    Great for 5 year olds!
I bought this for my 5 year old niece and she loves it. We used up almost all the mixes over one weekend because she was enjoying it so much. I liked that fact that everything was no-bake so that she couldn't burn herself. I have to admit that although the food is edible, it doesn't taste very good. However, she loves making the food so much that she doesn't even care.

    Reconsider
I bought this for my 5 year old daughter for chirstmas. First, it is extremely messy. Second, it is not durable. It didn't hold up well. Third, it doesn't work anymore. It only lasted for a couple of months. I would strongly recommend reconsidering if you want to purchase this toy. It's just not worth it.

      Hot Wheels Teaches Chemistry!
Outstanding toy! Great looking, bigger than I expected. Not really a need for more Nitrox2 as the whole purpose is to get kids to experiment with different common household spices and beverages (ie: cranberry juice and baking soda). The kids keep trying until they figure out what it IS that makes this car go! Really and truly, if you know chemistry at all it won't take long to help your child, but let them learn some scientific principles and have fun doing it!

Most played with toy in our house
I bought this for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas last year and she loves it. My 4 year old also has a great time playing with it. They have another Ello set and they combine the 2 sets for even more people and animals. This toy keeps them entertained for a long time. I have recommended it to a lot of people.

        Pieces slip apart
My 5 yr old was very excited and persistent about putting the pieces together according to the picture. This wasn't easy, and when I tried to help her, I found that the pieces for putting together the animals, were not molded to fit together, but are shaped in such a way that they can't grip each other. So we could get the animals put together a few seconds, and then the pieces would slip apart.

We did not find this to be true with the non-jungle related parts, such as the blocks which snap on to the rectangular pieces. However I was very disappointed with this product overall, and will probably try to bring it back.

more fun than painted on hair!!
i think this is totally fun. my daughter is a litle young to get into the whole styling of the hair, but i sure had a blast. true, the hair doesnt crimp for crap, but you can make some pretty rad spirals. i also liked that the clothes were real fabric-they were more stylish and trendy that way, even tho they dont hold up to the wear and tear as well. polly is an all around great toy. my daughter is only three, and we have been buying polly for almost a year now. i found that even f she has a bit of trouble dresing them here and there, she is alot les frustrated than trying to dress a barbie at this age. they are like an easier version of barbie. and we actually havent lost any pieces, because i bought a plastic chest of drawers rigth away with my first polly purchase, just because i saw that coming.

          don't waste your money
i bought this toy with my money and i think it was a waste. her clothes slip off and the crimper does not even work. i played with this toy 5 times!

          Flavas Kiyoni Brown: Street Style
          Made by Mattel
          Age Group: 6 - 12 years
            Amazon base price: $9.98
            List price: $13.99 (that's 29% off!)
With its Flavas line of edgy teen personalities, Mattel breaks from its traditional fashion-doll creations to take on the streets. The ultrastylish unit is all grit and graffiti, but its hip style is as innocent and innovative as urban kids are in reality. The striking Kiani Brown--the only member of the Flavas crew with a last name, curiously--comes with two street style outfits that include a funky, faux leopard cap. She also has two pairs of shoes, a necklace, a purse, a boom box, a hairbrush for ultrablond locks, and removable fashion decals for her human friends. She's fully articulated, with jointed elbows and knees, so she can get down dancing or striking poses on her included street stand. --Diane Beall

            Worst ever
This doll is the worse doll i have ever played with in my whole intire life and i have played with alot of crappy dolls. this one is the worse of all. these dolls are not anything like barbie. i think matell is desprate for money becuase they are making dolls like street hookers. my freind loves these dolls and she says she wants to grow up to be just like one. i would not want to grow up living like one. I would not recomend these dolls to anyone who wants to live a normal life

            Ghetto Dolls
Why not rename these dolls from "Flavas" to "Barbie and the Ghetto Gang"? I admit I do like these dolls, but PLEASE!!! Don't give them such slutty clothes. Where's Mattel's modesty? They look like they're from the south side of a major city and the missing accessories these dolls need are pretend bags of illegal (...).

            Why?!
Okay.. explain to me.. why you would let your child play with this doll. ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE AFRICAN AMERICAN!!!!! Okay.. first of all.. why does the black doll haveta have fake looking blonde weave down to her butt?! I must be the only woman in the world that thinks that the only black woman who looks good with blonde hair is Beyonce, and she only half counts cause she's mixed anyway. Why don't you make dolls that look like real black women? With shoulder length, black hair.. maybe even natural hair.. I think that our children would enjoy playing with dolls like that a lot more. And why does she have to have a ton of makeup on? She looks like she just got caught in the crossfire of a Maybelline drive by. Her outfit is skanky.. and she is the least dressed of all the female dolls.. explain that to me. All the white/hispanic girls are either showing leg, or belly, but not both, so why does the black chick have to look like someone just attacked her outfit with a pair of scissors?! I don't like these dolls for the same reason that I really don't like Barbie dolls. They promote an unrealistic image of minority women. Barbies teach little black and hispanic girls that you're supposed to look like a Barbie that's stayed out in the sun too long, and these stupid dolls teach them that you're supposed to look like some slut from a rap video.. Why can't there be a happy medium?! We need to start watching the things that we let our little girls watch and play with.

            Dora The Explorer Game
            Made by Mattel
            Age Group: 36 months - 7 years
              Amazon base price: $12.99
Bilingual Dora the Explorer is on her way to Play Park, and the object of this game is to help her get there using the clues stored in Dora's backpack. Younger children will have fun guiding Dora--the popular star of her own TV series--and her friends through a variety of simple challenges to get to the park. Unlike many single-winner games for younger kids, the idea here is to get all the players to the end so that everyone can be declared the winner. Though some adults may see this team approach as defeating the purpose of playing a game, it leads to substantially less tears and frustration for preschoolers just learning what games are all about. Like the series, the game offers fun lessons in Spanish along the way. --John Moe

              Don't be fooled
into buying this for your Dora afficianado. It's Candy Land lite--much, much shorter and less interesting. I have 4 year old twins who love Dora, but they lost interest in this game after playing it just a couple of times. And both had trouble with the spinner.

              Learn Spanish????
I bought this game because it said on the box "learn some spanish along the way". There is no spanish involved in the game or on the cards or board anywhere. The only spanish is on the spanish instructions for the game. So unless you already know spanish, you cannot teach your child any spanish.

I also expected the puzzles to be more challenging. But the answers are right there on the corner of each clue card. This is not shown on the box either. It leads you to believe that you will encounter an obstacle and then you'll look in Dora's backpack to figure out which object will get you around the obstacle. But since the answer is on the obstacle card for everyone to see, you don't have to think about it. They basically made what could have been good for developing problem solving skills into a match game.

I think this game is only appropriate as a first game for 2-4 yr old children depending upon their ability. It is basically a very short Candy Land game.

The educational value of the game is in learning colors, counting and observation. None of which are even mentioned on the box.

Just alot of Fun - Even for 4 year olds
My son who just turned 4 got this for his birthday gift. Was it challenging? Not really but he had fun with it -- He and his 5-year old friend played it on their own (with no adult help) several times in a row. My son, even taught his Dad how to play the game. My son would set up all the cards, put the appropriate cards in backpack etc. Simple? YES! But really fun to play and for a Dora fan more fun than Candyland.

My son is an avid gamer and won't be satified with really simple games that just have matching. This one meets all his criteria -- you get to spin, move your character and then there are actions/activities depending on where you land!

You either love it or hate it!
We play this game as a family, and either my husband or I set it up. The plastic rods are fine, but if my five year old got a hold of them they would be snapped in half almost instantly. IF you decide to buy this toy be prepared: an adult or older child will have to set it up. Putting in the rods takes time and patience. Also, be vigilant with the pieces-- they are not meant for younger children because of the choking hazzard (the marbles) and the frustration level of setting up the game. Great for family night fun, but not good if you're hoping the kids will play quietly for a while while you get something else done!

                A Piece of Junk
This game has ended up in the trash bin--it's made of cheap plastic, falls apart easily, it's difficult to get all the sticks in, nobody wants to put the sticks back in because that's very boring. I think my memory has failed me--I thought this used to be a fun game when my kids were little--I sure don't remember all the hassles with it. But I've noticed the quality of games/toys nowadays can be very poor--so many cheezy, cheapo parts. Save your money and buy something else.

                DON'T buy this!
I bought this toy for my five year-old because I saw it recommended in one of the parenting magazines. It is loud and obnoxious. Sometimes it just makes noise for no reason. It falls apart easily. Save your money for something else!

                YU-GI-OH! Duel Monsters Arena Playset
                Made by Mattel
                Age Group: 4 - 10 years
                  Amazon base price: $14.98
                  List price: $21.99 (that's 32% off!)
This is essentially an accessory to aid in playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game--not strictly necessary, but flashy and fun. There are four slots for two players facing each other to set up their cards in strategic ways, and a special "golden slot" closest to each player. There are also 10 special hologram-style cards that come with the playset. The coolest thing, though, is that the set doubles as a holder for Yu-Gi-Oh! action figures. When you turn the set over, there are special chambers for each figure, which are held in place by a cagelike grid for dramatic display. This might not be for every Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, but perfect for someone who wants to add a little flash to the game and have a convenient carrying case for the figures. --David Stoesz

                  I love it!
Alright, I'm twelve, but I'm a big fan of the card game and I liked to play with the small guys and pretend they were prisoners(sometimes). I agree with my sister Woodsfairy that it kept me organised and saved the toys from getting lost and my sister from stubbed toes.

Great organizer and fun when used with imagination!
My 6 year old son owns approximately 50 little figurines. I purchased the arena as an organizer and it was worth every penny. All 50 figurines would have been lost if not for the arena. In addition to holding figurines, it can be turned upside down to resemble the dueling field on the tv shows. My son uses a lot of imagination and duels with his figurines using the arena and a lot of sound effects. I have stuffed all of the figurines in it and still manage to close it, and it has not fallen apart yet. We have had it since it was first released ... My son takes it to friends houses to play and it is a favorite to all.

                    Don't waste you $$$$$
The box says Polly Pocket can "race her friends down the slide". Yeah sure. You have to push her down the slide which falls apart as she goes down. My sweet 5 year old wasted her birthday money on this and is so disappointed.

You get what you pay for....
This is our first polly pocket toy in our home. So this is new for us. It is a fun looking toy with MANY tiny parts to keep track of. My 3.5 yr old daughter really likes it...even her brother has been caught playing with it.

However, I have to agree with the others that the slide is hard to assemble. Firstly, the directions are not correctly pictured which makes it hard. But once it was assembled, and pushed in REALLY hard and TIGHT...it actually did stay together for US.

Some things that broke the day we bought them were: the bathing suit broke a strap when my daughter tried to get it off. The hat strap (elastic chin strap) broke. The rubber clothing is definetely NOT durable, and VERY hard for a child to dress her. If you don't mind helping every time your child feels like changing the outfit, this may not be an issue for you.

One thing I would have liked to see: another doll. Polly has to swim alone with a seal...she needs a friend esp. if your child wants to play with another child. The seal goes well down the slide, but Polly does not slip down the slide with her rubber bathing suits on...they are too sticky.

Polly's hair changes color but you have to use refrigerated water. We just used water that came from the ice dispenser on our fridge and it worked...which my daughter found cool.

Okay but here is another point. It is only $12-13. I don't consider this an expensive toy that will get passed down to my kid's kids...but it will be fun for a couple seasons, you DO get what you pay for in this case.

                    Polly's Pool= A Bust
My neighbor is 7 years old, and she recieved this castle as a gift. Her mom sat down for 10-20 minutes trying to assemble it. As she finished, we walked out the door, and the pieces fell apart right in my hands. Polly can't even succesfully slide down into the pool with or without the toys. It's not durable, it's not exactly fun, and I don't think it's educational. One of my least favorite Polly toys.

                    Air Snares Drum Game
                    Made by Mattel

"Thank you! Thank you (insert your town's name here)! Are you ready to rock?" With Mattel's Air Snares, dream drumming comes packaged as its own status "cymbal." In the kit are two battery-powered drumstick wands with control buttons for the tempo and percussion effects. Included are instructions for a pair of Simon-like games, such as repeating the drum rhythm played by the programmed game, eliciting either electronic "Boo"s or cheers, depending on your success. But it's the noncompetitive, free play air-drummer mode, allowing players to accompany a simple melody line with a selection of drum effects, that'll ensnare wannabes. --Tony Mason

My 10 year old daughter really likes this toy. It's a lot of fun. But I agree that it is impossible to play without the user manual/instructions. We lost the user manual but I just called Mattel and they sent it to us electronically. In the US: 800-524-TOYS (800-524-8697) In Canada: 800-665-6288. They also said they could mail it to us if we had problems getting from our email. Mattel was VERY helpful!! Don't give up on this toy. It can be really fun if you take the time and use the instructions!
