Wish it ran better over rough terrain
Although it can't run over grass and is prone to flipping, this toy is still a good deal for your money. Usually I just run it inside the family room so I do not need rouph terrain features. It is a great toy to learn how to drive rc's on, as it is extremely durable. Since I am new to rc's, I have crashed it into almost everything in the house and it still works great. If you just want a cheap RC to run around the house, this would be a great buy.

Pay a little more, get a little more
      Not satisfied with the performance.

With the knobby tires I thought it would be good for almost any surface, but was proven wrong. Unless you use this on concrete, hard dirt, or a tabletop, it will just sit there groaning, "Hey, Stupid, I can't drive on grass!"

So, pay a little more, get a little more. You can never go wrong with that approach.

      Boring
Six year old daughter, loves Barbie, but found this game boring. She wants to return it for a better game.

      Just a little too easy
I got this game for my 9th birthday. I zipped through it in less than an hour. It's probably better for kids under 7. My 7 year-old sister also beat it fast. The colors are great. The dolphin maze is a little hard, but the rest of the games are pretty easy. It might be better if there were some danger involved (like a shark or squid) and Barbie had to face it. Compared to Pokemon and Toy Story II, this game is really easy, the easiest of all the Gameboy games I have.

      good for younger players
"Barbie Ocean Discovery" is a game about Barbie having to find a secret underwater treasure. To do this she needs to overcome a challenge like a maze or a picture puzzle. When she finishes a challenge she gets a piece of a map that will lead her to the secret treasure, or a gem that will serve as one of the keys that will help her open the treasure. For a girl my age this role-playing game was pretty boring with very little difficulty and one that I finished in about half an hour, but I think a 5- or 6-year old little girl might enjoy this more.

Hot Wheels Racing SpongeBob SquarePants Race Set
      Made by Mattel
      Age Group: 8 - 12 years
        Amazon base price: $19.99
Okay, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that SpongeBob SquarePants and his starfish friend Patrick are racing around in cars. They live under the sea, after all. Wouldn’t the cars, you know, float away? But "sense" is something best dispensed of when exploring SpongeBob’s world. We are, after all, talking about a necktie-wearing kitchen sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea. This cool little racetrack is sure to please the SpongeBob faithful with thoughtfully detailed set pieces such as the Krusty Krab restaurant, and the homes of both SpongeBob and Patrick. The set features many pieces and takes a while to set up. As for the actual racing part of the set, it works fairly well, even if the cars are on the pokey side. --Charlie Williams

        Just not worth it
My son recieved this for Christmas. Most of the time the cars simply will not move now because of the poorly built cars. I remember as a child instead of these quickly degrading bits of metal twisted together there were actual metal bands which would make the cars move. The track does go together well, and stayed together for me. But when you first try the cars out they move much to quickly and fly off the track(until the braids wear out and they refuse to move-which takes only a few days). I have yet to find any race tracks these days which are made properly.

Is playtesting before marketing a lost art?
Doesn't anybody playtest toys anymore before they toss them onto the market? Or is it enough that they look great and have a sure-fire cartoon character tie-in?

I ask, because as great and seemingly durable as this little SpongeBob race set is, had anybody in the Mattel boardroom actually tried to play it they would have quickly realized what a Festival of Frustration it is.

When you open the box, you're bound to be delighted by the brightly colored cardboard punch-out set decorations and the really super SpongeBob and Patrick "boats" (slot cars), which feel nice and hefty and solid. Once you've figured out how to put the track together (was it too difficult to actually label the tracks with the same letters by which the instructions refer to them?), and hooked up the power pack and the controllers (kudos for being battery powered, rather than requiring a wall socket, though the option for both would have been nice -- four "D" batteries ain't cheap), the next thing you're going to do, logically, is place the cars on the track and give a controller a squeeze.

And then the NEXT thing you're going to do is get up off your knees and go get the car and put it back on the track. Another squeeze, another track departure, another retrieval. Repeat ad nauseum. Or at least until your kid decides it's more fun to throw the controller at the little cardboard set decorations -- something which you may find yourself in agreement with.

Put simply, these sturdy plastic boat cars are ponderously heavy and too fast for their own good, which means they are highly susceptible to inertia: squeeze lightly and they do not move, just buzz plaintively. Squeeze just ever-so-slightly too hard and they go from standstill to Mario Andretti to Evel Kneivel in under a second, forcing you to spend 80 to 90 percent of your time crawling over to them and putting them back on the track.

And if YOU think that sounds annoying, wait until you see your preteen's reaction.

I did not personally experience any problem with the track coming apart, as some reviewers have mentioned. But that may be because Patrick and Bob spent the lion's share of their time extratrackular.

        Don't bother
Honestly...this is one of those toys that is a big waste of money. The cars fall off the track too easily, the cardboard scenes are a major pain and just fall off and don't stand up properly and the overall track isn't very durable. It was a huge disappointment.

My son likes to play with the cars without the track because it just doesn't work well enough with them on the track.

        I should have returned this.

BOGUS - Cars instead of Action Figures
Yeah, now Amazon has changed the product title...after I ordered it and my 5-year-old was in tears! It stated "3 Pack Figures" with no reference to vehicles whatsoever. Without the picture (before ordering) I called Mattel Customer Service and they assured me it was actual ACTION FIGURES, not cars. What do I get?? Cars that I do not want nor expected. At the time I'm writing this I'm assuming Amazon will fully reimburse me for ALL COSTS involved - the sale, the tax, the shipping here and the shipping back. Now I just have to call Mattel and find out who the heck sells the Action Figures. Thanks, Amazon...

          Action Figures or Cars???
The description of the product is misleading and without a picture one would believe the word figures refers to action figures. Not cars. When I contacted Amazon about the mistake, they sent me a new order, and I once again received cars. Very, very frustrating

            Not worth the money
Certainly not worth the money. No dolls included and furniture only included a couch, tub and crib. It was very disappointing when we received it.

Cute outside but doesn't compare to other houses
I really like the color scheme and exterior details, but for the price there should either be more furniture included, or there should be enough room inside for extra furniture. The Dream Houses from the late 70's and early 80's had loads more room inside, and much more in the way of accessories. Even the old three story townhouse was more interesting! Don't waste your money!

            FUN!
I love this barbie toy. It is my favorite! Their details makes the barbie house, FUN! I love the house very much. I am most likely to get it. The house is fun for all barbie lovers. If your a barbie lover, check out the Barbie Talking Townhouse for more fun! Bye!

Batman Deluxe Figure: Night Patrol Armor Batman
            Made by Mattel
              Amazon base price: $11.99
This Batman Deluxe Figure has so much going on it's hard to know where to start. One of three Batman Deluxe Figures, Night Patrol Armor Batman is a highly detailed and sculpted action figure, appropriate for the collector and any fan of Batman toys. Night Patrol Armor Batman sports a gold colored breast plate and thigh guards, a utility belt with hoses that connect at the knees, a see-through visor covers his standard-issue batman mask, his cape is made of cloth, and silvery blue armor covers his muscular frame. His armaments are a shield and the Batarang launcher. We had quite a bit of trouble figuring out how to attach the shield, and the Batarang launcher was hard to use. We found this to be true with the other two Batman deluxe figures; there are no instructions, and other than the pictures on the packaging, no guidance as how to use or attach the weaponry. --Megan Sullivan

              Great figure, poor accessories!
This action figure COULD have been great. The figure itself is durable and my son really likes it. But none of the accessories that came with it work properly. They will not stay on, and they don't perform the actions that they are supposed to. So they were tossed aside, and the figure gets used by itself. We've been finding the same thing with all the mattel action figures that he has.

              Eh
This figure although it has a great sculpt and character supporting it seems to lack in color appeal. I'm not big on the color scheme of this Batman, is he a circus clown or a dark knight? I don't think Mattel can tell!

Plastic icon Barbie stars in this playful game, which enables gamers to ride horseback on five different nature trails filled with various obstacles. Each trail is peppered with lightweight challenges (such as jumping over an occasional log or stream). There are also a few surprises that you will encounter on the various trails, including some mini-arcade games that are triggered by certain events. As you move through each trail, the game takes an unusual first-person perspective that shows your view from atop the horse. Game environments include a snowy mountain path, a grassy meadow, and a warm beach. The pre-rendered animation is fairly smooth and colorful, but controlling the moves of your horse can be a bit awkward. This game is designed to be compatible with Sony's dual shock controllers, which allow players to feel each bump and rumble.

As you might expect from any licensed Barbie game, this title is designed to appeal to young girls. While there is plenty of pleasant eye candy for beginning gamers, this game clearly encourages players to engage in low-stress fun that requires little hand-eye coordination. Instead, Barbie Race & Ride is more about exploration and, in some cases, adventure. The game does reward persistent players with access to a much-fabled "secret ranch." For gamers that want to take a break from the saddle, there is an opportunity to wash and groom your horse in the barn.

Barbie Race & Ride succeeds in offering a friendly, nonviolent exploration environment for beginning gamers. Older brothers, beware! --Brett Atwood

              Pros:

              • Race with a friend in 2-player competition mode
              • Colorful trails and happy environments

              Cons:

              • Controls can be awkward

              Fun...If You Haven't Had Better
I bought this game 4 years ago (in grade three) as an alternative to an older favorite of mine, Barbie Riding Club (which I had outgrown) in the hopes that it would allow more freedom like riding off of the trail, stopping wherever you may please and competing in a more realistic fashion. Once I turned ten, I realized what a mistake it was.

Mattel obviously has no idea what girls who have the ability of playing video games want in them. We are forced to ride chunky, ugly horses with unrealistic animations (horses stretch their necks outwards when jumping rather than flinging them upwards. This makes the obstacle course very hard) in environments that look painted-on and thrown together. Barbie is constantly stopping your ride to make you watch squirrels hop across branches, and there are only two gates to choose from (canter and gallop) I wouldn't have such a problem with this if canter wasn't so slow; it slows down the surrounding area so it's just like riding in slow-mo. The firefly game was very difficult for me when I was young and it took me near forever to figure out that you just open the lid near the firefly and it flies in.

All in all, this game is one of the dusty ones in my collection. I would suggest Mary-Kate and Ashley's Winner's Circle for older girls, and Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue for younger ones.

              Could be better!
I was hoping to find a quality game for girls in the 7-10 year range but was disappointed in Barbie Race and Ride. Although the graphics were acceptable there was not a whole lot of different things to do. For example in the obstacle course, the horses reins have no effect on the direction the horse rides. It would be better if one could actually direct the horse on these 'trails' rather than simply moving the horses head. I wish someone would develop a quality, non-violent video game for girls in this age group.

              For Barbie Lover's
Choose and name your horse-then: -Five trails to ride in day or night. -Challenging games and puzzles.-Race at beach or in meadow. -Timed competitions. -Jump over streams, logs and obstacles. Solve all levels for surprise at mystery ranch. For Barbie fans only!

i think this is just fine
a lot of people have been saying in their reviews, that it breks easily, it is a piece of junk and all those type of things about this toy. my neighbor has this and when i used to like polly pockets (when i was younger) we used to play with it for a long time!!! there were nooo problems with it at all

At least one positive review for this toy is needed...
After having read the reviews posted here, I decided not to buy this toy, but when we were out shopping and found it for half price, I decided to take a closer look. I do not remember exact quotes here, but I do remember seeing a comment that the escalator does not work and will not fit on the mall. This is either untrue, or has been fixed. It is made out of plastic with one 'step' attached to a rubber conveyor. Granted, it will not move Polly up to the top without a little help, but my 4-year-old loves it. The only cardboard toys I found inside the box were two shopping bags, credit cards and some floor coverings. Everything else is either sturdy plastic, or normal Polly Pocket rubber.
The 'modelling clay' could use some help, or just don't put it in there. You can make your own hair styles and other things with the clay and glitter, but the hair, once dried throroughly, will not go on Polly's head. Perhaps this was not the point, but if you leave it moist, it just smashes all over the place.
I did not buy this toy from Amazon (sorry, Amazon!) because it was an impulse buy at a local store. However, I think that maybe the makers of Polly have heard your complaints and have corrected the problems. I suggest taking another look at this one.

                Hot Wheels Cargo Plane Set
                Made by Mattel
                Age Group: 4 - 12 years
                  Amazon base price: $9.99
                  List price: $14.99 (that's 33% off!)
Kids can transport up to six Hot Wheels cars in this 21-inch-long military-style camouflage cargo plane. Made of sturdy plastic, the plane has rear cargo doors that snap open, allowing kids to plunk in a few of their little metal cars. Then they can zoom the plane down the runway on its little plastic wheels and head for imaginary destinations. To unload cars, simply pop open the front hatch, pull out the ramp, and let the cars slide out. The ramp tends to stick and the front cargo doors are difficult to shut, which could be a potential source of frustration for younger kids whose fine motor skills are still developing. The plane has detachable engines, tail fin, and wings. The wings, in fact, tend to pop off spontaneously during vigorous play, but they are easy to reattach. Requires no batteries--just a good imagination. Hot Wheels cars are sold separately. --Elisabeth Fredrickson

                  Not for boys under 5
We found this toy to break very easy. The doors, the ramp, the simulated engines, the tail - - all of it. In addition, the cars get stuck in the back of the plane when the ramp is open. Though categorized for ages 3 and above, I would not reccomend this toy to anyone who's child is under 5. It's enjoyment would be short lived as it was with my son.

                  A Zero for Durability!!
This toy looks fun, and for the one minute it was in one piece, my son really enjoyed it. As many other reviewers commented, it falls apart almost instantly. My dear 3 year old son really wants to play with it, so he incessantly brings it to me to put it back together. The front doors fall off, the wings come off, and even the engines on the wings come off easily.

I have finally stored it away. I will bring it back out when my son is old enough to put it back together by himself. Maybe at that time we will feel like we got our money's worth, since he really does enjoy the concept of the toy.

Also, only the flatter Hotwheels and Matchbox cars fit into it. All the fire trucks and similar size vehichles, if you can get them into it will get stuck. This toy requires a lot of parental repair, and/or extraction, i.e., about every 20 seconds. Plenty of frustration for us!

I do have to say, that so far, none of the pieces have actually broken off, they just pop off easily, so it is technically reparable, so far....

great toy for 5 and older
bought this toy for my son last year for x-mas. over the course of the year his mom misplaced it and its all he talks about that he wants from santa. Yes the wings come off with vigorous play (glue them on like i did) and the doors are a small problem (tape them with scotch tape so wouldnt open) he took the cars out the back and he loves this toy. Worth every dime i spent on it last year.
