MVP looks great. The field, players, and animations are all smooth and realistic looking. Instead of placing the camera directly behind the batter in the default view, theyve gone for a slightly tilted camera that better simulates a batters view of the ball screaming in. The only graphical glitch is that the batting box is too small visually. Curves dont break correctly, change-ups dont drop enough, and this just plain looks weird. However, the mini-diamond that shows the situation (including how much of a lead the opposing team's runners take) is just about perfect.
Rather than simply demanding you keep your eye on the ball, MVP has a batting box that predicts where the ball will go. This makes hitting too easy and pitching a bit too hard. A pitcher has too little time to get the ball icon within the strike zone. Other sims do it better. The other problem is with fielding. You have decent control (they avoided World Series Baseballs rookie error) but changing players is neither quick nor easy and the game forces your player to dive when you dont want to. Tossing it back to base isnt as intuitive or smooth as it should be either. Youll get used to it but, again, other games do it much better.
MVP is a strong debut but it just isnt a contender for the Hall of Fame.--Andrew S. Bub
Pros:
- Great graphics
- Realistic baseball action
- Franchise mode
- Pitches dont "break" correctly
- Fielding system is out of whack
- Franchise mode lacks initial draft

Another botched EA game on XboxPROS: 1. everything Triple Play wasnt
2. some original spots (throw meter, franchise momentum, etc.)
3. commentary is decent
CONS: 1. lightyears behind the other baseball games
2. yet another case of PS2 graphics syndrome
3. Faces look pasted on
4. controls are confusing
5. there is no point to Pitching
6. Franchise mode is all hype
7. cannot control fielding at all
8. impossible to get on base
9. beginning trailer is a real turnoff
FINAL VERDICT: do not waste your time and money on buying this game. If you think I'm wrong, rent it first, then well see whos saying, "why didn't you tell me this game stunk?"
Loads Of FunThis game is lots of fun. It has great graphics and sound. The gameplay is exciting and engaging. Best of all, no batting cursors! The batter/pitcher interface is unique and the true highlight of this game. You can control location, break and speed of your pitches. The pitching gauge lets you know how effective your pitch will be and how tired your picher is also. Batting is all about timing and location. The Franchise mode is engaging as you manage your players and your budget. My only gripes are the exclusion of features i liked in Triple Play (Showing pitch counts, bullpen warmup, homerun animations and showing pitch locations). I've rented WSB2K3,HHB 2004 and ASB2K4. I was impressed with all of the extra features in all of these games ..but they just weren't as FUN as MVP Baseball 2003.
I hope next year's has all the best additions that the other games have but still retain the exciting game play included in this game.

New additions to the fine Madden 99 game include faster yet less-detailed graphics, smoother animation, and additional onscreen treats such as goalpost nets, yard markers, and sidelines filled with coaches and teammates. One of the greatest new features is the hot route option, enabling players to change individual receiver routes at the line of scrimmage--it's like an audible, but doesn't require changing the entire play. More goals beyond just winning are here in the form of the Madden Challenge, giving players access to hidden stadiums and other goodies for successfully completing a series of increasingly difficult tasks, such as 30-plus yard receptions or a having a running back rush for over 100 yards in a game.
The artificial intelligence (AI) is still as slick as ever, but this game is best when played in two-player mode. Play-by-play commentary has been expanded for this game, but remains a bit sparse. A word of warning: the arcade mode is still pretty heavy on simulations, so only veterans or players who enjoy a steep learning curve need apply. --Jeff Young
Pros:
- The hot routes option adds more depth of control
- Faster graphics keep the game moving along
- Improved running game makes for more balance between passing and running
- New player graphics are not very smooth
- Controls and play selection are tough to learn for novice gamers

Comparable , maybe better than Playstation!??
Madden great - but manual claims features that aren't thereNeedless to say I am quite an expert how the new features compare.
Each year Madden continues to amaze me with features, graphics and gameplay.
I have played a variety of other football games for N64 such as NFL Blitz and NFL Quarterback Club 1999 and 2000 and I must say that Madden is by FAR the superior gaming system. Quarterback club has better graphics, but the game play is pathetic and almost impossible to play.
NFL Blitz is more arcade style and I didn't find it be realistic for the purpose of a true simulation.
Madden does have a few problems:
(1) the manual that comes with the game indicates that you can create a player, and in fact one of the madden challenges involves creating a player and playing a game. I however, have not found the menu anywhere in the game that allows you to edit/create a player. I have checked Easports.com and only the playstation version appears to be able to do that. It would seem to me that they should have printed two manuals then (one for N64 and one for playstation).
(2) Every player has arms that are like Hulk Hogan. I think that is crazy.
(3) The sounds of the crowd of are terrible and over the course of the 15 minute/quarter game tends to give a headache.
Despite my criticism, this game is still the best by far of all other N64 football games available!
The Franchise Mode makes it a must for gridiron fans

Thanks to its smarter-than-average artificial intelligence, NFL 2K3 sports a somewhat steep learning curve that requires sound football simulation instincts. Knowing your teams strengths and weaknesses will ultimately be a big help if you hope to win at the games advanced levels. Be prepared to mix up your play calling and make adjustments instead of thinking the same old reliable plays will get the job done. Of course, practice mode is always there if you need to work the kinks out of your game plan and master the multitude of offensive and defensive sets at your disposal.
Graphically, sports games dont come much better looking than NFL 2K3. Among the highlights: player animations are amazingly realistic and lifelike, and a wide array of facial emotions appear that are relative to game scenarios; stadiums are painstakingly re-created to take on almost postcardlike feel; and replays access a wide variety of angles to put you right on the field or in the stands.
One area in which NFL 2K3 easily aces Madden is its game commentary. As part of the games ESPN broadcast presentation, announcers Dan Stevens and Peter OKeefe call every bit of the action in varied detail. Their comments are far removed from stale Maddenisms, offering worthwhile play breakdowns, player assessments, and quips that dont make you wince in disgust (at least not too often). Stevens and OKeefe, along with the crowd, will let you hear about it when you bite it on the field. --Larry White
Pros
- Superb graphics in most areas
- Commentators sound realistic and rarely repeat themselves
- Challenging AI forces you to adapt your game plan
Cons
- Receivers can't be put in motion
- Slow, lofting quality of the passes
- No ability to challenge plays
- Often unrealistic player animations

Almost PerfectHowever, I still feel as if there are a few huge things missing. The online play is horrible. Every game I play seems to have a bad connection, and I'm on a good broadband connection. Also, the goalies are impossible in the higher skill levels. In 2k3 I would win about 75% of the games on Hall of Famer level and now I struggle to get a goal on All-Star. The goalies are too good as you can rattle off amazing shot after amazing shot and still fall short. Even turning down the CPU goalie skill doesn't do much. They have to fix this for next year as the skill levels offer to much of a jump.
Overall I like this game a lot and it's a good improvement from 2k3. Also, ENOUGH WITH THE SHOULDER!!
Very Good Hockey Game... ButBut we're talking bout this game not EA right? OK so while I was very happy with this game I was little frustrated due to two main things. 1) Unless you're prepared to spend as longer tinkering with the gameplay slides for as long as you plan to play the game ( I exagerate but still haven't perfected the levels I want top play at). This game is either too easy, or insanely hard. You can jump from pro to all star with an average NHL team and go from winning games 10-7 (this is hockey not football by the way haha) to losing 3-0(more respectable score) but try clearing puck out of your own end without icing it haha. I have figured a semi compromise but as I said it took much adjusting different levels of gameplay to get scores even close. @) Sega added few new features that are cool like skybox, but they could have even improved over last years model even more. Other than that the gameplay is fluid enough for most tastes the graphics while not mind blowing are very good especially the facial features. Overall this is a really fun fun game, but hasn't quite reached its potential as an NHL video console game of knocking EA's NHL 2004 off its hockey pedastal. Oh one more thing the commentary is EXCELLENT.
Greatest Hockey Game EverOh, and if anyone doubts me, go to IGN.com or Gamespot.com or any other major website that reviews games. They'll agree that ESPN is way better than EA Sports.

The three-man broadcast booth of Bob Brenly, Thom Brennaman, and Steve Lyons provides in-depth commentary. The Cooperstown Hall of Fame team features such sluggers from the past as Mike Schmidt, Reggie Jackson, and Yogi Berra. All 30 major-league teams and more than 900 players are represented, all with official stadiums, logos, and uniforms. There are more than 50 stadiums from which to choose, including eight classic stadiums and 10 expansion stadiums.

Great game, but a MAJOR problemBut, there is one major problem. This is a quote from the booklet..."WARNING: You cannot save Franchise or Expansion mode games using current Memory Cards...Mid Season Franchise or Expansion requires 1 File and 153 Blocks to save. Current Memory Cards have a capacity of 59 blocks."
You CANNOT Franchise or create an Expansion team! I think that is a major negative for this game. If you buy this game, I would highly suggest getting the new Gamecube 16X Memory Card... it is an extra [item price], but it will be very worth it for this game, and, I'm sure, future games will have the same issue. That card has something like 1000+ blocks, so you won't ever need to buy a new card again.
Hope this helps.
Almost as good as the real thing! However, the navigational menus and on-screen pitch selectors are pretty hard to read. There are a lot of tiny little words on a huge screen and you really need to squint to see them. I'm sure that after playing it for a while I won't need to rely so much on the selector, but it's giving me eye-strain in the meantime.
The most disappointing thing for the moment, though, is that the game requires a huge amount of memory to be saved. It's very frustrating that I'll need to get another, larger, memory card just for this game. But I will go ahead and get the card, because the Franchise and Expansion modes sound so cool, I simply have to. It makes me think that Acclaim is in cahoots with the memory card manufacturers.
That aside, the game play and graphics are worth the price of the game alone.
The All-Star Series is BACK!Of course, since 1999, all the All-Star games feature the same diffeent types of gameplay including: Exhibition, Season, Series, Home Run Derby, Batting Practice, Create A Player, etc. Well get ready All-Star lovers because this 2003 version has a brand new feature never seen before. The new feature is called "Expansion Mode." This mode allows you to build your own baseball team. First, you chose from over a dozen major cities througout the US that have never been used before such as: Dallas, Hartford, Birmingham, etc. Then you choose your team's new stadium with 6 never before used staiums. Then you choose the team's logo which includes everything from: Aviators - Tornadoes. Then of course you have a player draft to put your team together and make it come alive. The last thing is choose your league either National or American. This features is awsome!
A new minor feature is in Season mode. First of all, you can create your own player and put him on the team roster before you start a season. Remember you couldn't create another player once your in Season mode? Well on this one you can! Anytime during the season you can create another player and add him to your roster. Another small feature is the Weather Forecast. On the main menu of your season there is an icon that says Weather Forecast. When you enter this option it shows you all the forecasts for all the scheduled games for that particular day. There is a huge US map that has a star on the location you're looking at the forecast for. It Below it displays the game of who versus who, the day's high and low temps with a weather picture next to it such as: Rain, Sunny, Cloudy, Overcast, etc. Then it displays the current temp, and also the wind speeds along with the precipitation percentage. This is a real cool feature.
The gameplay is outstanding. The game features accurately updated player batting and pitching stances. Also it features new throwing and fielding manuevers more and more like real life. The faces are so incredibly detailed that you actually think you're at the game! The stadiums look 10x better than ever before and also include the new stadiums for Expansion mode, Batting Practice and Home Run Derby.
However, there is a bit of a downside to the game's gameplay which is why I rated the game 4 stars instead of 5. In all the All-Star games the cathes are a little off to the side and not exactly lined up with the glove. That is basically the only downside to the game. Other than that this game is undoubtably amazing. This is the best of the All-Star series yet and it just keeps getting better and better from here. It's all up from here on!

An excellent update to NFL BlitzFirst off, blitz 2001 stinks. Don't buy it, don't rent it. It's a totally different, and totally awful, game.
Now, as for Blitz 2000, which this review is about.."EXCELLENT" !
It's a very nice update to Blitz. Faster gameplay, smoother gameplay, and a little more realism has been added, without sacrificing the insanity that is the Blitz series.
It's nice to see additional plays for the offense. I wish defense had more though.
Also, Turbo Hits are actually useful now as you can knock the ball out of a runner/receiver's hands for the fumble. Interceptions are a bit more realistic, as are the pass patterns.
Buy it !
this game just doesn't get boring
A MUST-HAVE FOR PS1
You can practically do anything that you see in a real baseball game.
I also like the pitching meter which is so easy to learn and how the controller vibrates when you are close to pitching a ball.
This is to all the people who want to try out this game: rent it first to see if the game is good then buy it right away if you do like it.
~Peace Out~
