NBA Jam

A must-have for Game Boy owners and NBA fans
I have about 15 Game Boy games, yet I haven't played most of them in almost two years. Still, NBA Jam stands out as one of the best I own. The graphics as nothing to write home about (that's old hat with many GB games), but that really makes no difference. The team duos (2-on-2 games) are some of the best the 90's NBA games have to offer. But Michael Jordan is not featured; instead it's Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. The best duo team goes to the Hornets for Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning. The attributes of most of the players are appropriate, as they don't allow people like Rik Smits to make 3-pointers or John Stockton to dunk. And when the players who can dunk actually do, it's more than entertaining. There's 10 different jams you can do, but you don't get to choose which one you're doing. Also (since you won't have a booklet), in order to dunk, you HAVE to push the turbo button at the same time as shoot. Otherwise you'll just be shooting lay-ups all day, which is depressing just hearing it said. Getting 'on fire' is crucial for this game. It's pretty rare to have it happen, but when it does: SHOOT! You won't miss a shot unless it's a full-courter, and you might even make that! And when on fire, that's your only chance to do the infamous summersault-spin dunk (run straight down the court at turbo speed and jump from the free-throw line). All in all, this is probably the best Game Boy game I own. And it's worth the money if you still even have a Game Boy machine. If you can, try to get the booklet; otherwise you can e-mail me if you have any questions. Here's the team duos and my 1-10 rankings:

Boston - Dee Brown | Dominique Wilkins [8.0/10]
Miami - Ron Seikaly | Glen Rice [7.2/10]
New Jersey - Derrick Coleman | Kenny Anderson [7.7/10]
New York - Patrick Ewing | John Starks [8.9/10]
Orlando - Nick Anderson* | Penny Hardaway [9.5/10]
Philadelphia - Clarence Weatherspoon | Jeff Malone [5.2/10]
Washington - Tom Golgotha | Calbert Cheaney [6.9/10]
Atlanta - Stacey Augmon | Mookie Blaylock [7.0/10]
Charlotte - Larry Johnson | Alonzo Mourning [10.0/10]
Chicago - Scottie Pippen | Horace Grant [9.5/10]
Cleveland - Mark Price | Brad Daugherty [6.5/10]
Detroit - Tracy Mills | Joe Dumars [7.4/10]
Indiana - Reggie Miller | Rik Smits [8.2/10]
Milwaukee - Blue Edwards | Erin Murdock [4.0/10]
Dallas - Jim Jackson | Jamal Mashburn [8.5/10]
    Denver - Dikembe Mutombo | Mahammad Abdul-Rauf [7.2/10]
Houston - Hakeem Olajuwon | Vernon Maxwell [8.6/10]
Minnesota - Christian Laettner | Isiah Rider* [7.8/10]
San Antonio - David Robinson | Dale Ellis [8.5/10]
Utah - Karl Malone | John Stockton [9.7/10]
Golden State - Chris Webber | Latrell Sprewell [9.6/10]
    L.A. Clippers - Poo Richardson | Ron Harper [6.6/10]
L.A. Lakers - Vlade Divac | Nick Van Exal [7.1/10]
Phoenix - Dan Majerle | Kevin Johnson [8.1/10]
Portland - Clyde Drexler | Cliff Robinson [8.3/10]
Seattle - Shawn Kemp | Detleff Schrempf [9.0/10]
Sacramento - Waymon Tisdale | Mitch Richmond [7.6/10]

*NOTE: Anderson is (in my opinion) the best 3-point shooter.
*NOTE: Rider is (in my opinion) the best dunker.

Artwork for the G.I. Joe Generation (and lovin' it.)
McFarlane keeps things consistant. The amazing detail that McFarlane & Co. put into each one of their action figures is simply astonishing. From grass stains to the wrinkles in a players uniform. It's almost a 3-D slice of history. I feel bad for other companies that produce items such as this. Some of them these days are so articulated now. It's almost painful to look at them. McFarlane produces pieces that are not meant to move (at least not much.) The companies pieces are meant to look at. Perhaps bring back some very good memories of a moment in time. Maybe someday I'll have the chance to show this to my son and say "I watched this man play." The one great thing about these figures is that they are not anonymous people (except SPAWN himself.) They are our sports heroes.

              Great for Kids!
This game is the companion game to the APBA Superstars Baseball Game. It has all of the other game's strengths. It is educational fun for youngsters. It teaches them about primary colors and numbers, and introduces them to some of the basic terms of football (fumbles, passes, etc.). They also learn the names of today's football stars. Since there is no strategy involved, youngsters have as much opportunity to win as do adults playing against them. I also appreciate that the game parts are quite sturdy, and can easily be cleaned when the inevitable ice cream or buttered popcorn gets on them. I highly recommend it.

                A great gamer for 98
NHL Faceoff 98 is a great game. Graphics not sure about. I'll say its okay. Commentators only say who scored the goal and 1 minute remaining for periods. Set up your roster and create players. I own the game and play it once in a while but it is great. If you like to check people this game is okay for checking opponents. Sometimes you can even hit people into the stands. I recommend this to hockey lovers.

                    A Great Figure
I bought this figure because I still remember Ron Francis from his Penguin days. This figure is very well designed and accurate almost to a T. Every piece of equipment is exquisitely detailed, even having the name and logo of the manufacturer's of Ronnie's equipment. The facial detail is also really well done, complete with visor. The figure even comes with it's own base and puck. Any hockey fan would be well served to pick up this accurate representation of one of the classiest players in the NHL.
