this is the most strange barbie i have ever seen!

With the knobby tires I thought it would be good for almost any surface, but was proven wrong. Unless you use this on concrete, hard dirt, or a tabletop, it will just sit there groaning, "Hey, Stupid, I can't drive on grass!"
So, pay a little more, get a little more. You can never go wrong with that approach.

Boring
Just a little too easy
good for younger players

I ask, because as great and seemingly durable as this little SpongeBob race set is, had anybody in the Mattel boardroom actually tried to play it they would have quickly realized what a Festival of Frustration it is.
When you open the box, you're bound to be delighted by the brightly colored cardboard punch-out set decorations and the really super SpongeBob and Patrick "boats" (slot cars), which feel nice and hefty and solid. Once you've figured out how to put the track together (was it too difficult to actually label the tracks with the same letters by which the instructions refer to them?), and hooked up the power pack and the controllers (kudos for being battery powered, rather than requiring a wall socket, though the option for both would have been nice -- four "D" batteries ain't cheap), the next thing you're going to do, logically, is place the cars on the track and give a controller a squeeze.
And then the NEXT thing you're going to do is get up off your knees and go get the car and put it back on the track. Another squeeze, another track departure, another retrieval. Repeat ad nauseum. Or at least until your kid decides it's more fun to throw the controller at the little cardboard set decorations -- something which you may find yourself in agreement with.
Put simply, these sturdy plastic boat cars are ponderously heavy and too fast for their own good, which means they are highly susceptible to inertia: squeeze lightly and they do not move, just buzz plaintively. Squeeze just ever-so-slightly too hard and they go from standstill to Mario Andretti to Evel Kneivel in under a second, forcing you to spend 80 to 90 percent of your time crawling over to them and putting them back on the track.
And if YOU think that sounds annoying, wait until you see your preteen's reaction.
I did not personally experience any problem with the track coming apart, as some reviewers have mentioned. But that may be because Patrick and Bob spent the lion's share of their time extratrackular.
My son likes to play with the cars without the track because it just doesn't work well enough with them on the track.
I should have returned this.

As you might expect from any licensed Barbie game, this title is designed to appeal to young girls. While there is plenty of pleasant eye candy for beginning gamers, this game clearly encourages players to engage in low-stress fun that requires little hand-eye coordination. Instead, Barbie Race & Ride is more about exploration and, in some cases, adventure. The game does reward persistent players with access to a much-fabled "secret ranch." For gamers that want to take a break from the saddle, there is an opportunity to wash and groom your horse in the barn.
Barbie Race & Ride succeeds in offering a friendly, nonviolent exploration environment for beginning gamers. Older brothers, beware! --Brett Atwood
Pros:
- Race with a friend in 2-player competition mode
- Colorful trails and happy environments
Cons:
- Controls can be awkward

Fun...If You Haven't Had BetterMattel obviously has no idea what girls who have the ability of playing video games want in them. We are forced to ride chunky, ugly horses with unrealistic animations (horses stretch their necks outwards when jumping rather than flinging them upwards. This makes the obstacle course very hard) in environments that look painted-on and thrown together. Barbie is constantly stopping your ride to make you watch squirrels hop across branches, and there are only two gates to choose from (canter and gallop) I wouldn't have such a problem with this if canter wasn't so slow; it slows down the surrounding area so it's just like riding in slow-mo. The firefly game was very difficult for me when I was young and it took me near forever to figure out that you just open the lid near the firefly and it flies in.
All in all, this game is one of the dusty ones in my collection. I would suggest Mary-Kate and Ashley's Winner's Circle for older girls, and Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue for younger ones.
Could be better!
For Barbie Lover's

The 'modelling clay' could use some help, or just don't put it in there. You can make your own hair styles and other things with the clay and glitter, but the hair, once dried throroughly, will not go on Polly's head. Perhaps this was not the point, but if you leave it moist, it just smashes all over the place.
I did not buy this toy from Amazon (sorry, Amazon!) because it was an impulse buy at a local store. However, I think that maybe the makers of Polly have heard your complaints and have corrected the problems. I suggest taking another look at this one.

I have finally stored it away. I will bring it back out when my son is old enough to put it back together by himself. Maybe at that time we will feel like we got our money's worth, since he really does enjoy the concept of the toy.
Also, only the flatter Hotwheels and Matchbox cars fit into it. All the fire trucks and similar size vehichles, if you can get them into it will get stuck. This toy requires a lot of parental repair, and/or extraction, i.e., about every 20 seconds. Plenty of frustration for us!
I do have to say, that so far, none of the pieces have actually broken off, they just pop off easily, so it is technically reparable, so far....
but this is alot betty then that stupid hair cuting barbie DON'T GET THE HAIR CUTTING BARBIE A WAST OF MONEY!!!!! and the hair is wayyy to long i use her with my friends cosin i play her as repunzle
