It is hard to resist the retro charms of video games of the past, which is why a lot of these titles are coming back to life on modern platforms. Activision's revamp of Space Invaders treads lightly on the hallowed ground of the original point-and-shoot alien game. Even the pregame film clip pays homage to the simple 1978 version. While based heavily on a game that is over 20 years old, this newer version contains enough newer gaming elements to re-energize the classic into a contemporary contender.

In particular, the addition of 3-D graphics brings new life to this well-traveled game, though it is odd to play without the now-infamous pixilated square enemies creeping toward the bottom of the screen. There are also a wider variety of enemy ships, guns, special powers, mother ships, and squadron formations to contend with. You can try your luck on your own, or get a second player to help you during combat, which is great for players with short attention spans. There are plenty of chances to gain extra lives, which helps those of us who lost more than a few quarters on this game at the arcade. Space Invaders is perfect if you don't want to play a game with a long, drawn-out plot. --Carrie Bell

Pros:

  • Beloved arcade hit
  • Updated graphics, speed, and joystick response
  • Good gift for all ages, but especially those who remember the original
Cons:
  • Simplistic gameplay, no plot--may not be complicated enough for gamers who don't remember the original

A Great Revision to a Classic Game
Hasbro's latest version of Space Invaders is awesome. It is quite similar to the orignal game but it isnt anywhere near as hard. Hasbro has enhanced the gameplay by adding powerups that have different functions, different background screens, and big bosses between the levels. A really cool function is the 2 player simultaneous mode where 2 people can blow away the aliens at the same time. If you beat all of the levels, you are rewarded with the orignal Space Invaders game, which is incredibly hard I might add. The graphics are good, and the gameplay is highly addictive. This one is fun for the kids, as well as the adults. At this price, this game is well worth it! I highly recommend it!

'' A CLASSIC GAME MADE BETTER '' !!!
I LOVED THE OLD '' SPACE INVADERS '' GAME AS A KID . AND SPENT MANY AN HOUR AT THE LOCAL ARCADE . SO I SNATCHED THIS UP AS SOON AS I SAW IT IN THE STORE . I HAVEN'T HAD SO MUCH FUN PLAYING A SPACE GAME IN AGES ! THE GRAPHICS ARE REALLY COOL- AND YOU GET LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHIPS TO DESTROY. PLUS AS A BONUS- YOU CAN DESTROY MOTHER SHIPS THAT PASS BY , IN ORDER TO GET EXTRA LIVES OR SPECIAL POWERUPS . THIS MAKES DESTROYING ENEMY SHIPS ALL THE MORE FUN !AND THERE ARE EVEN ENEMY SHIPS THAT HAVE THEIR OWN DEADLY COUNTERATTACKS .NOT TO MENTION LOTS OF COOL BOSSES TO FIGHT !! SO IF YOU WANT A COOL GAME THAT BLOWS AWAY A CLASSIC OLD TIME ARCADE FAVORITE , THEN LOOK NO FURTHER.. YOU'LL PLAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN .. AND YOU CAN EVEN UNLOCK THE CLASSIC GAME TO PLAY AS WELL.. SO GRAB THIS ONE UP . AT THE LOW PRICE IT IS SELLING FOR , IT 'S A REAL GOOD BUY !!

Quick fun for all ages!
Out favorite game! The simplicity of Space Invaders is the most rewarding part (No MBA needed to digest the manual). My 5 year old and I take on the aliens and then face the eventual "BOSS" of each level. 2 players can play as a team and that makes for much more enjoyable play, especially with kids (who wants to beat or be beaten by your kids?)
An enjoyable video clip at the beginning takes you back to the early battle of 1978 and then it is up to you to defend Earth as the re-invasion begins. This game has come a long way!

Hoping for a sequel!!

Star Wars: X-Wing Collector Series
Made by LucasArts Entertainment
Age Group: 5 years and up
    Amazon base price: $
Buy one from zShops for: $23.00
Star Wars fans, listen up. If you missed out on LucasArts's X-Wing or TIE Fighter simulations when they first appeared, it's time to make amends. These classic games from the days of DOS have been given a complete makeover, updated with enhanced graphics, and now run under Windows 95 and 98. X-Wing Collector Series contains both of these Collector editions in a single box, along with a demo CD-ROM containing X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter: Flight School, and offers them all at a price that should be well within anyone's entertainment budget.

Entertained is what you'll be once you've installed these games. X-Wing lets players pilot A-wings, Y-wings, B-wings, and (of course) X-wings in dozens of missions against the evil Empire. Although Rebel ships have the advantage of being equipped with shields, don't expect any mercy--the game is infamous for containing some of the toughest missions of all time.

TIE Fighter turns the tables by letting players work their way up in the Imperial ranks. Several types of TIE ships are modeled, from the ungainly TIE bomber to the incredibly agile TIE defender. In both games the controls are about as perfect as they can get in a game of this type, and campaign missions play out with convincing voice acting and great plot twists. The graphics pale in comparison to a newer game like X-Wing: Alliance, but there's so much gameplay in these CD-ROMs that we barely had time to notice. --T. Byrl Baker

    Pros:

    • A few hundred fun, challenging missions to play through
    • Many different ships
    • Sound effects and music straight out of the movies
    • Perfectly captures the excitement and feel of Star Wars
    Cons:
    • Updated graphics still don't look as good as those found in modern space simulators

would be more fun if wasn't so difficult
this is one of the older games that are still around, but, unlike the other oldies, this one now has Direct-X 3D acceleration. It also has Lucas Arts premium sound effects , so if you've never played a Star Wars game, this is as good a place to start as any.

You get a manual, a quick reference guide and 2 CD-ROMs containing a total of 3 titles: "X-Wing", "Tie Fighter" and "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter: Flight School" (a demo of an improved title).

this was the first game(s) I ever bought and was hoping for a good space flying/shooting sim that's fun and not too difficult. I got half of what I wanted...it looks good and the tutorials are fun and simple, but like most of these type games, most of us can only finish the first 2 levels before being inundated with unenjoyably heavy fleets and relentless laser fire.

    WOW!! THESE ARE GOOD GAMES!
A long time ago I bought X-Wing (the original, not the collecters version) and considering I was only 7(or less, I can't remember exactly) it was too challenging for me but I found it was still very fun. A little afterward I bought Tie Fighter (again not collecters), I found this to be a little easier then X-Wing but still just as fun. I've seen the collecters versions for both and they have signifigantly improved in many areas, not the least of which is graphics. I still play Tie Fighter and would also still play X-Wing if it weren't for the fact that I hard installed it on my old computer(which I no longer own) that we dont have anymore and I no longer have the disk. Overall I have to say that they both are amazing games. I've never played the third game but even if it's really bad, paired with the two other games...... I have to say it's definatly worth it to buy this product.

    Oh...My...God
    Concerning X-wing

I remember getting this game for my birthday way the heck back in 1992. The missions were so fun and CHALLENGING now this is a word that most people in the computer game industry seem to have forgotten. The appeal of this game for me was that because it took so much time to complete(I think I managed it in 2 years) the victories were all the swetter when you won.

Nowadays you can just type in a cheat code and skip to the end well keep in mind that such a thing did not exist on the old DOS machines.

X-wing was the first but later on Lucas-arts improved the engine by adding TIE FIGHTER (that's right a game where you play on the side of the Imperials) this also provides some very challenging missions but can be beaten with much more ease that anyone could ever beat x-wing. Still fun, just as enjoyable

Now X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter brings us relatively up to date combing elements of both games what you have is a game that is more useful for multiplayer than single player missions. This is finally where the age of this type of game in this type of format began to show. Most of the missions in this game were just repeats of the same missions in X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Although the graphics are better and there are one or two missions that provide a great level of enjoyment.

If any of you old dogs out there are still using 98 or 95 pick up a piece of gaming history and get a copy of this package.

Still the best space combat game!
I bought the orginal XWing back in 1993 as one of the first games I got for my then state of the art 486. I was blown away by the game dynamics. Compared to most games of the time the 3D universe was incredible. Especially when compared to the SNES that I had just upgraded from. The developers had elected to use 3d polygons (now the standard) to build the in game graphics and this worked far better than its main rival at the time: Wing Commander and its 2D bitmap graphics. (Wing Commander was once regarded as the standard in space sims but is virtually unplayable now because of the awful graphics and boring AI/combat. I know I've tried it recently!)

Playing XWing now (the updated version included in the collectors CD) it still feels fresh which is an amazing achievment when you consider it is now 10 years old. It may not have cutting edge graphics but they work well enough and still manage to give a smooth and convincing 3D feel. The combat and power management gameplay is still engrossing even by modern standards. To be honest the gameplay stil knocks some of the more recent Lucasarts console based space combat games into touch.

The updated in game orchestral music score is lifted straight from the movies and is a vast improvement on the 1993 Xwing's midi version. This is one of the best and evocative uses of the original John Williams score in any of the Star Wars games. (Much better than in Jedi Knight 2!) You really live the Star Wars experience in this game. (Not only that but you can put the CDRom into a CD player and get the music in full on stereo Hi Fi quality.)

If there is one critisism it is the difficulty. Tie Fighter the sequel game (also on the CD) is much more fondly remembered than Xwing but that may have something to do with the fact it is a much easier game to get into (plus the fact you are the bad guy which is more fun). XWing is hard with a capital H but I think that makes it so much more satifying when you get that mission complete message.

If you like Star Wars, especially the space combat bits towards the end of Return of the Jedi and you have an older PC (even a 486!!!) this is an ideal purchase.

Now this one takes me back...
I remember playing this when I was twelve back in '96 and I really dug it. Not 'till a few months ago did I start playing it again (mainly for nostalgic reasons. Being a Star wars fan from day one I was naturally interested in this game and I was very pleased with the results. Sure, the graphics are seriously outdated but this game is so good that it doesn't even matter to me. Learning all the command keys (Enter hyperspace, etc., etc.) was slightly confusing at first, but I quickly learned how to memorize all of the command keys without looking at the manual every few minutes. A lot of the missions are challenging in which you are required to act very quickly in order to save a ship in order for the mission to be succesful. Some of the missions are damn near impossible. I especially like games in which the player is required to constantly be on the edge of his or her seat. I find this to be (for the most part), a fast paced game requiring quick wits and even faster reflexes. The added missions as well as the addition of the B-wing fighter are also very worthwhile bonuses to this gem. This is a must for any Star wars enthusiast like myself.

      star wars
if you like star wars get this game. It is exactly like the film only there are more ships.

Something mysterious is going on at the reploid research island. The reploids have ceased functioning, their data strangely erased. The investigation team encounters "irregular" reploids infected with a strange new DNA chip. Known as DNA Soul, it replaces useful data with a devastating Sigma virus and places all reploids in imminent danger. Now it's up to Mega Man X and his comrade Zero to get to the damaged island and find out who is behind the DNA Soul virus. Game features include the ability to change between Mega Man X and Zero at any time and the chance to collect rare DNA Junk along the way to build new weapons, bosses, or even a new stage. There are four modes of play: X mode, Zero mode, Continue, and Extreme.

        X has gone Xtreme...again...
i never owned xtreme 1 but i played it alittle. i have x1 on snes, rented x2 an x3 along time ago an is disapointing to say that for those who dont know, the bosses r rips from earlier x games which to me isnt really a downside. i thot the dna soul however was a bit cheap but u simply dont hav to buy parts which is a good thing an the reason i hated that is it takes fun from finding boss weaknesses. Playing as zero was quite disapointing but x is pure gold! u can unlock modes an im not tellin ya them all but one mode u get to go against bosses from xtreme 1 an i found them pretty hard (its not every boss tho). Getting armor upgrades DOES NOT make game too cheap an is pretty fun using arm upgrade but difficult at first. This game is fun for on the road an once i felt like i was playing a real mmx game on snes so for those who didnt get to play x1,2, or 3 (shame on u (joking)!) dont worry the bosses r still waiting....slightly easier tho.

        SUPER GAME BOY COLOR GAME
This is one of the best game boy color games I have gotten. The graphics are awsome the game play is awsome. There are tons of levels to keep your attention for hours. This game has memory so you can save your game and come back. You can play two different modes both as X or his counterpart Zero. X has all the cool guns and you can keep bulding different armor and all. Zero just has a sword. So I have not played Zero much. I think there is one level you need to play Zero to win, though. For me, I am 32, this game is very difficult. I have had the game for a couple of months and have only gotten to the 2nd level. My son beat the game withough any problem though.

THIS THE THE BEST MEGAMAN GAME!
This game rocks! Megaman has to recover all of the files of the robots. But, he has to fight robotic killers meanwhile. YOu can play as Zero, the red bot, or Megaman, the blue bot.
The levels are much more challenging than the first Xtreme game. And, the ending is different by which character you, the gamer, choose. I have beat it, and it still gives me bonus games to play.

        Omega Boost

From the creators of the popular racing series Gran Turismo comes the space-action sci-fi shooter Omega Boost. This futuristic game pits you against a sinister computer virus named Alphacore. To conquer Alphacore, you must pilot an armed free-floating robot named Omega Boost through 19 diverse zones and, ultimately, travel back in time to stop Alphacore from changing history. Basically, the gameplay of Omega Boost is incredibly straightforward. Simply blow up each enemy that stands in your way. Enemies come in all shapes, sizes, and strengths. We were impressed with the amount of detail put into each enemy--in fact, we often paused the game so that we could better examine each enemy being blown to smithereens. Each zone has a collection of small enemies, a sub- boss, and a boss to conquer.

As you progress in the game, you can customize and upgrade your equipment. In champion mode, you will have to finish a level with a good enough destroy rate before you will be allowed to advance. This game also includes a replay mode, which will allow you to leisurely view highlights of your most intense battles.

While this game may be pretty to look at, the controls can be difficult to master. You'll definitely need to check out the training zones in order to properly learn how to navigate your hunk of junk metal. We became dizzy from the rotating 3-D and 360-degree environments, which can make your control seem more complicated during a busy barrage of enemy fire from all directions. --Carrie Bell

          Pros:

          • Interesting plot
          • Detailed spaceships and explosions
          • Full 3-D, 360-degree rotating action

          Cons:

          • Shooting action can get repetitious
          • May cause dizziness
          Average review score:

Great game, but not much replay value.
Omega Boost is an okay game. The graphics are probably the best on PlayStation, rivaling Final Fantasy VII. The music is cool at the beginning, but later okay. The gameplay is not too bad, but could be worse. After you beat it , there is not much left after.

Highly playable shooter balancing looks and mechanics.
One of those rare cases where a game developer doesn't compromise gameplay in favour of graphics. Omega Boost gets the best of both worlds. Though the 360-degree environment can make you dizzy, the addition of the "face forward" button drastically improves ease of controls. And the backgrounds and characters look sharp but remain responsive, which makes for a great fast-paced shooter.

If anything, I might have wished there would be a little more diversity in terms of weapons, levels, missions and some kind of a story. Imagine the customizeability of Armored Core coupled with the furious action and beautiful graphics of this game! However, that didn't seem to be the intention of the designers. As an old-fashioned "blow-everything-up" shooter, Omega Boost ranks among the best there is to offer.

blow stuff up in outer space
Well, most of us know about the great Playstationg titles. final fantasy, tekken, Metal Gear Solid. But there are titles out there that are every bit as good, yet never get the attention that they deserve. Omega Boost is one of those games.

This game has it all. The story is pretty decent. I won't spoil it here. The graphics are gorgeous. Absoloutly incredable, just be sure that when you play this game for the first time, you play it with no one else around, lest someone accidently step on your jaw when it falls to the floor. The music is very cool too. The intro music rocks big time and the in game stuff is funky. The game itself is just a brainless shoot em up. Like R-type on steroids. and a hundread times more fun. All this stuff combines to give you a great fun game that anyone can play and enjoy.

Give it shot. You'll be glad you did

            Could Have Been Much Better..
The first Battlezone is an amazingly fun game. That is high praise coming from me since I rarely play RTS type games. I love the resource management system and the user interface of the first game.

So what happened to Battlezone 2? Those elements are still in this version but alot of the fun is missing. This game had very few thrills in it. The ability to call in airstrikes was fun, squad-based tank combat is always a good time but the game did'nt meet my expectations. Also, the 3D accellerated graphics in the game are wasted; it makes alot of things look fake or just plain goofy looking, especially the enemy vehicles.

The developers were too quick to jump on the 3D bandwagon when they had no "new" game to sell. The first Battlezone is still better. My opinion: it is worth about 10 bucks, don't pay anymore and don't expect to be playing it for a long time.

            THE BEST GAME EVER!!!
THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER. This game is much better than battlezone 1 and more fun. If you want a VERY good game then get this game. This game is worth $35 not $10. This game is very fun on single player and multiplayer. Its alot more fun to play if you know the story (battlezone 1 is very important in the story). On single player you play on a side (ISDF) and later on in the missions you can choose to stay on the good guys side or to go to bad guys side. Multiplayer is REALLY fun. you can choose maps to play join games. Battlezone 2 on the internet is a chat room with ALOT of FUN. I play battlezone 2 any time I have the chance which is maybe 3 or 4 hours a day (because i go to school). NOTE: THIS IS THE BEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSE SO GET IT NOW!!! trust me.

Battlezone II is the best game ever
This is a very fun game. You can drive vehicles and get out of your vehicle get the enemy. After about 5 levels you get a sniper mode to your gun so you can shoot the driver in a enemys vehicle and steal the enemys vehicle. buy this game it is really really FUN!!!

Pretty good, but could be better
While this game was the first game in the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series to be a multiplayer, you might be better off using a DSL connection because it's veryveryveryveryveryveryvery laggy. Missions are tough on the Rebel side because of all the TIE Advanceds, but on the Imperial missions, it's too easy. Also, they forgot the B-Wing (which comes with Balance Of Power), the TIE Defender and in the non-BoP version, even the lines when you go into hyperspace. Lots missing, work on it.

              It's a great game
It's a great game, since it requires a 3D accelerator the graphics are much better and the cut-scenes are awesome. With a new ship to be and a lot of more enemies it makes it hard but really fun. It has more missions and a campaign mode where your the Rebellion or Empire, and each side has totally different missions, it has a story behind it and is overall a 5-star game.

              GREAT GAME
              WHAT!!!!!!!!!!???????????
ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE YOUR MOVING IN YOUR LITTLE SHIP?

Probably, but it doesn't work to well. When you're first playing the game, it can be confusing and you can get "Lost in Space".
              Why?
Because, first of all, all of the controls are new to you and you don't know what is what in the cockpit. So if you turn, your facing a [blank] picture of space - and you can't find your way back to the battle. But you get used to it. But it's still annoying!

So why did I give this game five stars?
Because EXCEPT FOR THE ABOVE, (and a little more at the bottom) IT'S GREAT! YOU REALLY FEEL LIKE YOU'RE THERE! ONCE YOU KNOW THE CONTROLS AND WHAT EVERYTHING MEANS, YOU'RE HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME, YOU DON'T GET OFF TILL MIDNIGHT!

              G-R-E-A-T G-A-M-E-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

              GET IT!

WARNING: If you don't currently have a joystick, don't get the game! It requires a joystick to play! (I had to go through that, and it wasn't fun.)

Electronic Arts' Alien Crossfire--created by legendary designer Sid Meier, maker of such landmark games as Civilization and Pirates!--is the official add-on pack for a brilliant turn-based strategy game,Alpha Centauri. The pack expands on the original game by adding seven factions, new facilities, additional secret projects, and new branches to the elaborate technology tree. Fans also receive many new enhancements to Alpha Centauri, including play-by-email mutiplayer mode, hotseat multiplayer mode, and numerous tweaks to the interface and unit properties. Alien Crossfire's new factions include cyborgs, drones, pirates, and two sets of alien societies. Factions are balanced by a set of predetermined statistics and characteristics, such as bonuses for particular government and production styles.

Game play means creating and maintaining a flourishing society on a hostile alien world. Players must juggle dozens of civilization settings--such as government style, unit production, and pollution prevention--and discover the best means of conquering enemies through a powerful economy, research and development, or military conquest. Alternatively, players and computer-controlled factions can become allies instead of enemies and trade technologies and unit designs to further bolster scientific advancements and economy.

With an exciting new story line, dozens of enhancements, and tried-and-true game play that adds hours of life to the original game, Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire is a must-have expansion pack for Alpha Centauri fans. Remember that you'll need Alpha Centauri in order to play and enjoy Alien Crossfire. --Doug Radcliffe

                Average review score:

Alpha Centauri enhanced with new factions and more
Seven years after planetfall, as the Gaians, Collective, University and other factions struggle to make their way on Planet, two alien spacecraft fight in the space above...and ultimately crash land, to make their own way on Planet.

Alien Crossfire puts the Alpha Centauri game in the center of this conflict, as the factions we all know and love are caught between the Caretakers and Preservers, two alien factions diametrically opposed to each other and any who would ally with the other. New Human factions to play such as the Cyborgs and Pirates just add to the fun. New unit types, and planetary features such as the Manifold Nexus make the Alpha Centauri experience even richer than the already excellent basic game.

An excellent expansion with a few flaws
I loved Civ II and I lovedAlpha Centauri, and in fact I loved all of Sid Meiers products. Which is why I wasn't suprised by the excellence of the expansion pack. I loved how unique the factions were, which led to a diffrent style of game than Alpha Centauri...which was played like Civ II, i.e. 7 similar factions which give a subtlty to the game play...where as in Alien Cross fire, each faction is radically diffrent...not even including the massive difference between Human and Alien factions...One human faction can maintain an complety water civilization, and another can completey criple anoter faction with just probe teams. I also really liked being able to comit atrocities without sanctions.

I had a few objections...namely, The council doesn't seem to work to well with only 5 governments, and they're weren't really enough new techs, wonders, weapons, graphic changes and new ways to beat the game for my taste. My only other objections are that the Aliens seem a little to powerful, especially at the beginning, and and I thought it would have been cool to coexist with them, instead of wiping them out.

Even with it's flaws it's a great expansion!
Alpha Centauri is such an absorbing game that completely outpaces anything similar that has come out over the last 12 years. The Alien Crossfire expansion adds enough to the game that it surely is worth owning and using. Be sure to get the patch though as the game has a lot of bugs!

The new human factions (Pirates, Drones, Consciousness, Planet Cult, and Datatechs) are fantastic fun! The alien factions are overpowered, irritating, and suck the life out of the game in my opinion. Fortunately you can play without them. Too bad you can only have seven factions max in a game as playing with the 12 human factions would be incredible fun!

The new planetary features are worth having for sure. The Manifold Nexus is mysterious and worth fighting over. The crash site of the Unity spaceship has lots of goodies to dig up, and the borehole fields are nice to build near.

The new technologies add a lot of excitement to the game along with new base installations like the Aquafarm which gives you more food from kelp farms or the Flechette missile defense which gives you better defense from missile attacks. Brood pits make even bigger and more dangerous mind worms, spore launchers, sealurks, and isles of the deep. New Technologies like marine detatchments can be added to ships so you can board and capture enemy ships! Four new secret projects are also made available: Planetary Energy Grid (energy bank in every base - nice!), Cloudbase Academy (air complex in every base - definitely the most valuable secret project!), the Nethack Terminus (probe team bonus - yawn!), and the Manifold Harmonics (nice for extra food and energy but the game is almost over!).

Once you play with the new factions and buildings, it's doubtful you'd go back to playing just the original as much if at all.

                  Colony Wars Vengeance
Its a fun game. But it gets boring, still it has lots of action and adventure.

                  Must have , love, hate:
This game is getting old now, I have to speak for the game because I bought it twice, once back in the day when it came out and again in 2004 for a lack of a good space shooter on the PS2. To this day the graphics hold up well and the gameplay factor is what brings you back for more. Missions range from escort to defend the base to take out the enemy base or fighters. The gameplay is hard, I mean really hard. (for easy play pick up colony wars 3). The missions are setup in fork fashion, loose a mission it changes the outcome, and completion path of the game. If you liked tie fighter or x-wing games from back in the day and you arn't to spoiled with modern graphics give this game a try.

                  indeed
This game is awesome, a great sequel and a classic PS one game. I recommend this game to all fans of videogames.

                  Star Trek: Invasion
                  Made by Activision
Age Group: 5 years and up
                    Amazon base price: $
                    List price: $39.99 (that's NaN% off!)

While Star Trek: Invasion never quite reaches the lofty heights of the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekker.

Set in the time line of the Next Generation TV and film series, Invasion has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only Trek race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Speaking of the Trek gang, actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production.

The visuals in Invasion are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are topnotch. The music, however, is painfully repetitive. Disturbingly, the controls in Invasion are way too sensitive for all but the most die-hard space jockeys. The Valkyrie space fighters often make too wide a turn, resulting in constant misfires and untimely deaths.

Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of Star Trek, Invasion does lack the Colony Wars games' level of intense, gritty combat, and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser blast-filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride. --Mark Brooks

                    Pros:

                    • Lovely graphics push the PlayStation to its limits
                    • Excellent voice acting all around
                    • Easy to get into
                    Cons:
                    • Awkward controls
                    • Light story line doesn't compete with standout games in this genre
                    • Too few missions
                    Average review score:

                    RESISTANCE IS FUTILE
If you are a Trekkie or just a casual fan you will love this game. It is hard to get used to the controls (I'm used to Colony Wars)and the missions can be very hard but they are NOT impossible. As with most of the best games on the market this one is difficult and will take time to complete all the missions. You will have to have some dedication (like all 3 Colony Wars or any Tomb Raider game) to complete the game. But, if you liked Star Trek TNG you will love it when you attack the Borg and hear "Resistance is Futile, you will be Assimulated". The special effects, mission line, and voice and music score is very good. It is hard to make a PS1 game as good as a PC game. But, I think Activision did a really good job!

                    Warp Factor 9
As a Star Trek fan I will admit a certain amount of bias in writing a review of this game but I can honestly say it was well worth the wait! I have been waiting for a long time for Playstation to market a Star Trek fighter game and I am very satisfied with Invasion. Manuverability and the realistic detail to ships and hazards are outstanding. Plus the cameos of Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn (Capt. Picard and Commander Worf) were excellent additions to this game. All of the enimies proved challanging and versitile. I would definetly give this game 4 1/2-5 stars.

                    Excellent Star Trek Game!
They usually make Star Trek games for computers, I'm glad they made this one for PS1. It's a great fighter pilot type game.
