Rack-O
Made by Parker Brothers
    Amazon base price: $7.99
    List price: $8.99 (that's 11% off!)
Like many card games, Rack-O is part skill, part luck of the draw. Two to four players try to get their rack of 10 cards in consecutive order, from lowest to highest, first. The cards are numbered from 1 to 60, and each player takes a turn by drawing and discarding. Bonus Rack-O points are earned when a player gets a perfect run of three or more cards. The first to rack up 500 points wins. The rule book doesn't suggest variations, but more challenge can be added by having to get certain number patterns, like even numbers or multiples of 3, which will also increase the number skills development that's part of this game. --Lynne Sampson

    GREAT!!
I am a 23 year old architect and I have have just recently discovered this game. It provides hours and hours of fun, and it is a very easy game to play and understand.

    5-4-3-2-1 * RACK-0 * I WIN!!
I grew up playing games but had never heard of this until I got married. I guess my husband and his mom used to always play. It is great for all ages, it is educational for the little ones and strategy builder for the big kids. It is fun and addictive...you keep wanting to play because you were so close to winning! Add this one to your game closet it is guarenteed excitement for the family/friends. (only set back is max # of people is 4) You can play with 2, 3, or 4 players. There are a few variations to play to keep things intersting and easier ways for those who are just learning. +++ Get this one TODAY +++

Racko is a very fun game!
RACKO is a game for 2 to 4 people. The object of the game is to go "RACKO" - having all 10 cards in your rack in consecutive order. You accomplish this by drawing and discarding cards on your turn. When somebody goes "RACKO" everybody counts how many points they have. You get 5 points for each card you have in your rack that goes in order from low to high starting from the bottom, and whoever goes "RACKO" gets an additional 25 points. If the person who goes "RACKO" has any runs of 3 or more cards, they get additional bonus points. First person to 500 points wins.

RACKO is very fun, and involves a lot of strategy. The rules are simple enough that kids can enjoy the game as well, making RACKO a fun game for the entire family.

    Outburst Jr.
    Made by Parker Brothers
      Amazon base price: $16.99
Go ahead, blurt it out! Name all the Jell-O flavors you can think of in 60 seconds. How many books by Judy Blume can you remember? How about musical instruments you blow? Motor mouths excel at this fast-thinking, noisy game. Each team is given one minute to shout out answers that might--or might not--be listed on the topic card. For every correct answer, the team scores one point. A cool viewer makes the invisible answers on the topic card magically appear. With 400 topics, bonus points, and options for younger or older players--even adults can join in--prepare for hours of explosive fun! The game includes two decks of topic cards, a viewer/card holder, a score card with scoring glides, a 60-second timer, a bonus number die, and very friendly instructions with great advice for being good sports. For two or more players in teams.

It has been brought to our attention that some boxes of Outburst Jr. contain a single question card from the adult version of the game. The contents of this card may be considered unsuitable for children. --Emilie Coulter

      Great Game!!!!!
This is a Wonderful game. not only is it fun, but you can learn a lot. I have also found that even a couple of my friends who are slightly younger than me have fun too. My parents like it too. So basically, it has levels of hardness for everyone but can go light on the smaller kids. My only concern is that in the future, me and my friends will run out of cards and get sick of the game. Overall, the game is a blast to play.

      A wonderful FAMILY game!
There is nothing better (at times at least ) than a game that the whole family enjoys playing. Our 8-year old and 6-year old love to play this game with us and it helps the youngest's reading, counting (on the board) and knowledge for both of them. The only problem is our youngest who is 3 1/2 wants to play and she is a bit too young and winds up getting frustrated and frustrating us all in turn.
A nice small game to bring on vacation and even play in the car or airplane - for all ages (the youngest ones need to be on a team with someone older and the older ones need patience.)
      Fun!

Kids Get to Show What They Know!
I have had "Outburst Junior" sitting on my game shelf for many years now. My kids are grown now, but recently I had some young visitors and remembering all the hours of fun we had with this game in years past(It's still in great shape), I thought it would be a great way to keep these youngsters entertained. And it was! The object is to try and YELL out as many items in a specific catagory, as you can think of in a limited amount of time. The kids loved this as they got to show off what they knew and use their "outside voices" as well! In the edition I have(hopefully it is still the same), there are cards picked at random that decide the catagories, there is one side for kids subjects(name the 7 dwarves etc, and the other side of the card is for the adults and the subjects are of course a little harder. So there's a level playing field, the kids can compete with you and you DON'T have to let them win. It's fun, a great break from TV and video games, and it makes them THINK! Even if their just playing against other kids, they'll enjoy it.I would definitly reccomend this for school age kids and their parents.
      Have fun....Laurie

      Boggle
      Made by Parker Brothers
        Amazon base price: $14.99
You can't beat a classic like Boggle for sheer return of fun on one's investment in a simple game. A small container holds 16 cubes, each cube marked with a different letter on each of its six sides. Give the container a good shake, and the cubes land within little pockets. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find as many words (of three-or-more letters) as you can--in three minutes. Points are tallied by word length. --Tom Keogh

        What happened to big boggle??
My family has been playing boggle since I was 10 yrs old! I am now 46. Somewhere along the line we graduated to big boggle (5 letters or more ) We always played after dinner, even my grandmother. We needed teams to beat my dad! Our set has seen better days. We can't seem to find a replacement...does anyone know where big boggle has gone?

        THE classic word game
Boggle is a great word game that is fun for the whole family in which players have three minutes to find as many connected words as they can in a 4x4 grid. It doesn't take long to play (only three minutes to be exact) and you don't need a lot of space to play it. It uses a lot of the same skills as scrabble, but unlike in scrabble you won't keep getting beaten every time by that brainy uncle who must have memorized the dictionary, because most of the words that can be found are only 3 or 4 letters long, and even younger kids have a fair chance to win(occasionally a very long word can be found however - my personal triumph was the 8-letter "nicotine"). Also, you WILL learn new words you never knew existed from this game when people guess them and make you look them up - crazy words like "hie" and "tat" and "coe". Overall a very fun game well worth buying, although I wish they still made the bigger version, because that one's a lot of fun too.

        The ONLY Game there is
I do not play board games, plain and simple. Boggle is the exception. I got hooked on it about 18 months ago. It is the most addictive game I've ever played. Its appeal crosses generations -- my 76-year-old father is its most ardent enthusiast. I like it because it keeps his mind sharp.

My wife and I compete fiercely. We slightly modify the rules. For example,we allow two turns of the timer per board, allowing us more time to develop words. We say that the game is over after three boards; then we start a new game. This keeps it interesting if someone falls decisively behind. We also give two bonus points (13 in total) if someone develops a nine-letter word. (Play the game, see how difficult THAT is, then you'll see why we think it deserves a bonus.)

I am fortunate to have found a VERY old Big Boggle game in my mother's basement. This game is good, but the BEST game is Master Boggle. I cannot find it anywhere, but my father has it. The mix of letters allows you to develop really cool, exotic words. Last week, I spelled "gestalt."

        Clue
        Made by Parker Brothers
          Amazon base price: $16.99
Poor Mr. Boddy has been shockingly murdered in his own mansion. To win this game, you must become a roving detective, sniffing out the answers to the classic mystery questions: Who among Mr. Boddy's guests committed the murder? What was the murder weapon? (Lead pipe? Wrench? Candlestick?) Where did the murder happen? (Library? Conservatory?) Because the answers change each time, the game is constantly challenging. A gameboard map of the mansion, detective notepad, deck of cards, one die, wandering playing pieces, and a healthy dose of intuition will help players be the first to figure out the answers. This edition of Clue is a departure from the old faces and mansion rooms that were beginning to look dated after all these years. Sultry Miss Scarlett looks like Lesley Ann Warren from the movie Clue. Mr. Green looks convincingly sinister, Mrs. Peacock snobbish and potentially cruel. Colonel Mustard is still Pompous, Professor Plum still clueless. Mrs. White, the grandmotherly maid, is downright spooky. --Gail Hudson

One of the best games ever made
Clue is the classic game by Parker Brothers. In the game you stuck are in a mansion. The owner Mr.Boddy has been murdered and its up to you to find out who did it.

There are six different playable characters. No character can do something others can't the only differnce in them is there starting locations and there actual names. Your goal is to navigate the mansion finding out clues as to who committed the murder. You have to guess who did it, where the murder was done, and what was is done with. You go by trial and error throughout the house until you gather enough clues to guess it right.

The game itself is pretty durable. You have six token pieces, a six sided die, cards, a standard board, and paper sheets for you clue book. Unless something gets wet you should be set.

The game is educational because it makes you think. You have to keep track of your clues that you collect. You can also pick up other clues by paying attention to other peoples clues and who is proving them wrong. You can be quite savvy in the game and this part is quite educational and fun.

Clue is a classic game. People have been playing it for over 50 years. It's the classic game of who did it and it's a fun mystery. No game is ever the same and that makes it even more fun. No kid or adult should ever go there life without playing this game. So go get Clue and find out who did it.

An All-Time Favourite That Stands The Test Of Time
Like so very many other families, CLUE has been a board game played in our house over many years.

Where else can you find such a great source of entertainment that provides real fun as well as an education in deductive reasoning?

CLUE offers a solid alternative to a boring night watching TV. And it certainly encourages family discussions as you play it. Now, that's something television doesn't offer!

Our kids are all grown up now, but we still get together frequently over the dining room table to have another CLUE evening.

The only criticism I have of the game is that the pads of detective notes are very hard to replace. I recently went into one local games store and was told they had been trying for two years to get a supply of the CLUE detective notes. Many customers had been apparently asking for them.

My solution was to simply create my own detective notes form on our home computer, using a graphics program.

Seems like we could have a supply-and-demand opportunity here.

Anyone listening out there in Parker Brothers land?

          Detective Vandelay
I loved this game as a child, I love it as an Adult!

This is a board game that parents and children can play together...and both have fun.

What's in the game? The game board is filled with different rooms (kitchen, library, billard room etc) and spaces that lead you to the rooms..there are also two seceret passages. You have game pieces (all different colours) which represent the people ...who are all suspected of killing Mr. Boddy...was it Colonel Musterd? Mrs. Scarlett? or perhaps Mr. Green. To add, you have different weapons that could have led to Mr. Boddy's demise...the rope, revolver, candlestic etc.

All game players are given equil amounts of cards...each card has a person, weapon or a room on it. 3 cards (one room one weapon one person) are hidden in an envelope that cannot be opened until a player has decided he/she knows the answer. The player then looks at their cards and crosses off that person, room or weapon on his recording sheet...the player then can wonder about the other rooms etc

The players start rolling the dice, going into rooms and making accusations....

If you like detective work, try to find Mr. Boddy's killer!

          You'll have fun!

We're groovin', we're movin', we're boppin'! This hilarious game requires speedy reflexes and a rhythm section in the brain! Musical and spoken commands instruct players to "Twist it! Pull it! Bop it! Pass it!" Electronic impulses move the random play faster and faster; players have to keep up or risk the disappointment-filled recorded scream: "Aoowww!" Played alone or with a group, Bop It keeps score and keeps the beat. All the players have to do is keep on bopping, pulling, and twisting the button, knob, and ratchet! Cymbals crashing, bass drum booming, whistles shrieking ... who can resist? The 15-inch turquoise, black, purple, and yellow toy requires 3 AA batteries (not included). Great game for many ages
Bop-it is a very fun game for many people. It tests your reflexes in a fun way. It's also nice it has so many different games to play.

Bop It - Is it a game or is it real?
So, I'm minding my own business, doing my work, when my boss runs up to me with Bop It. "You've got to try this!" he demands, a maniacal look in his eye. I gingerly take the odd plastic toy. It looks like some tribal weapon, a misshapen club. My boss smacks the large "Bop It!" button, and immediatly the thing starts emitting a drum beat. Convinced it's possessed by some ancient god, I'm about to cast it away when it yells, "Bop it!" I instinctively hit the button. The drums continue. "Pull it!", the toy barks. I desperately yank on one end. The drums continue. "Twist it!" is the next command. Twist what?! I panic, then make a grab for the little twister device on the other end. "AAAaargh!!!" yells the machine, like a man falling off a caldera into molten lava. I was too late! The drums stop.

My hands shaking, I put the toy down.

              Teacher excited about Bop-It
Bop-It has been an excellent addition to my first grade classroom. This game is in high demand each morning as students actually wait in a line to play! What's most exciting is while students think they're simply playing a fun game, they are also enhancing their eye-hand coordination as well as their auditory skills. This is a game that parents and children can play together and both enjoy! Bop-It, a durable and relatively inexpensive toy, is one I would highly recommend to game lovers of all ages.

                risk
ok, first off im 16. When i first heard about risk i thought it would be pretty fun. well, risk is a fun game but there is to much luck involved. for example an army of 2 soliders can take out an army of 10 soliders with rolling the right numbers.it is a pretty easy strategy game to learnbut it gests very old easily and you can end up angry beacause you got terribel dice rolls and your friends got better rolls.its educational because it teaches some strategy. and the durability you can loose the pieces. if you want a real fun strategy game then get axis and allies which will sure give you a good time

simplistic war game more fun for younger players
Risk is a rudimentary war game heavily based on dice rolls and card drawing that pits would-be tyrants in a battle for world domination. Despite the various fancy new packaging designs that have come out in recent years, Risk remains at heart the same game it always was, involving vast hordes of little plastic pieces sweeping back and forth across across continents. Risk can be a lot of fun the first few times you play it and is an especially good buy for younger players because it is a game that fosters creative and strategic thinking, yet has rules simple enough for kids to master. However, for older players who are looking for in-depth strategy, this game might not be the best choice because it gets old quickly, is too dependent on the luck of the dice, and is especially prone to stalemates that can drag out for hours. If you are looking for similar games that will really challenge your strategic genius, I would suggest Axis and Alles or Samurai Swords.

In my opinion, the education value of Risk is minimal because the gameplay is very abstract and the geegraphical regions are not named very accurately.

                Good beginner set for wargaming.
Risk has been played by myself for over 30 years. It is a game that you can invite your children, grandchildren, friends, etc. to play and to enjoy. It is my nefarious plan to attempt to find a few gems to like this game so much that they'll want more...then move on to more complicated games like "Axis and Allies" or "Russian Front".. maybe even Kremlin!

If you're looking for a simple introduction to wargaming, I invite you over to my home in Lincoln Nebraska for a game... maybe you'll like it so much, you'll want more...

Keep in mind that, even without the wargaming aspect of this game, it is fun, exciting, and more than a little frustrating to play.. but well worthwhile the time it takes to (as we try everyday) TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

In 1934, in the midst of the Great Depression, an unemployed heating engineer from Pennsylvania created the game of Monopoly. Realizing that his get-rich theme might appeal to other Americans, he had the game printed and distributed in a Philadelphia department store. When he couldn't keep up with the overwhelming requests for more sets, he arranged for Parker Brothers to take over the game. And the rest, as they say, is history. But Monopoly is far from a quaint historical relic. To this day, it remains a riveting game of luck, chance, and savvy wheeling and dealing--all of which can make some lucky dog rich, rich, rich! Based on the purchase of Atlantic City real estate (a city currently renowned for its get-rich gambling opportunities), Monopoly is now printed in 26 languages with more than 200 million sets sold worldwide. Players still scoot the same beloved board pieces: the old shoe, the terrier, and the hot rod. This set also includes rules for a shortened version of the game and a new token, winner of Monopoly's recent "design a token" contest. This is capitalism at its most fun and ruthless, a must-have edition in the family game closet. --Gail Hudson

                  Only with my brother!
I'll only play this is my brother offers to play, because my sisters, cousins and friends won't sit through it (unless Miguel plays)! It's so long and drawn out that you quickly get bored. My brother livens it up sometimes.

Anyway,I've only finished this game twice. Once was in 1998 and me and my brother stayed up until five AM playing it--so we were essentially playing it around four hours.

If it's a rainy day with nothing to do and you have older children, it's okay. But otherwise, it's really to long to even bother with.

                  The World's #1 Board Game!
Monopoly has been enjoyed by people all over the world for almost 70 years! During the time period that it has been out, Monopoly has come in many different versions and has been available on Video games and computer games! I don't think there is one person in this world who can forget the hours of fun this game can bring!

The object of the game is too buy, sell, loan and collect different properties at different amounts of money. Who can forget those classic sayings "Go to GO....Collect $200 as you pass" or "Go to Jail"? I have enjoyed the game since I was about 9/10 years old and I still love to play it today. Each property has its own color group (Purple, Baby Blue, Fushia, Yellow, etc) which has it's own different price (With "Mediterainian Ave" being the cheapest and "Boardwalk" being the most expensive) Lets not forget the "Railroads" or "Utilities"!!

The "Banker" has the most important job of all. He/She must hand out money and collect money owed when a property is bought. The banker must also be sure to give and collect the right amounts from the players (This is were the Addition, Subtraction, Muliplication and Division skills come in handy!) This game can be a great help to people who need to improve or learn about new math skills!

The person with the most money at the end of the game (Usually when someone goes bankrupt or when 8 hours of playing finally bores the heck out of you!!) wins and the person with the less loses. All in all, this game is really fun to keep you company or to entertain your freinds when they come for a visit! A must-have for any board game lover!

It's still hard to get a triple word score, the tiles are still made of wood, there's only one "X" in the whole box, and family feuds are increasing exponentially. But after 50 years, Scrabble has had a face-lift: a swivel base allows the board to turn so players don't have to work upside down, a plastic grid helps keep tiles in line, and a handy bag stores the letters when they're not in use. The premise hasn't changed at all--two to four players battle it out to make high-scoring words from seven little letters--so choose a dictionary before play begins to avoid ugly confrontations. --Lynne Sampson

A terrific game for the digital age!
Scrabble - deluxe, electronic, regular and travel editions, has been a tradition in our family for three generations. Even as technology becomes ubiquitous in our personal and professional lives, a game of good old fashioned Scrabble anytime two or more family members or friends are gathered is still among the most entertaining activities! It's an occasion for camaraderie, competition and conversation that is likely to remain popular in the 21st century and I highly recommend it for people of all ages.

Don't understand why they made this
I don't understand why this was released as a "deluxe" edition. This board is horrible. It is made of cheap plastic, nothing like you would think for $30. I was very, very, very disappointed in this. If you are looking for a good scrabble board, look somewhere else, because this is not the one. I have an old one that is great, but it is dirty and old, so i wanted somthing new. I am sorry I bought this. I guess it could be good as an occasional toy, but not for serious scrabble lovers.

A great game diminished by cheap construction
Our family enjoys playing scrabble so much so that we decided to buy the 'Deluxe' version to solve some of the common problems we have playing the game on a regular board.
Needless to say I was thoroughly disappointed at the cheap, flimsy, plastic board I received in the box. I have seen other 'Deluxe' brands which my friends and relatives had bought years ago and was shocked at what is now being sold, at over double the price of the regular version. The old one I had looks as if it will outlast the 'Deluxe'.
I reduced the fun rating by 2 stars simply because I hate looking at this board. Save your money and don't buy this one.

                    Sorry
                    Made by Parker Brothers
                      Amazon base price: $15.99
                      List price: $16.99 (that's 6% off!)
This classic game of luck, strategy, and determination is easy to grasp for children as young as 6 years old, yet it's fun for adults and older siblings too. By drawing cards, players move their game pieces around the board, hoping to eventually accumulate all their pieces at the final destination--home sweet home. Sorry is known as the game of "sweet revenge," since players can send each other's pawns back to the starting line, thus forcing one another to lose ground and begin all over again. This kind of frustration may be hard for children under age 8 to handle. In fact, young ones typically crumble into tears of outrage when their pawns are cavalierly sent back. The only recourse is to teach children how to plot their own revenge, which makes them feel as powerful as superheroes.

                      TRAUMATIC CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
All I remember about this game is getting into fights with my brother when one of us would taunt they other with "sorry" (...)when we sent a piece back to the home square. This game taught revenge and frustration. you work so hard to try to get out of the starter box, only to be sent back in by a smart-aleck younger sibling. I hated this game, and would not inflict this kind of trauma on my young 'uns.

Great game for anyone to play
I've been playing Sorry! since I was a kid and it's still a great game to play. It's easy for young kids to learn how to play and it can teach them thinking skills and a little bit of strategy. It's pretty much a game based on luck and how well you use your strategy skills while you try to get your 4 pieces to home base. Me and my family still play this game sometimes and have a lot of fun. I know when I used to play it when I was a kid I would get mad when somebody would make me go back to start, so don't be surprised if you play the game with some kids if they get frustrated or upset while they're playing.

I recommend anybody to get Sorry! It's a game that any family can have a lot of fun playing together and it can teach kids some lessons in strategy and how to lose without getting mad.

My 8 year old nephew loves this game!
This game works well with 6-9 year olds. Based on random cards as well as strategy. Object is to get all four of your color pieces to your home by going around the board. Each number card means something different (i.e. 4 = go backwards 4 spaces; 11 = you may trade places with your opponent). Players who get a "Sorry" card get to send their opponent back to Start!
