At first glance, NHL 2000 resembles last year's graphically stunning feast for the eyes, but does include multiple visual upgrades such as crisper player models and better animation. After playing NHL 2000 for a game or two, especially in one of the television-style camera modes, you'll find it hard to distinguish from the real thing. Fortunately, playing NHL 2000 provides as much enjoyment as watching; the controls are rock solid and elements like scoring and goalie intelligence have been fine-tuned to offer a more realistic hockey experience.
All NHL teams and players are accounted for, including the expansion Atlanta Thrashers. Furthermore, EA Sports continues to update the NHL 2000's player roster via a small download from their Web site. One of NHL 2000's best additions over last year's version is smooth Internet gameplay. Using EA Sports' intuitive Internet interface, you can compete against aspiring NHL players from all over the world. If you're more interested in the solo game, NHL 2000 offers full season competition, including a new career mode with free agency and rookie drafts. --Doug Radcliffe

Hockey purists may take umbrage at the "fun" argument, since NHL Championship 2000 is more realistic than NHL 2000's check-heavy, high-scoring action hockey game. The game results in NHL Championship 2000 are generally believable, and each victory over the computer is earned, since the AI is quite good. However, some of the on-ice action is too jerky, such as sudden and violent body checks between two players who are standing stock-still. Also, many of the goals scored in NHL Championship 2000 happen so quickly that it's nearly impossible to follow the path of the puck. And the speed of these goals isn't just a byproduct of realism; it's more often the fault of poor camera angles and confusing jumbles of players that prevent you from controlling the player you ought to be controlling.
Still, this is a fine hockey game. The graphics are good and most of the animations are excellent--especially the goalie glove saves. NHL Championship 2000 accurately captures the flow of a real ice hockey game, and hard-core fans of the sport will no doubt appreciate that quality in this title. --Michael E. Ryan
Pros:
- Can be realistic at higher difficulty levels
- Good graphics
- Captures the Fox Sports TV look and feel
- Bad play-by-play
- Confusing game play at times
- The accursed Fox Trax puck

Good game for the price
THE MOTHER OF ALL HOCKEY GAMES1. Defensemen will clear any pinhead not wearing the same sweater creeping around the goalmouth. They'll either lay a shoulder on you or viciously cross-check you so that you're sprawled out on the ice.
2. Referees swallow their whistles as the third period winds down. Unless, of course, you get a bit too chippy with your elbows, especially away from the puck, then into the box you go! If you love pummeling the puck-handler, you'll often find yourself short-handed. Which brings me to...
3. Penalty killing is a necessary skill. You can't bomb down the ice with the puck while short-handed since the game forces you to kill off the infractions. If you do have room to skate, you'll be hesitant to carry it past the red line. Dump it and hustle back to the defensive zone, otherwise, you're stuck in no-man's land.
4. The dump-and-chase works remarkably well. In fact, once a goalie misplayed a puck that was dumped into a corner, the left wing beat him to the puck, passed it off to a pinching defenseman...GOAL!
5. The goalie makes spectacular sliding pad saves, fabulous kick saves, and has the best glove save outside of the Air Canada Centre. If the goalie's shoulders are squared to the shooter, he'll make a save EVERY time. Therefore, crash the net, set up one-timers, or deflect the puck shot from the blue line to score. Rarely, if you keep slapping away at the goalie as he attempts to smother the puck, you'll get a cheap goal (chances are you'll be on your back thanks to a protective defenseman).
6. The most effective way of stifling an odd-man situation is to hook one of them. This slows him down enough to disrupt the scoring chance, and, just like in the NHL, it never gets called!
7. Turn off the music and the commentators to enjoy the sounds of the game: the fans, the skating, the sticks, the boards, the pipe, and the players absorbing punishment and getting rattled off of the glass. Do yourself a favor and wear headphones, it's like you have $100 seats. By the way, ALWAYS be the home team since the crowd reacts to your play, and there's nothing better than scoring a goal and hearing the fans go nuts.
8. The devil is in the details. You can neutralize opposing players while mucking for the puck. If you wait long enough, you can force a defenseman down in an attempt to block the shot, then skate around him for a better scoring chance. Tick-tack passing will keep defenses on its heels. A goal was once scored by ricocheting the puck off of the unsuspecting goalie's skate.
My wish list:
1. A goal lamp would've been a nice touch.
2. Defensemen able to clutch players (hold too long and get whistled).
3. Broken stick if slap-shot button held too long.
If you want fluff, get the other hockey games. If you want to play virtual hockey, get this one.

Probably the best snowboarding title for PS1Not leaps & bounds better than the CoolBoarders series, but slightly less cartoonish and with a better focus on the various modes, instead of a hodgepodge of fighting/racing/tricking. Certainly underrated.

The sculpt is great. The facial likeness is okay, not dead-on.
The problem with the figure is that it doesn't stand. Both mine and my friend's figures are horribly tilted at 45% after just a few months of display.
The metal rod is still straight, but either the hole in the shoe has expanded or the leg itself has warped. Either way, the piece just looks silly on display.
... I was very excited to get this figure. Now I wish I'd never bought it.
Perhaps MacFarlane will try again.
