Mech Warrior Mad Cat
Made by K'NEX
    Amazon base price: $29.99
Fans of the K'NEX building system can fast-forward to the battlefield of the 31st century with this 14-inch model of a Mad Cat robot fighter. Even better: after it has been built, and then either blown to smithereens or sat on by the family dog, it can be rebuilt into the Avatar war machine--or, of course, an infinite number of other creations. Detailed instructions (wordless and color coded) are included for the Mad Cat and Avatar. Approximately 350 pieces; recommended for ages 10 and over. --Richard Farr

    Durrrr
I'll start with the Mad Cat. It's very durable (I've thrown it against the wall a few times and nothing happened), moves easily and in the proper positions, and the general look and shape is very much like that in the game(s). As for the Avatar, it's also durable. Easier to handle the foam missile launcher since it's on a swiveling arm. Also very durable (again, throwing it against the wall), and looks very much alike to the real thing. The two problems would be the size of the Mad Cat's missile racks (they're really tiny) and the thickness of the Avatar's arm mounts. The Mad Cat's one of my all-time favourite 'Mechs, so it's fun to play with. What would be really REALLY cool is if they came out with a Nova Cat! But perhaps I'm just being too hopeful. ;)

    5 outta 5
this toy is the greatest. I bought it with my birthday from toys r us and it was awesome. It took me 2 hrs. to build (which is why i gave it 5 stars for educational value) and that is awesome how you put it together because i also collect bionicles and they are built basicly the same. It is very durable except you kinda have to pust the plastic paper thingys on pretty good but its no hassle. I,ve only gotten one but I hope I get cauldron born from my grandma for christmas.

    Althogh your pics are incorrect...
This toy is not appropriate for children who like to rip thier toys apart and then lose the peices and are never able to find them again, however this toy is suited perfectly for those who want to rip their toys apart, but are able to rebuild them. this is not good for collecters as the toys hardly bear any resemblence to their 'real' counterparts. I would also like it noted that the 'mech shown in the pictures exepting the last two is that of another 'mech entirely, the Avatar, and the picure is taken from the rear of the 'mech.

    'N Sync Backstage Pass Game
    Made by Patch
    Age Group: 8 - 12 years
      Amazon base price: $5.98
      List price: $19.99 (that's 70% off!)
Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be groupies. Good advice, but unlikely to be followed by players of the 'N Sync Backstage Pass Game, for whom bypassing beefy security guards by matching the secret password in order to meet 'N Sync backstage is the entire point. The game board is set up like a concert arena. Players (or as the rules call them, "fans") attempt to move from the last row to front row security, making stops to answer multiple-choice trivia questions about Joey, Lance, Justin, Chris, and JC in their respective fan club areas. ("Is Chris's worst habit belching, biting his nails, or junk food?" "On Halloween, Lance once dressed as a cow, horse, or piglet?") Collect all five, then giddy up to one of four paths blocked by a guard. If his hidden password matches the one dealt to you at the beginning of the game, then you get to wear the backstage pass. Just like the box screams, the questions are "LOADED with JUICY personal facts you won't find anywhere else!" The boys are singing just for die-hard 'N Sync fans, delirious over a board game devoted to their heroes: "It might sound crazy, but it ain't no lie; Baby, Buy Buy Buy." --Tony Mason

A must have for total *NSYNC fans...
This is a great trivia game for *NSYNC fans. I should know...I've played it several times.

Fun = This game was so much fun for me. Of course, I am a big *NSYNC fan, so that may have had something to do with it. I definitely think that if you want a good trivia game of your favorite five guys, then this is the one.

Educational = Okay, in traditional standards, this game wouldn't be considered educational, but this isn't a traditional thing. This game can teach you a lot of interesting information on JC, Lance, Joey, Chris, and Justin that you might not already know. It also can teach you how to share and get along with your fellow *NSYNC fans. This is very important. ;)

Durable = It seems like it's pretty durable to me. Of course, if you left it alone in a room with a bunch of little kids, I'm sure it would be ripped to pieces. Of course, in that kind of situation, most things would be ripped up.

So, this is something that all diehard *NSYNC fans and teenyboppers should get - no matter how old they are.

A mom, and an *nsync fan too!
My 9 year old daughter wanted this game for Christmas, and being a huge fan of *nsync and loving board games, I thought this would be a lot of fun for her, and it really is! Although some of the trivia fact answers are different from what we have read elsewhere, the game does not take long to play and is a blast for anyone who loves these guys!! We highly recommend it!!

      great game!
Any *NSYNC Fan should have this game! It is all about trivia so you have to know *NSYNC! I have played it a few times with my friend and it is fun! If you love NSYNC get this game!

      Great Game
This game is great. I just got it yesterday and I cant quit playing it. The best new thing might be the stadium pulse where u can make the fans scream louder and make it harder for the other team to hear or concentrate on running the play right. The "superhit" feature is awsome too, u can jack people really hard and injure them. just go out and spend the money it is defiently worth it

EA Just Keeps Making It Better
I just bought NCCA Football and I've played it for a few hours, and all I can say is..WOW!!! This has to be the not only one of the best sports games available, but one of the best GC titles. EA has really gone all out to make NCCA 2005 the most realistic college game yet...and they have succeded. First off, the graphics are stunning. A lot of people claim the Gamecube can't produce good textures of player models, but those people should take one look at this game. The lighting effects are the most realistic of any game available, and sutble touches, like grass stains on jerseys and how the crowd looks and acts really look great. The sound is top notch too. The crowd is almost deafning at the home team's field, and the announce team and marching bands are vastly improved over last year's version. But, all that's just gravy on what is seriously, the most deep, challenging, and fun games on the market.

First off, the new "Match Up" stick is a welcome additon. Now, you can pinpoint which DB is nervous or rattled and exploit that for a big gain. But you also have to be smart about this and not rely on the Match Up stick on every down. If you do, you'll force balls into coverage and, on defense, blow the coverage and give up a big play. Speaking of defense, NCCA 2005 includes the "Hit Stick" that Madden 2005 will include. With a flick of the C stick, you can unleash a devestating hit on the running back or reciever and maybe cause a fumble. Watch out though, if you miss, you'll end up face down on the grass. The new "Stadium Pulse" is cool too. Now if you're the home team, you can pump up the crowd on key plays and cause the vistiting team's offense to flunk an aduible. You can also do this while a kicker is getting ready to make a clutch kick. The dynasty mode is the deepest and best of any sports game. You can now suspend and discipline players that are acting up off the field. You can also recruit non football athletes and deal with players who want to transfer. This is awesome for football fanatics, but it may scare off casual gamers. Finally, one of my biggest problems with NCCA 2004 was that your recievers could never catch the damn ball! Whether it was a floater or a bullet pass, they always dropped it!. In 2005, it's a lot easier to complete passes and take pressure of the running game(which benifits from the "Agile Running" system in 2005)

So in conslusion, if you enjoy any kind of football, BUY THIS GAME!! The only way you'll stop playing it is when NCCA Football 2006 is released.

      Pretty Good
I just got NCAA Football 2005 yesterday. I played it for a few hours last night. So far it has been pretty fun. There are a couple things that aren't so great. The camera shakes sometimes. I highly recommend playing on a large television because it's hard to see anything on a 13" TV. Everything is pretty much the same from NCAA Football 2004. The home crowd meter thing is kind of a nuisance at times. The Dynasty mode is pretty cool. I've played 2004 on PS2 and I'd have to say that the GameCube version isn't quite the same. But it's still worth getting it.

      Pop Up Pirate
      Made by Tomy
      Age Group: 4 - 7 years
        Amazon base price: $11.99
Pop Up Pirate! promises hours of amusement. After all, who doesn't like to see a pirate get shot out of a barrel? The game is simple. The unlucky pirate is pushed into the top of a brown plastic barrel, readying the spring mechanism for his eventual launch. Players then take turns pushing colorful plastic swords into holes on the side of the barrel, one by one until finally someone releases the spring and sends the poor little pirate on his way. Whoever makes the pirate pop loses, until the next round at any rate. The game includes a blue plastic base, the brown barrel (the sort that pirates would use for grog), and 24 plastic swords--six each of yellow, red, green, and blue. There's also lots of stickers of birds, smiling sharks, and even an ogling octopus, although they don't stay stuck very well. The pirate himself has a big black mustache and wears an eye patch and a purple plastic scarf over his head. Luckily, he doesn't seem to mind getting jounced around so much, since he also has a gigantic, if somewhat cautious, grin. --David Morel

        One of my son's favorites!
I was skeptical when I first bought this for my three-year-old, but we were looking for games to play together and he really wanted this one. I'm so glad I gave in because we've had it for six months and he still loves it. I have no idea why the manufacturer recommends it for ages 5+ because it is perfect for younger kids.

A game for children in the morning and adults in the evening
This game is great for children. The more amazing part is how easily it becomes an adults drinking game. I feel this brings new meaning toy for all ages. You may find that you are fighting with your children over who gets to use the pirate so I recommend buying two.

        A Toddler-iffic Game!
I have two boys, ages 2 and 5, and it has been very hard to find games that my two year old could also play. We had really given up playing board type games until my two year received this for a Christmas present! This game is so easy (no reading and simple concept) and the kids love anticipating the pirate popping up! We call out the color of the swords and count how many we have put in etc. to bring in educational values. I admit I was hesitant about the game working since it requires no batteries (hooray) and I wondered about the durability. Well this game has exceeded all expectations and is truly a family favorite! GREAT GAME!

          My favorite pinball
It seems silly for a grownup, but of all the pinball games I've had for my gameboy, this is the best. When the old one I had died, I bought a replacement! It's both 1 and 2, there are lots of level and speed setting combos, and lots of minigames. I play it every week!

          Really good!
This is a really addicting Pinball game! It is really fun and challenging. you have to spell the names of either Ariel or Melody (depending on which table you play) to open up secrets and mini-games. this game is extremely addictiong and is good for a long car trip!

          Pinball Addiction
We are a family of pinball addicts and absolutely love this game. It is a constant battle to see who can outdo whom in the high score range. The graphics are good as is the music. Good color and the mini-screen turns aren't as easy as they look but they're still alot of fun! This is great for all ages!!

          MindRover: The Europa Project
          Made by CogniToy
            Amazon base price: $29.99
            Used price: $44.99
CogniToy's first game, MindRover, takes gamers to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, in an intriguing new adventure designed to bring intellectual challenges back to competitive gaming. With an immersing 3-D environment, a compelling soundtrack, and its innovative graphical wiring system, MindRover asks the gamer to think more and twitch less. MindRover players find themselves in a research station perched on the ice-covered moon as Jupiter dominates the sky overhead. Your task is to construct small robotic rovers that compete with one another in a variety of challenges. What's particularly new and unusual is that it's not just a matter of choosing weapons. The player actually gets to control how the robots react through a visual programming metaphor that CogniToy calls "wiring." In the construction lab, players choose bodies, drive trains, sensors, weapons, and manipulators for their robots from a large array of possibilities, then visually wire the sensors to the controls to give each rover a unique set of behaviors. The rover is then moved to the competitive arena and set free to take on all competitors. In one arena, the competition may be a race, and players would likely choose small, fast vehicles with sensors tuned for staying on the course and avoiding obstacles. But in the very next room, the goal may be simply to be the last robot standing, in which case it might be a good idea to festoon a tank with a whole array of weapons, along with radar units to guide them. The game includes puzzles, mazes, treasure hunts, and other unique problem-solving tasks.

            What a great game
I really like this game for a few different reasons. I've always wanted to program a game but never had the programming skills. Now I know even if I had the skills I would have got caught up on the AI programming. Using a drag-and-drop interface you can program in the logic for a virtual robot. You give it the logic and let it run wild. The reason I gave this 4 stars is because the tutorial only takes you so far and there's no documentation for the behind-the-scenes programming language, ICE. There is on the web but not in printed form when you buy it. A simple reference with a syntax diagram and one or two examples would have been fine. But the forum on the official website is quite good. This game is good at inadvertently teaching you how to program in a very fun manner. Even some indirect object oriented stuff. You have objects like thrusters which you then tie to other objects like the "track sensors", capturing events and having them respond accordingly. This is right out of a Visual Basic course (on click command button pop up dialog box). You can play this whole game and not even know there's a programming language involved. But if you know some programming you'll start to get frustrated the way HTML writers would get trying to use FrontPage. You know what logic you want to implement and could do it with a typed program but can't get seem to figure it out through the drag-and-drop interface. In other words you might out grow the drag-and-drop and groan "I need more power!" (which is there but instruction on using it is somewhat fleeting, in my opinion).

I can see how this could be frustrating to somebody coming from a Quake or Deer Hunter 3 type game background. It's not like other games. A lot of patience and frustration tolerance is a good thing to have for this game.

I would like to say this would be a great game for an introduction to programming class. The first half of the class could be for drag and drop and logic introduction, the second half could introduce ICE (which borrows liberally from BASIC, or more specifically some sort of VBScript derivative). And maybe extra credit for the best over-all intelligent rover. You can set two human made bots against each other in various scenarios like racing, capture the flag, "sumo" contests and hockey (not to mention battles) and even make up teams of two bots that communicate with each other. High schools be warned though: it insists on a 3d accelerator to run, at least it uses OpenGL.

If there's one major gripe I have with this game it's the ability to win against the game default AI rovers by simply taking advantage of their lack of AI. For example I beat the "chase" scenario with one of my bots that had a logic error. You're supposed to chase the other rover around until you run into and "tag" it. My rover got stuck running into a wall. The rival rover inadvertently ran into me as I sat there hitting this wall, so I won the scenario.

Anybody regardless of programming experience can effectively play this game given the patience to do so. Overall a very excellent game.

This is a great game and a revolutionary effort!
Cognitoy's Mindrover is a great game as one is able to design and program robots and then have them operate in a 3D cyber space or, thru downloading the software via infrared,
have the same programming operating a real world physical robot!

Supporting an increasing set of robots: beginning with Lego Mindstorms and most recently (as detailed in the December 2001 Poptronics Robotics column), support for OOPIC. Rumor has it other processors/robot kits are in the pipeline making the possibilities mind-boggling.

More cerebral than pure reckless fun, this is a thinking beings adventure with direct results and an expanding universe.

I installed this software on both Red Hat Linux and WindowsXP and although it seems somewhat sensitive to what 3D/OpenGL support there is; both ran fine. ...

Wonderful, distinguished piece of software art
While this game is not as original as many people think (RobotWare for Apple II by Muse Software in 1981 was the first of its type) this is an absolutely fantastic game. Easy to learn, hard to master, and VERY fun. This is the thinking person's game. Educational and addictive for kids (probably above about 12) and adults like me who wish they spent more time with products like this when they were young. Difficult to recommend this too highly.

EA Sports promises that "the soul of hoops comes to life" with NBA Live 99. Hype aside, the company has delivered a solid basketball game that will keep you coming back for one last shot. With excellent graphics and new features such as play-by-play commentary and real-life player reactions, this virtual NBA exhibition will score big with basketball fans.

NBA Live 99 may be a bit frustrating to play until you're familiar with the controls, but once you've mastered the basics, you can do quite a bit. Our favorite moves include the crossover, spin, fake, and, of course, the slam-dunk. Luxuriate over close-ups of your greatest shots with the "instant replay" feature. To add to the competition, you can play complete 48-minute games with as many as eight players. A memory card will come in handy to arrange full seasons and playoffs. The variety of camera angles adds to the feel of a real NBA game, and its exhilarating pace and competitive options will get almost anyone hooked on this game. --Sal Barcia

              Pros:

              • Excellent graphics and variety of camera angles
              • Play-by-play commentary and real-life player reactions
              Cons:
              • May be a bit frustrating to play until you're familiar with the controls

              Fun-filled, nice clean fun!
I really like this game. I had the ancient "N.B.A. live 95", and I thought that it was the bomb at the time! This game has been taken to a whole new level! I like how you can design your own player with a mustache and beard and the style of their features and jersey and muscular structure. Very tight game! I reccommend this game highly! It is certainly better than those satanic, evil, violent games that are not all that good to play, and are a bore. I'm a christian, and I believe in playing certain games, but this one is for everyone!

              cool game
this game is really tight with awsome graphics it has 3 point shoot out practice and tons more i recomend it.

              Best Basketball Sim Available
NBA Live 2000 has it all, historic teams, classic players, updated rosters, and a great basketball type atmosphere. This game lacks one thing that NBA Live 99 blows it away in: Game Play and Graphics. Live 2000's graphics are choppy and not well organized. 99's graphics are a little smoother and the controls are easier to handle. Buy this game, without doubt.

this is absoluty the best hockey game i ever played!the only thing i dont like about this, is when a player gets a hat trick there would not be hats on the ice.and it wouldnt be too much to ask for some music after the home team scores.but other than that the game is great.

                AN AWESOME GAME
This is one of the best games I've ever played.I got this game to play just until I got NHL 2001.I'm not so sure I want to get it anymore.Right when I started to play I knew this game was awesome!!Great graphics and the levels of difficulty are really good. What's really good is being able to choose your own jersey. Some people who have NHL 2001 might think it's pretty stupid, but if you ask me it's a really good game.

                BUY IT!
It is the best hocky game I've ever played! One of my favorite features is the create a player because you can give him your own stats. The stats all start at 40 and you have around 400 points to use. You can trade him to different teams. But sometimes the rosters are full so you have to trade him to a different team then trade him to yours. The only bad thing is that the teams will only accept a player that is equal or better to that player. The graphics are good and you can choose different camera angles. You can also turn on and off penalties. Over all it is a very good game.

                  Perfect for GBA
This has everything you coul possibly need for you GBA. I really like the rechargeable battery pack. If you you hate buying batteries this is for you or should I say you GBA

Love It, A must have for any GBA owner
I bought this one day while looking for somethin else.. and found it to be worth every penny...
It charges remarkably fast and lasts almost as long as a decent set of regular batteries..
Add to that the fact that you can play with one pack while the other charges and you have one awsome battery option.
If you own a GBA and are tired of buying batteries for it this is a must buy.
