or Zelda titles, that would be a good price, but to charge that much for a game that was out before many modern video gamers were even born is just insulting! Why not just whip out your old NES cart instead?
-THE GAME IS HARD, AND NOT ALWAYS IN A GOOD WAY. There is almost no social element in this game whatsoever, so you're more likely than not going to have to use an FAQ or walkthrough to beat the game. You can't tell were dungeons are hidden, nor can you tell where walls can be destroyed with a bomb. Also, many of the dungeon maps are inaccurate - your character can enter rooms of the dungeon that "don't exist", according to the maps. Likewise, the game gives no clues whatsoever as to how some puzzles are solved.
-IT'S THE ORIGINAL - NO NEW FEATURES OR ANYTHING. This is a real shame, because Nintendo could have created a stunningly beautiful remake of this game (kind of like what they did with the Metroid series with Metroid Zero Mission.) This release is a wasted opportunity.

                  OVERALL:
I know, I complained a lot about this reissue. But that doesn't really change the way I feel about the game itself. This game is a classic, and truly one of Nintendo's greatest triumphs ever. If you've got a Game Boy Advance, give this one a whirl - you'll be glad you did.

                  Amazing
I love nintendo, but haven't played the original in about ten years. When the retro gameboy advance with the classic nes series came out it blew my mind. I feel like Link even handels better than the original. The game took me way back to when these games were cutting age and controllers only had four directions and two buttons, cause that was all you needed. It made me remember waking up on my eighth birthday to a brand new NES plugged into a little yellow (it was the 80's) tv and flipping my brain. This game is a must for all you estranged NES fans. It's what video games are all about.
