Hot Shots Golf 3

Hot Shots Golf 3 certainly isn't the most revolutionary addition to this popular series, but it does a good job of retaining the classic gameplay while updating the series to take advantage of the PlayStation2's more powerful hardware. The courses are beautiful, the animation is excellent as always, and the way the ball reacts to the wind, course elements, and irons and woods is realistic. When you screw up, there's never any doubt that it's your fault, not some flaw in the physics engine. Best of all, once a course is loaded, there's never any waiting around after a shot for a position update. The game is butter smooth.

Perhaps the best thing about the game is its immediate accessibility. Players of any skill level can immediately grasp (if not master) the swing meter, where one button press starts the backswing, another determines power, and a third determines accuracy. It's all about rhythm and timing, and pressing on the directional pad during the backswing lets expert players control topspin to finesse their shots, fight a strong wind, or guide the ball through some nearby trees.

As players advance through the tournament and other modes, they gain experience in addition to points for purchasing new equipment and other game enhancements. New clubs, balls, and other items significantly impact the way the game plays. New characters and courses open up as the game progresses, so there's always something new to unlock or master. If any complaint can be leveled at the game, it's that perhaps the designers didn't take the over-the-top theme far enough. Those looking for a strict simulation without the wacky characters and fancy special effects might want to look at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002. On the other hand, that game's special effects are too sparse to attract people looking for a pure arcade experience, and the character designs are uninspired. Regardless, the game lurking underneath Hot Shots Golf 3's fantasy façade should appeal to any golf fanatic, and the varied course designs combined with plentiful equipment choices guarantee a great deal of replayability. --T. Byrl Baker

    Pros:

    • Once loaded, shots, replays, and course repositioning are instantaneous
    • Beautiful and varied courses with especially good water effects
    • Plenty of equipment, characters, and other items to unlock
    Cons:
    • Graphics are good, but probably don't tap the entire potential of PS2
    • Could use more and better special effects to add drama to the proceedings

Very fun and easy for anyone to play
Hot Shots Golf 3, the sequel to the fun and accessible Hot Shots 1 and 2, is a very fun golf game, and easy for anyone to learn. Part of the reason this game is so appealing is that you don't have to be a master before you start having fun; Gran Turismo 3 was like that, and the first 10 hours with that game was a real struggle. With Hot Shots Golf 3, anyone can pick up a controller and quickly learn to play within 15 minutes. I even tried a round with my dad, and after playing a few courses, he was scoring par and birdie without much trouble.

However, it is not an easy game once you get going. The initial courses are fun and mildly challenging, but as the game goes along, the courses become (thankfully) harder. As goes usual golf gaming fair, there are a countless number of secrets and items to unlock. You can unlock secret clubs, characters, wallpapers and more by earning "Hot Shot" points while you play.

The only things that I didn't like about this game were the unorignal characters and the annoying sound effects. The characters are very stereotyped, as usual, and I would have preferred Sony to use the original Japanese characters.

Other than those two bad points, Hot Shots Golf 3 is a very fun golf game with a lot of longevity. There are plenty of secrets to unlock, six huge 18 hole courses to play on, and even internet scoring competition. While it's not wholly original (considering it's another sequel), it's a great accessible game, whether you're playing alone or with some friends.

    WoW!!! Absolutely Amazing!!!
I just recently got a PS2 about 2 weeks ago, after a 1 year break from video games. I remembered owning hot shots golf for psx, so when I saw Hot Shots Golf 3 at my local vg store, I had to have it. And HSG 3 does not dissapoint! This is in my opinion, the best golfing game for PS2, and for that matter, on any other system. I did my research and found that this game is actually better than all other licensed PGA golf games! Yea, it may not be realistic, but it's the fun factor that counts, and this game gets a 10 out of 10 for that. The graphics are nice, but could be better, and the controls are absolutely excellent and easy to understand and use. This game is great to play against friends in it's multi-player mode.....I just wish it was online, cuz that would give me a great excuse to by a broadband adapter internet thingy for my PS2. So, overall, I recommend this game to anyone who likes golf or sports or multiplayer fun.....or anyone who appreciates a good videogame!

Come on inetria, do your thing!
I sold my PS2 last year for an XBox but I kept this game, slim chance that I got another PS2. I really missed Hotshots Golf 3. I would drink beer after work and play a round of 18. I missed it. I missed the bet that me and a buddy had for the first hole in one either of us would score. The bet was to do shots of whiskey in celebration. Neither of us ever had that whiskey until two weeks ago. With March Madness winnings I bought me a new PS2.

HSG3 is a golf game that doesn't take itself serious. The taunts are really funny and will be stuck in your head for days. The courses feel very lifelike, full of colors and unlockable animals, great weather effects. Since I sold my memory card last year, I am playing through the tourney mode, unlocking all the clubs and other goodies once again.

If you are looking for a serious golf game with collared shirt stiffs, this is not your game. The Power Meter system in this games works just fine for me, but I hear the controls in Tiger are really good as well.

I'm not a golfer and don't have any serious plans of ever becoming one. I've been on a golf course less times than I have fingers on my left hand. Don't even know why I actually ever bought this game, in all truth. Good reviews I guess, something different from all the action titles and RPGS out there. Not too serious a game if you don't want it to be, but the depth is there if you're looking for it; about 12 unlockable players, tourneys, unlockable clubs and courses. Great fun. ;o)

      This game is okay
This game can be lots of fun, but you can get tired of it easily. You can do championship, where you have to choose a team and try and beat all the other teams. You can also do something where you can be playing against a friend. You can get into a fight with other players and fight them. One thing I like about this game is that you can get credits by answering a question right and spend them in the hockey shop, where there is different courses and made up teams that rock. Another thing I like about this game is taht it is 4 player. You can check, shoot, pass, and do a dance with your hockey stick that prevents checks. One really cool thing about this game is that you can make uo you're own team. You can name each player, name the team, choose a sign for your team, choose a number for each player, choose how good your players are, and choose if a player is fat, skinny, big headed, tall, short, or with sticking out ears. But like I said, it can get boring after a while. If you like everything I said about this game then you'll really like this game.

Hockey combined with the action of NFL Blitz
Being made by the same company as NFL Blitz, you can expect a lot of exaggerated action from this title, and that's exactly what you get. From hard hitting slap shots, to bone crushing checks, NHL Hitz provides a lot of fun even to those who hate hockey. The graphics on this game are great even for a hockey game. With realistic bodies, crowds, and stunning effects, you're drawn to the action on screen. The play control is great, with easy to execute maneuvers. Within minutes, you can be shooting, passing, spinning, and checking like a pro. The sounds of the game consist of the typical hockey sound effects, as well as an announcer who just loves to whip out sarcastic comments and provide great play by play commentary. The music consists mostly of techno and hard rock. A lot of the songs are good, just not my style. The game contains a whole lot of unlockable featrues. As you play matches you earn points which can be spent buying arenas, teams, jerseys, and custom heads. Along with designing your own team, you can also control any of the NHL teams. The game is a lot of fun, especially when more people get involved. Hockey has never been so fun until now.

      Great Game...
I have seen some of the online reviews for this game and they did not look good. But when I saw Hitz on sale at a store, I decided to try it. And I must say that this is a great game. Any fan of NFL Bitz style games and a fan of hockey should get it. It has some great features including a create-a-team and points to raise their stats. This game has few flaws, but one is that you can only use 3 skaters at one time for a whole period(3 minutes). All in all, this game is summed up like this:

      Pros:
Great music, includes tracks from Stained, Limp Bizkit, and Fuel.

Create-a-team options, also you can raise points up for the ultimate team.

High replay level. Even if you beat the game(isn't to hard), you can still play a friend, exibition, franchise, and a bunch of training games.

      Cons:
Only 3 players on a team, out of a possible 6 to choose from.

The gameplay ins't realistic(if that's what your looking for)

And there are too few movements, there should be combo moves like triple dekes and such.

But this game is great, and ANYONE who's a fan of sports should get it.

      Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
      Made by Activision
Age Group: 12 years and up
        Amazon base price: $
        List price: $49.99 (that's NaN% off!)
        Used price: $4.95

One of the most anticipated sequels in recent memory, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 builds upon the addictive gameplay of the original by adding many new tricks and features. The idea is still to perform complicated tricks for points, and players can still ride as Tony or any of an expanded roster of pros in the new game. Now, however, players can create their own skaters from scratch, selecting appearance, gear, clothes, and more. Players can also create their own ideal skate parks by instantly building ramps, rails, pipes, and other challenging obstacles.

All of the old tricks remain, but the game features hundreds of new additions. Of course, with all of these new tricks to master, there are also more detailed accidents: scraped knees, broken boards, and wall and (ouch!) pole collisions.

One of the best n64 games...
Tony Hawk 1 was amazing. Flat out amazing. I played it for about four months after it first came out, and I still play it at least once a week. THPS is the ideal video game. It's controls are very easy to get the hang of, and anyone can skate around and grind on stuff, pull off a few trucks and have a fun time. The beauty in it (like in all great games) is that you can take simple basics and turn them into amazing scores. Once you learn how to jump, grind, and do the basic moves, you can string together several moves into one long, huge point-gaining combo. The first game was so easy to learn, so addicting, and such a huge success.

THPS2 builds on the momentum gained in the first game by creating larger, more complicated boards, and adding on tons of features. While there were only 5 objectives for each board in THPS, #2 at least quadruples that number.

Tony Hawk 2 is more challenging than the first, has more characters, more options, and just more fun.

And they said there's such a thing as "too much of a good thing...

The sequel hits N64 shelves everywhere!
I bought this game the very first day it was available for purchase, and I must say it delivers. For those of you who were getting tired of doing the same old thing with Tony Hawk 1 for N64, this game is a much awaited, much anticipated marvel. Here are some pros and cons about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for N64.
PROS: ALL new locations, new skateboarders and all your old favorites, the VERY FUN skate park editor where you make your own park, great graphics, and easy-to-learn gameplay.
CONS: Every level contains 10 missions, some of which are practically impossible, not as much hang time as TH1, and I can almost guarantee you will get frustrated with some of the missions.
Overall, I would recommend this game to all the people who've been waiting for the sequel, but if you have a Playstation 2 then just wait for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 to hit stores(yes, there is such a game, there are previews in GamePro magazine!)

The Best Extreme Sports Game... wait, theres an N64 version?
Just read the title, this is one heck of a game. I've already mastered this game on hte Dreamcast and Game boy Advance but this N64 version was 9 bucks at Wal Mart so I just bought it for the cheap price even though I already owned it on 2 systems. Anyway this is a skateboarding game and you can play as 12 different pros icluding Kareem Cambell, Rune Glifberg, Bucky Lasek and of course Tony Hawk. The gameplay is pretty hard at first but you'll get used to it in no time and start doing 10+ trick combos. The replay value is just infinete you'll never get sick of playing it because of all the different tricks you can pull off in the amazing levels. The levels are fairly huge and filled with ramps and half pipes nad rails to grind. The graphics in this version are a little disapointing mainly because of the cartiridge format the N64 uses. There's mass pop up and fog but it's not too distracting from the gameplay. Theres is also slowdown and choppyness when things get extreme and there are a few glitches but once you get into the gameplay it's hardly noticable. The controls are also very good c left does the flip tricks, c up does the grinding on rails, c right does grab tricks and c down does the ollies (jumps). Very easy to control but the the N64 buttons you gotta press down hard unlike the Dreamcast controller. Some of the other features in the game include create a skater and create a park. Create a skater is okay but I dont think it's worth it, the create a skater in THPS 3 is amazing though theres a bigger variety (and you can make female skaters!). The create a park feature is what i love to use me and my friend just mess with that thing all day and yoiu can choose hundreds of ramps and rails and taxis... it's great. The sound effects in the game are great you can here the board roll down the pavement and the metal grinding against the board. Now theres the music we have to talk about. There are only 6 soundtracks on the N64 because of the cartiridge format and some of the songs are reduced, they are also not a very good quality sounding so I suggest you to turn the music off and turn on the stereo and listen to something else. The music soundtracks arent bad though it's just that the N64 makes it sound like crap, the Dreamcast version has the complte tracks in great quality and the songs are pretty good especially "No Cigar". The multiplayer in this is also great you can do the normal trick attack where the winner is the person with the most points made from tricks. There's Horse which is where you and the other player take turns doing tricks and you have to score higher than each others scores so you dont spell out horse. Then theres Graffiti which is my favorite where you have to skate on many objects as possible and the person who skated on the most objects when the time is up wins. Overall this game is the best extreme sports game ever created with THPS4 in second place. If you have a Dreamcast or PSone get it for those systems instead but N64 owners must own this.

          Nice Ramp
I think this ramp is sweet. It's true that after about a couple months the bottom grip wares off. What I do is put a towel under it and it wont slide. You can also try a cinder block. Its good for beginner's and pro's. If you are a biker you can get long distances. My record is 9ft with a bike! It is also good for rollerbladers who are beginners. What you have to be good at is skateboarding. It took me about 6 months to ollie off of it. It's awesome if you can do that. Or you can just roll of the end. I would reccomend this ramp to anyone who wants to learn to get big air on blades, bikes, or boards. Its a great ramp.

          A good ramp
This is not a bad ramp if your looking for something to play around with. I got mine when I was 8 or 9 and the sticky stuff on the bottom has worn off, so now I'v got put a brick in front of it to keep it from moving.

          Wow this thing Rocks!!!
I bought This ramp about a month ago. It has been really fun to jump off, of or do tricks with a bike, skateboard, or rollerblades. My friends and myself who have gone off this ramp have discovered(well not discovered but you know what I meen)that it is very easy to fall or slip on this ramp and that really hurts. So I reccomened you wear something to help break your fall if you do fall or just be careful.
Now lets talk about the BAD things about this ramp. First of all the grips slip and break VERY easily so you end up having to put screwdrivers or some medal pole to keep it from slipping. It gets scratches on it very easily too.
But the ramp is still very fun what product dosent have a few misshaps.
I urge you to buy this ramp its a very good ramp one of the best I've seen.

          Grow to Pro Basketball

Just about every child loves to dribble and shoot basketballs, but not every household with children has the right space for a court. This freestanding basketball hoop might be an ideal solution. Since the height of the hoop can be adjusted according to your child's height and skill level (the hoop goes as low as 42 inches and as high as 5 feet), this is a great investment for children as young as 3 years old. The large backboard (22 by 28 inches) helps keep the ball in play. You can make its heavy-plastic stand even more stable by filling the hollow base with sand or water. Wheels on the bottom make it especially portable. --Gail Hudson

It a family toy for everyone
AS soon as the boxes got to my house my wanted me to open right away. They played for hours. His family got together at our house and my sister-in law was playing her son who is 10 year old was out the girl next door. It was a crowd pleaser. Everyone had so much fun even my husband who is big on basketball. You also can bring it in the house in the winter as long as you keep under 5 feet. If you have anyone in the house who love sport this the perfect toys . the biggest thing I like about it is that is mobile. I have a three years old and four old and just love it.

            THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!
I have had this product for some time now and have called Fisher Price three times to have the rim replaced. They won't replace the rim anymore and have asked for me to ship the unit back to them to examine. IF any weight ie. tugging on the rim (or trying to emulate their NBA role models by hanging from it) or using a heavier ball, the rim will drop down because at the back of the rim the plastic is thin and crushes like an aluminum can. When the rim drops more than 45 degrees, the rim falls on the child and the heavy backboard then falls down like a guillotine on any child near it. Very unsafe in my opinion. I am going to see what other brands look like and I'm retiring this one.

            What's NOT to like?!?!
I can't believe anyone would complain about this product!!! It is absolutely WONDERFUL!!! The wheels let us move it all around, it easily adjusts to whatever height my son decides he wants it at (depending on whether he wants to shoot or dunk) and it has already lasted for 2 1/2 years and looks brand new. We're debating about buying a second one for outdoors so that we can keep the current one in his room! It is his favorite toy...

            Excellent Football Game
This game is insanely fun. I never thought I'd find a football game equal to Madden, but Espn Football Quickly shattered that thought.

            Controls and Graphics:

If you have ever played Madden you will be right at home here. The controls are almost identical and are very simple to learn. The graphics are excellent. The ESPN look and feel really add a lot to the game. It really enhances the feeling that you are controlling a real game.

            Gameplay:

The gameplay is very fun. Passing is a bit difficult at first, due to the cheating computer (who gives you all of 2 seconds to throw the ball before drilling your QB into the grass), but you'll learn quickly. The running game is insanely easy to rack up yards in (I routinely get 650 yards rushing a game, and no I am not amazing at football games). So how can I give this game 5 stars as a football game? It's fun. Even if it is a bit unbalanced and unrealistic at times, the game rocks . It has an incredible amount of unlockable stuff, and many differnt modes.
One huge problem: the commentary is extremely repetive, annoying, and bad. Also, the computer sometimes calls cheap penaltys on your team. Even with these quibbles, I had a very fun time playing ESPN Football. Whether you buy this or Madden is completely on prefernce: both games are excellent. Another fine year for football games.

            What a game
After reading several reviews, I finally decided it was time to go out and get ESPN NFL Football. I am so glad I did. Let me first say that I do like both Madden and ESPN NFL Football. They each have their high points. However, there are just times when I want to do nothing more than play football. Sure it's fun to build stadiums, raise prices on your snacks and stuff, but when I wanna play football, I go to ESPN. The gameplay is just better in my opinion. Play calling is so much easier, the running game is superb, the passing game is on target, and the overall fun factor can't be beat in my mind.

The crib is awesome. It's a great way to motivate you to go for the glory so to speak. When I first got the game, I thought that's nice - I'll never use it though. 4 games of air-hockey later and I am changing my tune.

First person playing, not my cup of tea - but a nice feature. Nothing againt it, I just have a hard time playing much anything other than driving games in first person. I have read several good reviews on this feature.

I like the ability to see the whole field, sideline to sideline. It helps so much with the passing game.

I use this mostly as a two player game, head to head with my son so most of the franchise options and season goodness hasn't been tested by me to the fullest, but from what I can see, this is where Madden will take over top position. But again, I enjoy having an easy game to sit down to, and play football. I guess I am not all that hard core.

ESPN, in my mind - your NFL game is the best out there. Madden is definitely next in line. The rest I found not to be worth the money.

            ESPN vs. Madden
Let me first begin by saying that I have played both football games. I bought Madden the first day it came out and was hooked out. Owner mode turned me into Jerry Jones. But about 4 months later, I found ESPN foootball for a measly $8. I called up my best friend and we got hooked. I love the openning to sequence with an aerial view of the stadium, watching the players get pumped, and the commentary. My jaw dropped.

Gameplay - The best I have ever seen. Although on the pro level it is too easy to break big runs, playing on the all-pro level, it feels a lot better. Playing with Ricky Williams, I continously pounded for that 3 yards and cloud of dust. I also loved the feeling when you tire out a defense and watch Ricky explode into the secondary for a 20+ yard run. However, there have been many games were I have just been straight up stuffed. My last game against the Pats got Ricky 23 carries for 67 yards. The passing game takes a little getting used too but it works. I have to admit that Madden's passing mechanics are a little better. The hook and curl routes were my forte in madden, but they don't seem to work as well in ESPN. As far as defense is concerned, the DBs come to play. Playing with the fins, I loved playing bump and run because Madison and Surtain just shut recievers down. Sacks and DL moves are more realistic and frequent. And I love watching the tackling animations and the linebacker pursuit is just a beautiful thing.

Commentary + Sound + Graphics - All top notch. Even the fans and thier painted faces.

Presentation - No one is better then ESPN. You can freakin watch NFL Primetime for Christ's sake. Primetime is my all time favorite show and to be able to watch it in May brought tears to my eyes. And I love the halftime show, Chris Berman rocks!!!!!!! The Crib is cool to.

            Few negatives -

Franchise mode - Not as deep as Madden but it will suffice. I love being able to break alltime records in Madden as hard as it was. I also liked being able to see carrer stats. Although, ESPN does keep track of carrer stats of players, you are only lucky to see them in a game. Also the salary cap is really annoying. In Madden if I have 7 million left in the cap room, don't take 3 million away if I sign Antonio Bryant for a 5yr 3 million dollar contract.

I hope ESPN makes the leaps and bounds Madden made with the Franchise mode, because if they do, Madden is going to be in hot water. If ESPN develops the franchise mode where you can track individual players carrer stats and make it as deep as maddens, then ESPN will have created the ultimate football experiance. But I do have two wishes:

            1. Harder Hits - I want to punish recievers with Rodney Harrison for running routes through the middle.

            2. Mel Kipper - I want him to analyze some of the rookies. Put a face on some of these rookies so I don't feel like I am drafting a name.

In 2001, Sega and developers Visual Concepts--the same people who brought you the NFL 2Kx series and other sports games--turned out a solid console baseball game that was a major improvement on the previous version and the first with head-to-head Internet play. This version for the Xbox marks a similar leap in quality, combining some of the best features of its competitors into one well-considered whole. Alas, the only thing missing is Internet play.

Going beyond motion-capturing batting stances (there are 89 distinct ones in here by my count), they've done a great job of animating pretty much every aspect of the game in pitch delivery, fielding, and base-running. The instant replay system, which borrows from and improves upon the one seen in the High Heat series, allows you to move the camera anywhere on the field to see the realistic movements at any speed. You can also use the feature to see the game's sophisticated artificial intelligence--for example, there's a brief, realistic delay when a player tags up from third on an outfield fly.

There's also a solid pitching game that lets a starter like Tim Hudson get off without a shelling when pitching heat down the middle, but try it with a pitcher like Byung-Hyun Kim and you're bound to see different results. And the TV-style zone chart shows which locations each batter is best at connecting to and where your sequence of pitches has landed.

A number of the new features are so obvious that you may wonder why you've never seen them before. One is a controller map in the pause menu that quickly shows you exactly which buttons perform the task you want. An option is also included that sets the relative speed of pitches to the plate. This really comes in handy when coming from another baseball game like All-Star Baseball 2003 where pitches seem to blur to the plate.

To put it bluntly, the game has almost no downside. There are some very powerful GM and manager functions--including a fantasy draft and exhaustive franchise tools--though using them is somewhat counterintuitive. Stealing is kind of tough to pull off; in one game, Ichiro got caught twice out of three attempts. And, as stated above, there's no Internet play--but that gives us something to look forward to for next year. --Porter B. Hall

              Pros:

              • Realistic player movement
              • Smart AI
              • TV-style zone chart marks hot and cold areas for each batter
              • Variable pitch-appearance speeds

              Cons:

              • No head-to-head play over the Internet
              Average review score:

Outstanding for both casual and extreme baseball fans
I should preface my remarks by saying that I haven't played any of the other modern baseball video games and so can offer little in the form of comparison. However, standing on its own merits, WSB is an excellent game. The franchise mode is everything it has been hyped up to be and it sets the standards for sports franchise gaming on the Xbox. Gameplay itself is slick and accurate, with a huge range of options to create an ideal gaming environment. You can make the game incredibly easy or incredibly difficult, making this the perfect "father-son" game. Dad can play with a slower pitch speed and really enjoy all the nuts and bolts of the franchise mode while the kid, with the reflexes of a eleven year old, can play with blink of the eye pitching speeds. The baseball is balanced and realisitc, with scores and the sort of plays you would see in a real, major league game. Pitching and hitting are both a ton of fun and the pitches really act the way they should. Curve balls curve, change ups look like fastballs until they suddenly droop out slowly at the end, sliders will flare out and then break sharply over the plate, and so on. If you have a good eye, you can spot pitches as they come out and hit accordingly, but better pitchers have better stuff that is harder to read just like better batters have larger hitting cursors and can drive the ball farther.

My criticisms of the game are minor, but enough to keep it from earning five stars. The baseball AI is occasionally questionable. Baserunners will make some of the most idiotic mistakes sometimes, manufacturing double plays that never should have happened. Also, against the computer, stealing a base is nigh to impossible, even with speedsters like Ichiro, and walks are not nearly as big a part of this game as they are in real life. Finally, it can be hard on the eyes to read over your stats sometimes as the folks at SEGA have decided to put colored stats up against similarly colored backdrops, causing them to meld together on poorer quality TVs. Straight black numbers against a white background would have been much easier to read.

However, please don't view the above list as a serious set of detractions. The game as a whole is enormously fun and dangerously addictive with tremendous replay value. The franchise mode is truly something special and if you like baseball, you'll love this game.

              Franchise
The franchise mode for this game is unbelievable as you can now watch your players develope throughout their entire careers. Cons of this franchise mode is that there are glitches such as during the middle of the your season your lineup may be discomobulated by the computer. The gameplay sucks as it always has. World series 2k1 is by far the best baseball game ever. So if you want pitches to come in unbelievably slow then this is the game for you.

              Unbelievable
This is the best sports game I have ever played. I've only played this year's versions of All Star Baseball and this game (Don't play games w/o franchise) and this game is so much better than WSB. I was scared to buy this game at first because I had never played it and I played and enjoyed ASB but I decided to buy WSB based on the reviews. If you're in a simular situation, I'd go with WSB because it's leaps and bounds better.

The gameplay is a little frustrating but once you get the hang of it, the game is a blast. I'm a big fan of Franchise mode in sports and this franchise mode is unbelievable, even better than Madden's franchise mode. Unlike any other game, you have an unlimited number of season to work with. You also have to hire managers, batting coaches, etc. and that's part of your budget. The budget system varies (You can choose to have the current budgets of the real life teams or have the budget off alltogether). What's also great about the budget system, you can gain more budget points depending on your team's success and W/L. There is also a player draft after each season where you draft new players for future use (Very cool!).

The point system for players is better than ASB and doesn't use the annoying A/B/C system, instead using a numerical system that goes up to 100. The system is very realistic as well, because unlike madden and other sports franchise games, if you have a great year with an average player like Kip Wells, his ratings will boost the next year and he'll be one of the best players in the league.

There are so many other things that make this game so great and realistic (GMs of bad teams getting frustrated and willing to trade a proven high priced players for some younger and cheaper talent) so buy the game!!

Oh by the way, that's just franchise mode. There's other features in the game, but franchise is so good it could carry this game alone.

              caution
after reading all the great reviews below of this game, i decided to buy it. i am a big fan of college football 2k3. and that is why i caution viewers of this: unlike basketball, or college football by sega, this game does not have broadcast style camera. when i first bought this i was shocked and frustrated i could not get the camera angle i wanted. despite all the games innovation, they could have had a better camera angle, heck they do on the replays. i do not like rear view and side view is too far away. i contacted espn video to see if they added this feature in their nfl 2k5 game coming out. i have not heard from them, and i am doubtful they will. that is dissapointing. also what happened to the college football series?

I Really Wanted to Like This Game, But I Still Prefer Madden
I admit, I've been playing Madden for years. I'm so familiar with the Madden line that I can play the newest addition and tell you which positional AI was changed to provide a more realistic football game. Unfortunately, EA and Microsoft could never work out a deal regarding Xbox Live so the best way to play ANY football sim (human vs. human) isn't available on the Xbox's Madden unless you have company. Thus I decided to learn ESPN NFL Football. Like everyone will tell you, ESPN Football has one heck of a slick presentation. The halftime and weekly highlights almost feel like you're watching ESPN Sportscenter. Madden could learn a lot from ESPN's presentation. I usually ignore franchise mode when I play Madden but I thought ESPN had such a nice interface that I ended up playing the CPU a lot. Unfortunately, I never could get used to the game mechanics of ESPN football. One huge difference between Madden and ESPN is that players move much more realistically in Madden. Momentum is gone in ESPN and it almost feels like I'm controlling a player in an NFL Blitz game because it's so easy to cut and turn. But worst of all is the attrocious tackling in ESPN. You can play on the toughest difficulty level and an average halfback can look like Earl Campbell because he bounces off so many tackles. Speaking of difficulty levels, that was a real disappointment as well. Basically, when you increase the difficulty, all it does is make the CPU tougher, and you worse. So you can't tackle as well as your normally would but the CPU tackle goes way up! There are a lot of things in ESPN I wish Madden would try and I think if someone were ever able to combine both games, we would get the perfect football sim, but for now I'll stick with Madden. I would recommend ESPN for anyone that is new to football games as it's much easier to play than Madden and has an entertaining ESPN theme to it. There's a reason why NFL players stick with Madden though, it's still the best football sim out there.

              Wow. Sega Sports scores big!!
First, I must admit that I've been along time fan of the Madden series and have alot of respect for it. Madden 2004 is a great game, BUT is no where near ESPN Football.

This game is loaded and was very well thought out from the ground up. The running game is fantastic, and I love how you can charge your player up for a super move. It takes some pretty good timeing to get used to, however its fun and sometimes effective. Should we even mention the passing? It's awesome. I love having the ability to check out the defensive formation, see who is going to have one on one coverage and try and exploit the weakness its awesome. Oh, yeah and its also nice knowing that the computer on offense or defense is not going to auto adjust its-self to counter act what ever play you pick. And lastly there is the defense end of things. Gang tackling is a must and is very incouraged. However the ability to read what the offense is doing or what you think they are doing, just adds so much realism.

Next, I would like to mention the presentation. The graphics are almost perfect. The cheerleaders actually shake there money makers. And your fans go crazy, with face paint, signs, the whole 9 yards. Not to mention the half time summary is truly amazing. And then there are the instant replays WOW!!
Oh, my and then there is audio. The crowd ambience, music playing on the pa, the players constantly punking each other out. Some times calling the QB or HB by there first names.

This game is by far the best football game I have ever played. We have weekly touranments in the dorm, and it doesnt matter if you are playing or not, people still come and watch. This game is exciting, the graphics are outstanding, and the sound is out of this world.

              Good game Sega sports. GG.

              Hall of Fame Game
Tiger Woods Pga Tour 2004 is the one of the best sports games ever made. It has tons of game modes that are all 100% fun, while also challenging the gamer. At first Tiger woods PGA Tour 2004 is hard to get used to, but after a few rounds of 18 you will be having so much fun you can't stop. The rewards you can earn are unbelievable. EA Sports definetly shot a hole in one with this game.

Tons of golf-at-home fun for your PS2!
This game is ton of fun for everyone, golfer or not! Tiger Woods 2004 is another great game by EA Sports, makers of all the best sports titles. Pick one of a wide array of pros, (Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, & more) or create your own golfer with the Game Face feature! (this feature is awesome!) Start a career and play in tournaments over a ten year span to win money, trophies, and set records on over 13 different courses! I've been playing this game non-stop since I got it! Out of 10- Overall: 9.0 - Graphics: 9.0 - Gameplay: 9.5 - Replayability: 9.0.

              Tiger Woods- BIG HIT
I have been a big fan of the recent "Tiger Woods" golf series for Playstation 2. The newest installment to that series, "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004" is an awesome game. I own the 2002 version and have played the 2003 version, but the newest version blows both of them away.
For starters, Gary McCord (current PGA announcer and former player) has signed on to do the commentary. BIG step up from the voices from the previous versions that tended to get very repetitive. David Faheretty is back to do the play-by-play analysis. He does good work.
A ton of new courses have been added, both real and created. Pinehurst #2 is probably the most notable, along w/ the famous public course Bethpage Black.
Along with the new new courses, new players have been added. John Daly makes his appearance, as well as Retief Goosen and others.
Career mode is a new feature, allowing a player to play through a 10 year career. It's a nice feature, better than the previous tournament mode. There are no more 18 hole tournaments for a couple grand to the winner.
The match play mode has been improved, sending you all over the world map playing in various "regions." Defeating a player at each level of each region is the goal.
Overall, INCREDIBLE new game, a must buy without a doubt for any Tiger Woods series fan AS WELL AS anyone that thinks they might enjoy a "golf" game. Best game of the series by far. Get it!

                THPS 2X
Tony Hawk 2X is exactly what you expect -- an amazing translation of Tony Hawk1 and 2 with extra touches such as more detailed characters, and crisper textures and details on the environments. Unfortunately, because it's exactly what you expect, this isn't a game that can be recommended to everyone. If you haven't played Tony Hawk 1 or 2 on the other systems, AND you've just picked up an Xbox, then this is definitely worth your purchase. If you've already played the games on the other systems, AND don't own a GameCube or PS2 with which to play Tony Hawk 3, then this might be a game to consider for you launch package. But if you answered no to any of the above, this is probably not worth your money, unless you're a die-hard Tony Hawk completist that must own every version ever made. Despite the new additions, this just can't compete with the gameplay in NeverSoft's latest effort, no matter how polished.

Tony Hawk 2 levels + Tony Hawk 1 levels + 5 new ones!
Pro Skater is a skateboarding game like no other, first, chose from 13 pro skaters each with their own tricks, stats and special moves or create your own custom made pro skater. Then have them skate in eight detailed skate parks (several more hidden!). The price of this game is so low (because it is dated), and the graphics are a huge step up from the Playstation and N64 versions, such as very detailed textures and even graffiti looks great. The X-Box version of this game does a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong. This game came out after Tony Hawk 3 had come out, and could have included several upgrades from the superior Tony Hawk 3 game. The makers of the game did not use the X-Box to its full capability, such as having limitless saves for replays, created skaters and created skate parks. There are no custom soundtracks either, which is a huge let down with the X-Box's hard drive able of keeping music on it. The game really needs to be divided into three parts, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 part, that has eight courses to skate on where for each course, there are a number of goals to accomplish for each, such getting high scores by earning points from performing tricks, grinds, and jumps over gaps (like building to building), collecting the letters SKATE, grinding three rails, jumping over fire hydrants and various other things, they vary from level to level. When you complete a goal you get money to gain cash that you can buy new skateboards, upgrades to better your skater and you can also buy bigger tricks. The second part comes after you complete the Tony Hawk 2 game, then it unlocks a new career, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2X, which consists of five ALL NEW courses exclusively for the X-Box. The levels are a nigh club in London, a construction site in Texas, a skate park in Tampa Bay (the skate park is also in Tony Hawk's Underground), and two fictional areas, the subway and a skatepark with large grinds. There are new goals to do, but you do not get money for completing these goals. These courses are very lack luster and look more like they were rejected from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1, which brings us to the third part of the game. Once you go through three of the Tony Hawk 2X levels that unlocks the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 levels! You can skate through them pretty quickly, even with the upgraded textures there are no other improvements to the Tony Hawk 1 levels. The game has twenty-four courses in all!

I'm so addicted to this game I need to go to Rehab!
After getting into music and reading, my hobby of playing video games kind of faded into the shadow of those two things. But recently, I picked up this game used for about 5 dollars because it seemed like a good deal. IM HAPPY I DID! Right after putting this game in, I was sucked into the world of Tony Hawk and skateboarding. I became so addicted to this game I played it non-stop until I had 100 % on all the THPS 2 levels and got all the THPS Tapes from THPS 1 and 2x. Along with the excellent and well-crafted levels of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, you also get the creative and always-fun bonus levels of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x! Plus, to round out the package, you get the entire THPS 1! Although not as creative or long as THPS 2, these levels never dissapoint in the least, and you still have a blast playing them! Trust me, when you buy this, you will not stop playing this till you have beaten every inch of this game, and then you can do Free Skate for ages and it never gets old! The only things I didn't really like about this game was that the soundtrack was a little lame and the Create-a-Park feature wasn't to comphrehensive and slightly limited! This goes well with Metallica or AC/DC!

Highly Recommended! Great deal for the XBOX!
