    great toy
We bought this puzzle for our 10 year old daughter. 600 pieces seems to be the magic number. She gets frustrated with 1,000 piece puzzles, but anything under 500 is boring because she can finish it in 10 minutes. This is a great educational toy and you can't beat the price.

    Nieces and Nephew Loved It
I recently bought this puzzle for my nieces and nephews. Not only did they love the puzzle, but the whole family learned how little we knew about World Geography. Now I actually know that Cameroon is in South Africa. I recommend this for any young student or adult who desires to learn about the world we live in.

As retro arcade fanatics will attest, Klax was one of the most popular action/puzzle games in the arcades due to its simple and addictive gameplay. Unfortunately, the game is entirely unplayable without color, which has delayed the release of a hand-held version for the original black-and-white Game Boy. Now, with the advent of the Game Boy Color, Klax is back and just as fun as ever.

The game environment consists of five conveyor belts that terminate in five separate bins. The player controls a "bucket" used to catch colored tiles that come down the conveyor belt (up to five can be held at once). As you collect each tile, you must dump your loot into any one of the bins. If three or more tiles of the same color are lined up (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally), they are cleared, making room for more tiles. Play becomes frenzied in a hurry, so you'll have to have quick reflexes to survive higher levels. Small combo catches are incredibly easy to make, but complex patterns require more skill and dexterity. In addition to the original arcade game, this fast-paced game adds several modes of play. Klax is one of the better puzzle values for the Game Boy Color. --T. Byrl Baker

      Pros:

      • Simple controls
      • Addictive gameplay
      Cons:
      • Graphics could be better

      Ahhh Klax..
Klax.. as timeless as Tetris and Columns. Ported from system to system over the years, it's made a try at the Gameboy Color system. The graphics are dark, the brown tiles are hard to see (they blend in with the background of your drop-bin), and the gameplay gets furious. You have to love Klax to love this game, but I'd have to recommend Tetris DX first. The game remains true to its name, and there's nothing really new here except for a 'freestyle mode' where you don't play the game level by level (where you're required to make certain kinds of 'klaxes' or reach a point limit or use up a certain number of tiles before you can advance to the next level), but instead just play for points until your game is over. It's a decent game overall, and good for a quick diversion, but again, I would recommend adding this brain-game to your library if you know you already like Klax, and if you've already got (or can't find) Tetris DX.

      Klax Addiction
If you like games like Tetris, you'll love Klax. I'm currently on my second Klax cartridge, having given my first to a friend because I couldn't put it down! I didn't last long without it, although it took me a while to find another. It's always challenging and has great graphics, however it's a little dark (I find that a worm light helps). I haven't used any of my other games in months, if that tells you anything!

        beautiful but not durable
My son got this yesterday and instantly fell in love with the toy. He loves to open the locks, see what is inside the doors and just adores it. Also, my eight year old got a kick out of it and he is ADHD. It takes a bit more to keep him still. But, I was disapointed when the combination lock fell apart and the spring came out. My son was unable to open the lock after that and we had to fix it to stay open permenantly since I don't want to take it away and send it back for a replacement. My son is only two and half. He would be very mad at me.

        perfect gift
I bought this has a Christmas gift for a 2 & 1/2yr old boy. He loved unlocking real doors, playing with keys & seeing how locks worked so I figured this would be the perfect gift. He normally has a pretty short attention span, and doesn't play with one thing for more then a few minutes. But, not this! After he opened this gift, he could care less about the others that still needed to be unwrapped. For the first 30 minutes, he wouldn't even look up from the puzzle. He played with it almost for a straight hour, and after that still kept going back to play with it for 15-20minutes at time. His older cousins (10 & 12) loved helping him with the more diffcult locks (the luggage lock was very tricky, since they locked the instructions underneath. The code ended up being a simple 1-2-3) The keys stay attached to the boards so you don't have to worry about losing them. This is a perfect gift for any little one that loves puzzles.

          Relaxing fun!
If I had to sum up this game in one word it would be "Cute". I'm a fan of easy, relaxing games that don't get your blood pressure up too high, and this fits the bill perfectly. I would categorize it as a puzzle game, not action or adventure. While it still provides a moderate challenge, the game is great for anywhere, anytime play because you don't have to concentrate all that much. Great colorful graphics, however the music lacks. If you like moderately easy games with a puzzle element, this one's for you. Most hard-core gamers probably will not enjoy it.

this game is one for the kids but it still is fun just to play around with

          Tetris Blast

An interesting new take on the Tetris formula
Tetris became an instant classic when it was packaged with the Game Boy in 1989. But the most interesting thing about the game becoming so successful is the fact that it spawned so many sequels - each of which was unique in its own way. One of these sequels was Tetris Blast, in which the objective of the game was to detonate bombs to clear the screen, rather than scoring lines like in traditional Tetris games. How does this change of pace work out for the series? Read on and see.

            PROS:
-The graphics here are VERY good for a classic Game Boy game.
-The game has Super Game Boy color enhancements, which will make it that much more fun if you choose to play it using that accessory.
-There are different play modes, no two of which are exactly alike. For example, the normal mode is endless, until your screen fills up, while the Fight mode involves you detonating your on-screen bombs to kill a pesky little boss character.
-The musich is excellent for a Game Boy title.
-Like in most Tetris titles, there's a two-player Game Link mode.

            CONS:
-They didn't include the original version of Tetris.
-The songs, while very good, aren't nearly as catchy as the classical Russian ones featured in the original game.
-When you pause the game, the screen remains intact. This means you can cheat without even knowing you're cheating (in the original game, the screen disappeared when you paused it, so that you couldn't do this.)

            OVERALL:
Overall this is a fine addition to the Tetris library. If you're a fan of puzzle games, then Tetris Blast is well worth checking out. Sure, it never got the recognition and popularity that the original did, but it's still excellent. Don't pass it by if you're a Game Boy owner.

            A Twist that's a Blast
Here's a twist on a classic that makes the game exciting again. Not only do you have to complete a line, but you must have bombs in the line properly placed to blow up the regular blocks once the line gets filled in. Or, you can try some strategy and try to clear two lines at once, creating a big enough blast to make neighboring lines go away and set off neighboring bombs. Before you know it, a screen you thought was hopeless just might be cleared.

This does bring up my only real complaint with this game. I generally like to play Tetris starting with nothing and seeing how many lines I can clear before I hit the top of the screen. With this version, it takes forever to "die" in a traditional Tetris mode. I've been known to clear 100 lines and still have blank screen to work with.

However, this game offers some excellent puzzles. They start off with some blocks on the screen, and you must take the random shapes they give you and clear the screen in less than 100 pieces. Some of the levels are downright hard, but the challenge is fun.

Another variation they offer is "Battle Mode." Here, you must time your cleared lines (and explosions) to hurt creatures they've invented for the game. Naturally, each one tries to stop you using various means along the way, like adding blocks or eating bombs.

If you're a Tetris fan looking for a variation to make the game new and different again, pick this one up. It's another great way to play a classic.

                Addictive!
I bought this game because I enjoy computer games and don't have a place to set up a traditional jigsaw puzzle. Now I'm hooked! The interface was easy to use. However, I didn't like the tray sorting system. If you're trigger happy with the mouse, your trays end up getting combined or dumped pretty easily. I ended up not using it. I was concerned that the exploration part would be kind of skimpy but was pleasantly surprised. There are more puzzles once you're inside the mansion as well as the mystery to solve. The graphics were very good. It was also neat to see the mansion from the inside and be able to identify features that you put together in the puzzle segment of the game. The attention to detail was great. I can't wait to do the Castle and Notre Dame!

                If You Love Jigsaw Puzzles...
I have always loved jigsaw puzzles. But this is the first time I have ever put one together on a computer. Puzz 3D Orient Express has 4 difficulty levels, from easy to super-challenging. I started off on the third level which is the challenging level. That level is just as challenging as the 1000-peice puzzles you buy in the store. The only difference is this: once you put the puzzle together, the fun doesn't stop. The difficulty level you choose determines how much of the Orient Express you can explore. You get to meet all kinds of different people as well as learn about the history of the train. Plus, during the exploration phase, there are other games along the way as well as clues to a mystery guest who is supposed to board the train. I haven't finished the exploration portion yet, but I am already thinking about going back to rebuild the train at the super-challenging level. This way, I will have unlimited access to the entire train. This Puzzle is very addictive and fun.

                Highly recommended challenge, but frustrating
The idea here is to give the user a virtual jigsaw puzzle building experience. The puzzle, when completed, is a three-dimensional reconstruction of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

In the beginning, the user chooses a difficulty level, which determines how many pieces the puzzle is broken into, as well as how the pieces are laid out on a semi-circular virtual table. Using the cursor and mouse, the user brings the pieces together, sorts them in areas of the table, and gradually constructs the cathedral. Visual clues are available, as well as views of the completed puzzle, from any angle.

The level of difficulty chosen has another effect, in the type of payoff at the end. When the puzzle is completed, the user gets a tour of the cathedral, including historical trivia, on virtual placques, and ghosts, surprises, and a guide. However, the higher the level of difficulty chosen, the more access the user gets in the completed cathedral. More difficulty = more rooms, more secrets, more trivia.

Oh, and by the way, the graphics are truly great here including clarity, color, and resolution, and the sound effects are pretty good, too.

                Notre Dame Cathedral Puzz 3-D

Become a master builder and construct the Notre Dame piece by piece, inside and out. Puzz3-D Notre Dame Cathedral surrounds you with historical fact and fantasy as you erect this famous cathedral, from the most minute details of the rose windows to the more obvious external walls. Once finished, enter with your own personal key--your reward for a job well done--and discover the hidden secrets of Notre Dame. Four difficulty levels in this program provide progressively higher rewards for completion of the puzzle. The Easy level offers a 138-piece puzzle and a bronze key providing access to the first floor of the cathedral; the Super Challenging level presents 919 pieces and a platinum reward--the key to the most deeply hidden secrets of Notre Dame. At each level, after completing certain portions of the puzzle, you can view educational text and videos. Learn about many historical and architectural details of building the grand cathedral, such as constructing the flying buttresses, the challenge of incorporating so much glass into the design, and other trials of architect Maurice de Sully. Once you solve the 3-D puzzle, you take a similar tour of the inside of Notre Dame--with a twist. Within the historical explanation are not-so-hidden clues to a fictitious mystery involving the "spirits" of Notre Dame. The greatest enjoyment of the Puzz3-D Notre Dame Cathedral is the puzzle itself. Less successful is the attempt to creatively reveal the architectural and constructive history of the cathedral. The quality of the videos and sound clips is poor (even with a high-quality sound card, the ends of the last sentences in the sound bites are cut off, so that much of the historical information is lost). The reward of exploring the cathedral when you've completed the puzzle is inadequate, with inferior graphics and awkward directional controls. Stick to the puzzle challenge and you won't be disappointed. --Madeleine Miller

You are sitting on a luxurious lapis-lazuli-blue settee, surrounded by mahogany paneling and delectable culinary treats, riding Europe's most exquisite long-distance passenger train. It is 1922, and 40 intriguing ticket holders have boarded the newly designed train, the Orient Express, for a historic, event-filled journey from Paris to (then-named) Constantinople, covering 1,980 miles in less than 80 hours.

Before your elegant excursion, Puzz 3-D invites you to help construct this famous train. Taking on the project is hard work, but it comes with rewards. Orient Express begins with four puzzle levels: easy, average, challenging, and super challenging, each offering a different ticket status with the completion of the puzzle. Whichever level you choose to tackle, the pieces are laid out before you on a construction table complete with organization trays; snapshots of the finished Orient Express; historic sound, text, and video clips; and the optional timer.

Once completed, you board the train as an invisible presence--perfect for giving you access to passengers' personal information. Your passage crosses European country after country (no border patrols yet!), but your sole landscape is the plush train interior and your exotic fellow travelers, including a flapper, an Egyptologist, a famous French movie star, and even a psychic. The famed Madame Sosotris, known for her clairvoyant powers (and the only one who can see you), invites you aboard to be "destiny's agent," affecting the outcome of this fateful ride. Information and character clips, as well as mahjong tiles (Sosotris's tools for her psychic powers), lead you to answer questions and puzzles regarding a few of the suspicious passengers.

This 3-D puzzle provides hours of entertainment. The historical video segments and sound clips will help players glean a better understanding of the development of railroad travel, as well as its continuing allure outside the United States. In addition, the train itself has a story to tell. Orient Express takes advantage of its rich and mysterious past, making the CD-ROM much more than just a puzzle. --Madeleine Miller

Wrebbit's Victorian Mansion 3-D Puzzle combines mystery and puzzle-building with 3-D graphics, a revolutionary puzzle interface, video clips, and an original score. Tea, scones, murder, and 3-D puzzle pieces all play a role in this Victorian puzzle.
