Everything about Hoops is overly complicated, with no real payoff. The players can be personalized and stylized--you get to pick haircuts, jewelry, tattoos, and clothing. But instead of being a cherry on top of an otherwise great game, this decoration is in some ways more interesting than the actual court time. This issue of mixed-up priorities really takes root in the mechanics of the game. Considering there's no tutorial, the overly designed controller configuration gets in the way of just starting up and playing the game for the fun of it. In another example, unless you assign controllers to teams in the opening menu, the game mysteriously starts playing itself.
The music is great, with songs by mainstream hip-hop artists. But the abundance of tie-in deals seems like overcompensation for poor play. Hoops sometimes feels like a catalog, heavy with ads for clothing, sneakers, and sunglasses. In a spectacular example of the obtrusiveness of this co-branding, gamers can get cheats by buying real-world Sprite (vending machines for the soda are also littered throughout the game maps). Still, there's a fair amount to recommend Hoops--mainly the presence of real-life street ballers. The opening cinematic of inspired tricking makes you want to invest the time to make this game pay off. Anyone who just wants to play a little ball with their friends--a pickup game instead of a tournament--would be better off looking to the unmatched NBA Street. --Jennifer Hauseman
Pros:
- Options like taunt and intentional foul evoke true baller bravado
- Hip-hop soundtrack includes "Da Rockwilder" (Method Man and Redman), "Who We Be" (DMX), "Make Em Say Ugh" (Master P), and "Rollout" (Ludacris)
- More development time was spent on partnership deals than gameplay

THE WORST GAME I EVER PLAYED!
All-Star Street-BallThe game styles include 3 on 3, World Tournament and many others.
Also you can unlock different parks and players as you go along(Rucker Park and Hot Sauce)
Another good part about this game is that you can buy your team new haircuts, jewlery, clothes, tatoos with the money you win if you bet on your game.

The skating is silky smooth and the graphics are extremely fast, including a motion-blurred puck during high-speed shots. There's nothing more satisfying than knocking the wind out of another team's lead scorer with the dedicated big-hit button, and the incredibly responsive controls make finesse shots possible. Icon passing makes sure players get the puck to the correct man, and those who wish to leave nothing to chance can take control of their goalkeepers in midplay. With the help of Multi-Tap adapters, up to eight people can play this king of hockey games. --Jeff Young
Pros:
- Options and AI opponent strength scale to all skill levels of gamers
- Big hits, slap shots, one-timers, and other hockey maneuvers are easy to execute
Cons:
- The game is much better when played against human opponents

There are more than 100 tricks to master, which is necessary if you want to unlock secret levels or outrun the donut-eating cops. Since motion-capture technology was used to design the movement of each skater, each special move looks fairly natural when executed. In addition, each environment is completely interactive. For example, you will see leaves fall from a tree if you happen to hit it. Of course, you can also interact with objects to show off your skating skills. We had fun sliding down ramps and jumping over trashcans.
One of the strengths of Thrasher: Skate and Destroy is its phenomenal hip-hop soundtrack, which features icons like Grandmaster Flash, Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Sugar Hill Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, Public Enemy, Stetasonic, and Run-D.M.C. --Carrie Bell
Pros:
- Endorsed by Thrasher magazine
- One of the only freestyle skating games on the market
- Totally interactive environments
- Difficult to master
- Graphics could use some sharpening

Great Game
BeST SkateBoarding Game EVER !
the only alternativemaybe it's the video game crime of the century, because there are 5 tony's soon to be 6, and only one thrasher. can you imagine what this game would have turned into in 5 sequels? just the fact that I still play it after 5 years should tell you something.
I'll also tell you that the game is pretty hard, and yeah the fall animations can get annoying. but, that's just it - after you master the controls and flow, and I mean master it, you won't fall for what seems like forever. and when you do fall, you adjust - like the game becoming part of you.
I don't know, but as a skater, I prefer this one over tony, and that's all skaters got, really?

This game sucks
Great Game with many cool features but problems lag gameThe problems that have lagged this game are the gameplay mechanics. Problems include late game heroics where you could have a lead and the CPU cheats to win on the Madden diffuculity. You could have a lead against the LIONS 21 to 0 and the game cheats at the end to make the lion win. Very frustrating. Configuring your controller can take days to record and memorize them all and they should simplify this because no one has time to remember these all.

In terms of playability, EA Sports has added some nice new features. Players are rewarded with collectable in-game Madden Cards by performing certain tasks, which can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and legendary NFL teams. Also, you can trade those cards with friends using the PlayStation memory card. Enhancing the replayability of Madden NFL 2001 is a new two-minute drill feature that allows up to 10 players to compete for the highest score.
The game does have a couple of trouble areas. The CPU play isn't all that synched with the gameplay, resulting in some very strange calls and plays. John Madden's commentary is stocked with only a few phrases, which are used ad nauseam. While not perfect, the sound effects and crowd noises are still preferable to the whiny blips of the N64 version. --Todd Mowatt
Pros:
- Collectable Madden Cards can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and teams
- New two-minute drill feature
- CPU sometimes makes very strange calls and plays
- Repetitive Madden phrases

Playstation's best as far as Football goesAs far as the intangibles, there have been many improvements over 2000. The addition of Madden Cards is a definite plus, as is the 2-minute drill. The Hot and Cold feature is very interesting, and adds a more realistic feel. Do you start a cold Marshall Faulk, or a hot Trung Canidate? A cold Drew Bledsoe, or a hot Michael Bishop?
The Franchise mode has seen improvement as well: the salary cap seems to be more realistic now when signing free agents, and the NFL Draft is now 7 rounds instead of just 4. But maybe the best new feature is the addition of the Preseason mode, which allows you to pick your opponents for 4 or 5 games, to sharpen the skills of your rookies and get a feel for your new acquisitions. Then once the preseason ends, young players who performed well will see added points to their attributes. Really helps to develop rookies, and just to try new plays which you aren't accustomed to using.
All that being said, this is still not the perfect football game. There are statistical errors you will encounter at various times, most notably the tracking of kick-off and punt returns during a season. You see, it only tracks 2 players' stats for kick-off returns, and just 1 for punt returns. Thus, if only 1 of your kick returners got the ball during the first week, and at the end of the game the opposing team attempts an onside kick recovered by one of your linemen, the return stats for that lineman will be tracked for the rest of the season. And your second return man is left statless. Same thing with punt returns. If your returner is performing badly and you choose to bench him, his replacement will see zero stat-tracking. Pretty frustrating if that player returns one 80 yards for a touchdown.
Another minus is the commentary, which tends to induce sleepiness. Summerall has no enthusiasm in his voice, and Madden repeats the same stuff when he does choose to say something (he can go a full game on here and only speak 3 or 4 times). You'd think he'd know he made his point when he says "Randy Moss is one of the best receivers in the league today." But then, two plays later when Moss makes another catch, you hear him repeat the same thing yet again.
Still, this is an all-around solid game, which succeeds in most areas. It is much better than Gameday 2001, so if you're looking for a football game for Playstation, this is the one you want.
Solid gameThe franchise mode is what truly makes the game. It is easy to spend hours trading and drafting players and signing free agents to create the ultimate team. Unfortunately, the franchise mode has not been significantly altered in terms of difficulty from that of Madden 2000. It is still too easy to acquire the best player at every position for your team, and, strangely, even when you've done that your team will often suffer through losing seasons if you simulate the games. The salary cap is not realistic--just offer older players lengthy contracts to induce them to sign, and when they retire you don't have to deal with a cap hit. And whenever there is a good draft, it is easy to trade all of your aging players to computer-controlled teams for high draft picks, enabling you to draft virtually any and all of the players you want to. The seven round draft is a great feature, but the drafts often seem repetitive. Once I had the exact same draft in consecutive off-seasons, even down to the player names. And 10 consecutive years in which the highest rated player entering the league is a 75-rated punter leads to a rather thin talent pool. Also annoying is the fact that, after playing well over 100 franchise years, I have yet to see a guard develop to over an 81 rating.
One final complaint is that the great fantasy draft tournament feature from 2000 is absent from the newer title. You can still fantasy draft, but the tournament format is not the same. Or if you fantasy draft in certain modes, you don't get to control one specific team.
Aside from these complaints, however, the game is great. On the field, the graphics are slightly better than 2000, and the gameplay has a more realistic feel as player size and momentum are taken into account in tackling. The franchise mode, despite its flaws, is highly entertaining and addictive. If only it were more realistic, this game would be perfect.

The raft of changes that has been added to this version of Knockout Kings includes a new way to throw punches, aptly called Dynamic Punch Control. This feature allows you to control and put together punch combinations that will outwit the other fighters you face. The limitless combinations add a new level of replayability to the title that didn't exist in previous installments.
You can create dream bouts using some of the best boxers the world has ever seen. The lineup includes Smoking Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and Julio Cesar Chavez. Better yet, put them up against some of boxing's current stars such as Oscar De La Hoya, Lennox Lewis, or Michael Grant.
EA Sports has left no stone unturned when it comes to the sweet science of boxing. New fighting styles now allow gamers to create boxers with attacks that mimic those of boxing's legends, such as Ken Norton's crab style or Rocky Marciano's slugger style. --Todd Mowatt
Pros:
- New haymaker punches
- Signature moves of famous boxers
- Learning curve of this boxing simulation may turn off arcade gamers just looking to rabbit punch a couple of palookas

OK Boxing Game
Buy this instead of horrible KO Kings 2002
