Pretend & Play Telephone
Made by Learning Resources
Age Group: 36 months - 6 years
    Amazon base price: $29.99
Kids love to emulate adults around them--give them the pleasure of learning to use their very own phone with the Pretend & Play Teaching Telephone. The bright red and yellow plastic unit measures 7 inches across and has large buttons for easy use. Program in a number (your home, for example) and record a message for the kids to hear when they get it right. There's also an emergency message associated with 911 to teach them what to do when trouble strikes. Other fun features include speed dial and an 11-digit display. --Rob Lightner

A Special Toy For A Special Boy!
My son has autism, so I am constantly on the lookout for toys that will help him in everyday task. The phone is FANTASTIC! In only two day, he got the hang of the phone and learned his home phone number! The kicker was for praise, he heard mommy's voice saying, he got it right! No mechanical, strange voices! Good Job! Great Product!

Gets loads of play! Kids of all ages love this.
This toy can be used by babies and toddlers and up. Younger kids can use it simply as a pretend phone. When certain buttons are pressed there is a dial tone sound, a ringing sound, and a "busy signal" sound. My youngest was one year old when he began playing with this, randomly pressing buttons, listening, and really pretending to talk.

Older kids (5 or maybe 4) can use this as a teaching tool, with the parent. As described by the manufacturer (above) this has the capability to program in numbers, record your voice, and practice calling 911 or practice calling other important phone numbers.

So far we've only used the toy to play with during imaginative play. My kids have played with it so much that it is worth the cost. Kids who visit for playdates also gravitate to this toy and love to play with it. I highly recommend this as a great toy for pretend play.

Also great from this manufacturer is the pretend cash register.

        Safe Fire!
This is so cute my teenagers each want one. Silk "flame" flickers over blower/light, looks great in the dark so can be used as a nice night light and "background" noise machine. Would be a great atmosphere lamp in the living room while watching movies, too!

Problem with tea pot quickly resolved by manufacturer
My daughter received the Disney Princess tea set for her 2nd birthday from her grandparents. She absolutely loved it and played with it often. Less than two months later the tea pot started to short out and the voices/sounds would not play. I went to the manufacturer's web site (Thinkway Toys - www.thinkwaytoys.com) and looked up their customer service email address. I sent an email detailing the problem and asked how to go about getting a replacement. They responded quickly and happily replaced the teapot. I received the replacement with no hassle and very quickly (within a few days!). The replacement works great!! I am very pleased with their customer service. 5 stars for customer service!

The voices started to sound garbled
We bought this for our daughter at Christmas and after about 2 weeks, the voices on the teapod sounded staticy and garbled. The problem was NOT corrected with new batteries so I have contacted Thinkway toys (the manufacturer) and am waiting to see if they will replace the tea pot. My daughter still has tea parties but is dissapointed when she can't hear the princeses talke to her. We'll see what happens.

            Now it's ALWAYS tea time
We bought this tea set for our granddaughter this past Christmas. She's loved it from Day 1. We've told some other family members, who are now getting them to send to their relatives in Spain.

              We love Disney Princesses
My 18 month old daughter loves this mirror. When it tells her how beautiful her hair is she puts her forehead against the mirror and just smiles. She laughs out loud when it comes on and plays all the music as each princess introduces herself. Our biggest problem was that we thought our 5 year old son was going to wear the batteries out the first night:-)

We had a couple of Disney Princess items but this seals the deal. I already know the theme of this Christmas<<<- Plus we are going to get her the Castle bed so her room is going to be totally pink!

Great toy for your little princess
My 2 year old daughter received the talking mirror for x-mas last year. This is one of her favorite toys and still plays with it at least once a week. We have even purchased one for our friend's daughter who is the same age for Christmas this year. Very durable as my daughter and her 5 year old brother are very rough on their toys.

              old and youg alike
I bought this for my four year old niece who was tickled upon first sight. Eventually, her 18 month old brother became enamored and lugged it around with himself for days. I have seen it used for everything from hammering to chewing and it has maintained well.

              Talking Fashion Vanity: White
              Made by Toys "R" Us
              Age Group: 24 months - 5 years
                Amazon base price: $49.99
                List price: $59.99 (that's 17% off!)
Imagine if Barbie had played the stepmother in Snow White but she was really nice and everyone liked her a lot. If that was the case, this is the kind of "Mirror, Mirror" she would go to for advice. Lights flash when you turn on this electronic vanity and a friendly voice tells you, "It's time to get ready." Besides two mirrors and a chair, the vanity features a pretend-play hair dryer, a comb, two pretend lipsticks, and two pretend bottles of nail polish. The voice, which sounds like a helpful teenage sister, makes encouraging comments about whatever prop you pick up ("Your hair is beautiful"). An additional drawer is provided for storing your own costume jewelry. --John Moe

                Wonderful Purchase
My husband and I knew we needed to get a vanity for our 2 year old when she wouldn't get off of mine without a struggle. We looked at both this one and the nice, fancy wood ones at furniture stores. This one was a quarter of the price which made up our minds. It is so cute and she loves it. It isn't any more anoying than any of her other talking toys and I love that she now leaves my vanity alone. I set it up right next to mine and she loves to get ready while Mommy does too. My four year old son likes it too, but I think that is only because of it being new.

                It's perfect!
This item is certainly worth the money. My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves it! A friendly girl's voice comments on each item the child removes, and then reminds them to put it back! The mirrors both come with protective coverings, so they are both free of flaws when you are done assembling the vanity. There are extra places for their own items, such as hair holders or brushes. All of the accessories (The lipstick and nail polish) are plastic, so it's all imagination. A perfect toy for your little girl! Easy assembly!

                Great Toy
You have to love Little Tikes toys if you are a parent! They hold up, very durable, and they have good designs that keep children interested! My daughter received this as a 2nd birthday gift from her grandmother. We weren't sure if she was old enough for it; but, she figured it out right away! She is now over 3 years old and still plays with it once a day. She knows exactly how to make all of it work and she loves to sit down and 'put her makeup on' brush her hair and use it for playing dress up. This is a terrific toy and I would highly recommend it!

                Shopping Cart Pretend & Learn
                Made by LeapFrog
                Age Group: 24 months - 5 years
                  Amazon base price: $33.99

With LeapFrog’s Pretend and Learn Shopping Cart children can have fun and learn while grocery shopping. This interactive shopping cart encourages open-ended, imaginative play and introduces fundamental math skills to preschoolers. Play begins with the easy-to-use scanner attached to the basket. Start by selecting one of three learning modes: Explore, Learn, or Shopping Games. Buddy Tad will start the fun by asking what items need to be scanned. As a child picks and scans the items, Tad will encourage and help them along with fun songs and clues. Kids can learn about colors, food groups, quantities, counting, and healthy facts about food. As with all LeapFrog products, children will develop language skills, reasoning skills, exploration and creativity, cognitive development, and gross motor skills. If quiet play is desired simply switch the cart to the Off position and let your child explore and learn on their own. The shopping cart requires minimal assembly and is made of durable plastic with smooth, rounded corners for small hands to grab easily. It measures 22 inches high and stands sturdily on the wide base and four solid wheels. Requires three AA batteries (not included).

                  Is best with cash register
I purchased this cart and cash register for my 18mo girl and she loved the cart but when i showed her the cash register she loved that even more. She also climbed in and out of the cart and loves scanning the food on the cash register. I give it 5 stars b/c of its compatibility with the cash register. However I only paid 20 bucks for it and 15 for register and probably wouldnt have paid any more than that for them. She's had the toys for 2 months now and still plays w/them, which is good for a now 20 mo toddler.

                  A Good Cart But...
My two year old son got tired of it very quickly. While it's more educational than your run of the mill shopping cart, I feel that it's a bit limited in its educational value. I guess if your child doesn't already know colors and numbers then it would be more worthwhile. It's not a good cart for pretend food shopping because there isn't much room in the cart. The worst part is that the volume is right on top by the game selection. What were they thinking?? We ended up putting a piece of tape over it because my son had more fun turning up the volume than he did "shopping" with the cart. I love Leap Frog products but this isn't one of our favorites. I think a child would have more pretend fun with an inexpensive cart and a bunch of different types of play food.

I personally think this is a great toy and it's so cute but my kids have seemed to grow bored with it rather quickly. I was disipointed, I thought they would just love it. Over all I do think it's a great toy.

                  Smarty's Workshop
                  Made by VTech Industries
                  Age Group: 36 months - 7 years
                    Amazon base price: $29.99

Smarty, a robot character who gestures and speaks, is designed to teach kids about numbers, shapes, and colors by engaging them in a number of home improvement projects. First the good points: Smarty, who is a kind of mechanical Bob the Builder, is nicely modeled, and his gestures really bring him to life, giving the feeling that he is actually talking to you. Likewise the included plastic tools are solid, chunky, and fun to hold and use. The bad news: the activities are repetitive and unsatisfying, the sound is unclear, and the learning content is questionable. The biggest problem is that the projects, which include building a pool and a picture frame, bear little relation to the activities that produce them, like hitting the red peg three times. When you complete a task, Smarty says "Good job!" and a highly pixilated image of whatever you just built appears. Not very satisfying--especially long term. Still, with music, talking, sawing, hammering, and all the rest, there is a lot for a child to do, even if it doesn't add up to a very meaningful experience. Bottom line: Smarty's Workshop looks great, and could still be fun despite some shortcomings. --David Stoesz

Take's a licking and keeps on ticking!
Smarty is great fun for both my two year old and my three year old. He is a little advanced for the two year old who doesn't count yet, but he holds up well to the abuse inflicted on him. I have never had a problem with Smarty locking up or breaking. I am amazed at all the things Smarty does for such a reasonable price!

                    Worth the time and money
My son is receptive delayed. So when he was playing with this more and more enabling him to take and follow directions, I was thrilled! He feels so proud when he finishes a project. And he loves being able to "build" things on his own.

It's a very positive toy, also, because it tells the person operating it "bravo done" and "very good."

The only durability problem I see is that he figured out early on how to remove the pencil from the hard hat when it's part of the function of the toy.

                    Always Breaking
I usually like v-tech toys although I had two Smarty's and I was not buying a third. I had to keep taking the batteries out to reset it, it was not worth the agravation. I was very dissapointed.

                      Lots of fun
My daughter received this as an Xmas gift. She just loved it. of course it can be a little dangerous when she's waving it around but it's great fun.

                      Loud
My daughter only plays with it for about 3 minutes at a time and its LOUD no volume control its pretty cute but not really worth the money maybe she'll enjoy it after she plays with all the other toys she got for christmas.

And now you can be a magical princess too
How cute is this. This was bought for my daughter who is 2. She loves it. She waves it around and grants us all our wish...Its really cute and my 6 year old loves to dress up and play with it too.
